I would try and trade Anthony Fasano to the Dolphins for a day 1 pick.

I like that idea considering the Dolphins also have 2 second round picks
as well.Throw in Reeves :D just to sweeten the deal.

I would rather see a line of Ratliff Ferg Canty then any other combination and look to move Spears or Bowen.

Spears actually would have some value esp as a 4-3 DT or strongside end.

I don't see the need to trade or cut Spears. Bring back Fergy and have him play starting NT with Tank as the backup. Move Ratliff to starting DE and make Spears the backup. It's pretty important to have depth on the D-Line and Spears would make a very good backup. The D-Line would be a lot stronger with this strategy if you ask me.

I still maintain that the "Hotel" needs to find another location. Not because of his performance, but because his undiscplined play cannot be tolerated any longer. At some point the coaching staff needs to get rid of these types of players who litter the roster.

Besides, I really think they can find a winner among McQuistan, Free and Maartens and my money is on Free, remember alot of people had him as a first rounder the year prior and had it not been for an injury he probably would have been.

Try and re-sign Reeves to a 2/3 year deal for around $3-$4 million. If he wants more, then let him go. Not even trying to re-sign him puts Dallas in a bind in the offseason. Here we can re-sign him and cut him possibly before the 2008 season starts if we actually get replacements at the #3 and #4 spot (N. Jones needs to be cut as well).

No way we cut him and commit to get a corner in the first round...or free agency. We can easily do better.

11 false starts all season for a man that is partially deaf and goes up against a teams best pass rusher every week is not undisciplined. The man is a great LT and I am worried next season we may find out just how good he was.

Not sure we keep him becuase of his age and the contract that he will probably want, but it just erks me that some people say he is so undisciplined or not that good...been listening to the broadcasters too much. The guy is an all pro, they don't get much better.

I really think "great" is a slight over-exaggeration....Tony Romo made our entire o-line look better than it was in my opinion....but of course you are entitled to your own as well. Personally, I think Doug Free would make the transition seamless, but guess we'll have to wait and see how the off-season plays out.

Sure we *can* do better, but there's no guarantee and it's not as easy as it seems. If his price is right, I wouldn't object to keeping him around *until* we can find a player who is better than him.

That's really the problem there, as bad as Reeves may seem the other CB's behind him are much worse. So if we can keep him around and draft a CB, I'd rather do that since I think it's playing the percentages better. If the drafted CB works out, then we can cut Reeves. If not, I'd rather have Reeves around especially since Newman turns 30 and Henry turns 31. If they get injured, I'd rather have Reeves at CB than a shaky rookie.

He'll have to get his price tag down. He'll probably have to get down in the $800K a year range unless the salary cap goes through the roof and causes a bump in the salaries.

I'd rather wait until Free is really ready. If they re-sign Flo to a cap friendly deal, they would cut him as soon as Free is ready since he would still be much cheaper. It's a much safer route to go.

I like the plan Hostile has, but the chances of all that happening are slim unfortunately.

The time is right to jet the aging Flo

His illegal procedure basically ruined our last drive. Thats what he does game after game. Time to move on

Give me the moves you would make this offseason...

1) It looks like we are going to lose Garrett and Sparano. I would replace both with Cam Cameron and Hudson Houck.

2) Resign Barber, Canty and Davis

3) Do not bring back Julius Jones, Terry Glenn, Jason Ferguson, Flozell Adams, Jacques Reeves or Ken Hamlin.

4) Move Anthony Henry to FS. Lost speed makes this a good move.

5) Let Doug Free battle McQuistan for the LT position. Free was drafted to replace Flo and now is the time.

6) Use the money saved from letting some our guys go to resign Newman, Ware to LONG term deals. Resign Owens to a 2 yr. extension.

FREE AGENTS

Sign Bryant Johnson (Arizona) to play opposite of Owens. You won't have to break the bank to sign a really good hidden talent.

Sign Drayton Florence (San Diego) to play opposite of Newman or nickle CB.

DRAFT

1A - Antoine Cason - CB - Arizona

Antoine would battle Florence to start with the loser playing nickle. Cason would be looking to start by year 2.

1B - James Henry - WR - Indiana

I love this kids talent. Reminds me of Plaxico. He would battle Crayton for the 3rd WR' position in the 1st year but would start in the future. Possibly to replace Owens.

2 - Chris Johnson - RB - ECU

I think this guy is going to end up being one of the better backs in the draft.
Great back to pair with Barber.

:lmao2: Homie you are crazy? do not sign Hamlin , but get bryan johnson from AZ? are you on drugs..lol Also you wanna get Florence man u are on some serious medication. have you seen the guy play in SD and get smoked..No thanks.

of course, that assumes that we can sign Flo to a cap friendly deal. and I don't think that is terribly realistic.

Yup....the market for quality LT's is a pretty competitve one and I wouldn't be shocked to see Flo command somewhere around 4years/28million.

Ok guys. I've been giving it some thought now that my emotions have cooled from the loss. Here's what I do if I'm Jerry Jones:

Unrestrictied Free Agents: Looking at this list the only one we need to absolutely keep is Ken Hamlin. Finally, the team has found their replacement for Darren Woodson. Not saying they're on the same level but man this guy hits, covers and catches balls. This is a must-sign for the team. Keith Davis will test the market and if he's offered starting safety money he'll go for it. I wouldn't break the bank to keep this guy considering we have guys like Courtney Brown and prior to his injury Deion Anderson that are good special teams guys. Same with Jaqueves Reeves, if he's offered starting money don't match, maybe even don't match if he's not offered starting money. You'll understand why later in my post. Julius Jones....cya! Flozell Adams should be gone. Face it, the guy played flat footed towards the end of the season and he's just looking to me like Larry Allen was when his contract was up, you might get one more good year out of him or you pay him and his body breaks down. I think Dallas should see if big Pat or Free can replace him. If not you can always test Columbo over there and put one of those guys at RT.

Restricted Free Agents: Canty and Barber, we need both of them. Canty is playing like the first rounder he was projected to be prior to his knee injury and getting an eye to match Stewart Scott. Barber is a punishing back and with a good pickup in the draft to spell him I think he'll have nice stats next season.

Veteran Players that could go: Terry Glenn: May retire on his own, but if not I think we need to let him go. Jason Fergusson: I'd go two ways with this guy, either release or look to trade him to a team like the Dolphins or let him start and put Ratliff back at end and trade Spears. Honestly when he's not celebrating someone else's sack what does Spears do for the team? I think Ratliff and Hatcher would make a nice rotation. Greg Ellis: instead of listening to him play drama queen for another season trade him for draft picks and give Spencer the start. He was developing nicely before Ellis came back. Lastly, Bobby the Carp. Complete waste of a draft pick. Trade him to the coach that drafted him for picks.

Free Agency: Drayton Florence. He's only 27 and has played well enough to keep Cromartie out of the starting lineup until he developed. Won't command Samuel/Trufant money and with the cap room we can save with trading or releasing guys this would be a good move.

Coaching: Pay Garrett! This guy will be our next head coach as long as Jerry doesn't let him slip away and I think it's obvious that he wants to be the Cowboys head coach since he turned down the Ravens.

Draft: WR/RB/CB/OL.....

I disagree with the assessment about Spears. He's a solid 3-4 DE. He does his job ... which is to eat OL-men. He's good at containing them and letting the LB's do the clean up.

His forte was never pass rushing.

He's a solid, and valuable player on the DL.

You wouldn't rather have Ratliff at end?

In a 3-4 defense the NT is the anchor. The way Ratliff is dominating inside. No.

Alright guys, let's say then Spears stays. If we trade/release Carp, Fergusson, Glenn and Ellis how much cap space would we gain? Surely enough to sign Barber, Hamlin, Canty and someone like Florence right? And still be well below the cap?

Until we know for sure what the cap in 08 will be this is hard to say. The owners meet March 30th through April 3rd to iron out these things.

I think we have enough money to do that right now, but I'm so far away from being an expert on that stuff that even I don't give my thoughts on the cap much credence.

Guys like Carp, Fergusson, Glenn and possibly Ellis to me are just sensible business moves. Ellis needs to stop complaining every offseason. Jerry gave him an insurance clause last year...what more does he want?
