If you think Wade is the overall problem here, your mistaken. This team needs a serious talent upgrade to beat the ELITE teams in the NFL.
What ELITE teams? Flash in the pan teams like New Orleans and Minnesota who might get lucky to replicate their success next year? This is a league of "pretty good". If your talent is at that level, you can win. That's the whole point of the cap and of parity to begin with.
Sorry, but the "we don't have the talent" rationale is a cop-out.
The coaching on this team is an issue. Nobody's talent is ELITE. But if you look at most of the teams in playoff contention, what you do see that is ELITE are the staffs in charge of those teams.
The "pretty good" who are mistaken for ELITE (Indianapolis, Philadelphia, New England) all have excellent coaching staffs with well-developed organizational philosophies in place. Do we? No.
We have probably 3 guys going to the pro bowl, the chargers have 3 alone on offense..Rivers, Gates, and Jackson.
So what happened with that 12 Pro Bowler team in 2007?
Wade is only part of the problem, but our talent is being exposed as average in the latest December meltdown.
So the talent was good enough for eight wins prior to December but suddenly isn't any longer?
Strong coaches provide that extra edge in crunch time. This is like the two minute warning. Who cares if your previous 58 minutes was a struggle? You want the finish. Banking hopes that we'll suddenly morph into the Cardinals of last year is a fruitless endeavor. Wade Phillips isn't equipped to pick the team up, dust them off and march them back out again. If we do an Arizona, it will have to come from the players themselves.
