It took Coach Parcells revamping the scouting department and reinstalling order to something that Jones took great pains to rip apart after Jimmy Johnson left. I give a lot of credit to Parcells for simply ridding the organization of Larry Lacewell and establishing some semblance of rational thought in the draft room. Before that, it was comical.
Talent evaluation isn't simply being around to "listen" to his scouts as he finally started doing more consistently. It is no different than his ability to listen to his geologists about where to best drill for oil. Every now and again, he can guess and hit a gusher. That doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about on a technical level.
As much as Jones fashions himself as being a talent evaluator/poobah ala Al Davis, he simply isn't.
