How is this team any worse? Who have they lost? Carter and harris. Watch out.

Right now they've lost

Harris - ST ace w/ upside as WR
Carter - Solid LB w/ upside
Parnell - Good backup RT/LT w/ upside as a starter
Durant - Solid LB - even if it's just 1/2 the year
if they lose Murray too - Solid RB who fits with what Dallas does

These are all holes that now have to be filled as the roster currently doesn't have those just waiting in the wings. Plus, majority are players that still had upside, not just aging vets.

I'm not trying to say Dallas should have matched any of those deals the players got...but to think this team isn't CURRENTLY worse isn't smart money. Now, hopefully once all the smoke clears during FA, they will have plugged some of those holes back up. If not, relying on the draft to fill all those holes, on top of a non-existent pass rush is scary and a huge roll of the dice, when there is only bout a 2 year window with Romo.

No it's not. You build your team through the draft and then fill in with smart free agent spending. Not going crazy and signing average players to big contracts or on the downside of their career.

Bingo, how many big contracts have the Packers so far? Wonder if their msg board is in full meltdown mode

I know it feels like every team is getting better and we are standing in the mud, but it's only two days in to free agency. There is still the draft and the second free agent period after the draft to fill whatever holes are left.

The key is the draft. The Eagles "won" free agency in 2011. Many thought the Buccs have won with their signings last few years. Neither did anything. I mean who is out there that you really wanted? Suh was not going to be able to sign with our cap situation.

We already made some good moves. Dez will be here next year. Beasley and Free are locked up. We got rid of these inconsistent, injury prone guys in Durant and Carter.

Flashy moves in free agency does not equate being successful.

and Melton, McClain, Spencer, Selvie and Moore are half way out the door.

Durant is 30 and has missed 16 games the last 2 years.
Carter quit twice on his team last year and fell off this year. How many years are we going to keep hearing about Carter and his upside? He never put it together.

Free >> Parnell. You seriously wanted to keep Parnell for that price tag?

Harris went downhill last year as a returner. Upside as a WR? How do you know this?

That's all well and good, but at the moment there is no one to replace any of these players.

Melton and Spencer are very meh. Spencer is old. Melton had impact in exactly 2 games last year.

Moore is JAG. You can find a guy like that off the street.

True, but most of those guys have hit their ceilings. It those that haven't, that we are losing that hurts the most.

No, I wouldn't have matched any of those deals...I thought I put that in my post?

It's part of winning, your guys get picked off by other teams - but they were all solid contributors on last years team.

No matter what does or does not happen with Demarco Murray or Greg Hardy, the offseason is not officially a failure.

The draft matters a lot more than VFA is going to matter. And there are going to be players available over the course of the next two weeks who are still as good or better than other players we had on our roster last season.

We'll do what we do now: plug every major hole in the second and third weeks of free agency, and draft the best players on our board to add depth across the board to the team. Then we'll throw tons of UDCFA roster spots at the areas we feel uncomfortable with after it's all said and done. And we'll still be a good team that's doing things the right way and developing players through coaching.

None of those guys except McClain were supposed to be back so who cares.

Melton was a starting DT, Spencer was a starting SDE, RoMcClain was the starting MLB and Moore was the starting CB at the end of the year. They all have to be replaced and we only have 6 draft picks. They are all well above replacement level.

Sign Hardy SDE 5 years 55m/25 guaranteed
Rd 1 (27) Gurley RB Georgia
Rd 2 (60) Stephone Anthony LB Clemson
RD 3 (91) Josh Shaw CB/FS USC or Grady Jarrett DT Clemson

This and using the rest of FA to bring in some cheaper veterans for holes would equate to a very good offseason in my book. I don't think losing Murray + anyone else we have lost is a huge deal, but not getting, or at least strongly bidding on, Hardy would be pretty frustrating for me.

Melton? He started 3 games. Marinelli wanted to deactivate him on game days. Spencer had 0 starts-I liked what he did late but they can do better. Ro had 12 and I want to keep him. Cowboys do too. Moore started out of necessity. Doesn't appear they want him back. Scandrick and Carr were the true starters. They probably need to bring in an upgrade for Claiborne.

I disagree. he won't pay Dez in the long run either.

I have a funny feeling that next year will be Dez's last year in a Cowboys jersey. I think we will franchise him one more time and then let him hit the market/ trade him.

I think MCClain returns. We are also getting Lee back. Signed Keith Rivers too. Spencer will be replaced by a FA. We might draft Melton's replacement. I think we add a vet corner or draft someone early plus hope Mo figures something out.

We also have 7 draft picks, not 6.

Hard for me to include Lee in our plans.
