If he does get hot, then Jerry won't want to disrupt team chemistry by bringing Dak back in. It's the same thing that happened to Romo when he lost his job to Dak. Coop would have to win all the games except maybe one loss. He would need 350+ yards passing average and multiple TDs per game with the offense averaging 30+ points. It can be done but is low probability.

But, yea...even then Jerry probably won't want to sit the 40 million dollar man. Lord knows he's already lost enough money on other non-performing players who don't live up to the worth of their contract.

I will admit I was fine with Dak remaining in the starting role back in 2016 - the team and Dak were playing excellent without Romo. But you are right, the last quarter of the season he had dropped off significantly. Letting Romo return probably would have yielded far better results.

The difference in this case was Romo didn't play scared even after coming back from injuries. Dak seems terrified.

Ok, lets play alternate reality. If Rush goes 6-1 in Dak's absence, I don't think Dak sees the field again. Aikman didn't. Romo didn't.

But the chances of this happening are so small, you'd need an Infinite Improbability Drive in order to find that infinitesimal chance to be a reality.

Expecting Rush to get hot is fool's errand, Rush just needs to be mistake free and not generate negative plays when asked to pass.
