I can’t think of a less inspiring choice to be the next HC than Scottenheimer.

Does it change my “fandom?” No. I was a fan before JJ got here and Lord willing, I will be long after he is gone.

This hire would in fact— change nothing. It would merely galvanize the cynicism, disdain, and frustration I have for this front office— and specifically Jerry Jones.

I am counting down the days until he sells the team or retires.

It won’t change my viewing the games or browsing this site but I will head into the new season waiting for the train wreck to occur, I do love a good comedy.

I would not like it.
But I am a Cowboys Fan...not an individual player or coach.

At this time I think there is only one coach that if hired as HC...I actually could walk away.

But that has nothing to do with football.

Your fanhood and passion are really commendable, man. But this sounds more like a Ford truck commercial than a fan tribute.

Because you allow Jerry to operate without repercussions.

If you don't like what Jerry does your "bandwagon" according to you, while you willfully accept the trash that Jerry continues to feed you because you "bleed navy and royal blue".

Unfortunately, the majority of the fanbase thinks like you. So, the fanbase will continue to get what they get. Jerry appreciates your "diehard" status though.
ok lets get logical and move away from fluff emotion. im just being honest with my fandom. is a true friend (fan) someone who only shows up to parties or when its going good but doesnt show up to the hospital when you are really sick? cowboys org is really sick. i agree. but ill be dammned if jerry controls the levers on my passion for the star. i can be critical of jerry and also be a diehard. we live in a world of nuance and grey not just black and white.
what repercussions should jerry get from fans? fans get enough crap from most of the other fans from the other nfl teams (which is understandable and part of the gig as a cowboys fan) and to also have negative energy come from within cowboy nation? why contribute to the negative energy toward fans? we should be building up rather than tearing down our own. id like to see more of that critical energy put on the media in dallas who is scared of jerry and doesnt tell it like it is instead of being spent on attacking fans. sure great lets create a whole movement of fans who dont spend on the star anymore, dont watch anymore games, dont go to the stadium and dont give jerry more money. people who arent diehards (season ticket holders) will still either show up and give money or sell their ticket to to the other fans. im very surprised that you think i have that much power with jerry.

It's all good. Dieharders are OK. But fans can be discerning and also watch what Jerruh does, not what he says.

Schottenherimer seems to somehow not only be in the mix, but the betting favorite to be the next head coach.

The guy they didn't have enough faith in to be anything more than an assistant OC to McCarthy.

The guy that if he left Dallas right now would not get any attention at all for an OC job and would probably get demoted to a position coach somewhere IF somebody wanted him.

I can't think of a more "we don't care at all" hire than Schottenheimer. This is basically just a tiny step above Jerry naming Stephen the HC.
A head coach no one else would hire and a GM no one else would hire. It tracks.

No. I can compartmentalize.

The Cowboys and my fandom of the team existed well before JJ bought it, and my fandom can exist distinct from his mismanagement of it.

JJ is not and will never be the Cowboys and its winning tradition (he will only ever be a part of it, and a small one at that) despite what he thinks or his ownership of the team.

Who will run the same Tired, Stagnant offense we witnessed this past year . U can't make this crap up .
Jerry is paying a QB 60 million a year he wants Dak friendly, basically the same O for 9 years. The KM BS type talk fit that requirement. IMO they should be looking at a D type HC but if they go with either of the 2 offensive guys mentioned the Dak Stan’s will be happy and have another coach to blame for Daks shortcomings

Honestly I don't know. Are you a fan if you want your team to fail due to the owners incompetence and stubbornness?
I’m about convinced that the only thing that has a remote shot of turning this around is hitting bottom first.

I really don’t know if that makes me ‘not a fan’ or not. Never been in this spot, but I didn’t put myself there. I’m sure I’ll be accused of that in the coming months/years…and I’m not going to openly root against them, but I think we all know that this doesn’t get better without a major FO philosophy change. How else is that supposed to happen other than total failure? The good news is they have that part under control.

I just want it to be about football again. Is that really asking too much out of a football team?

My God some of these answers? Just keep letting this clown crap all over his players, a once proud organization and the fans. Then still pretend that every September brings hope?! You had guys like Johnson and Glenn available and not even an interview? Be nice to have an owner that actually cares but that’s not the case here.

Johnson ruled himself out of the Dallas job a couple months ago when he said he wanted a GM that was actively committed to making significant improvements and fixing things on a team.

That basically says it all. Every year Jerry talks a good game on how he would do anything to win? Then proceeds to do nothing!

On X Cowboys' Schottenheimer Interview Sparks Fan Outrage

The Dallas Cowboys have officially interviewed Brian Schottenheimer with 2nd interview planned for their head coaching vacancy, a move that has not been well-received by the fanbase. According to NFL com and SI, this interview has led to widespread frustration and debate. Critics, as reported by BVM Sports and Pro Football Network, argue that this choice reflects a lack of ambition or direction from the Cowboys' management, with some fans expressing their disillusionment to the extent of contemplating withdrawing their support. The backlash underscores a broader sentiment that the team might not be serious about pursuing championship success, as echoed by fan reactions across various platforms.

Fandom? No. I guess I'll always be a suffering Cowboys fan. But it would probably decrease my level of investment even more. I think I watched 3 games this past season. I just accept the fact that this team is never winning another Super Bowl and choose to not invest a ton of time watching them.

His Daddy was boring as all get out but he could win... the big game escaped him so being a champion he wasn't. Now the son wants a crack at it. Who is to say he won't be good at it? With the right players and coaching staff he could be. But then my wife woke me up to a fresh blueberry muffin and I forgot the rest of it.

I’m not going to lie part of me wants to see them fail after not addressing the roster last year and then pulling this stuff. I won’t cheer for a different team but it is hard to want these guys to succeed

that era (Landry, Dorsett, Staubach et al) was a great time to be a fan, as you know. A top flight GM, great coach, scouting and just as important, an owner (Clint Murchison, Jr.) who kept his distance from team operations, football matters and media interaction. What a concept!!
