Bye, bye America's Team
Chose a loser, did the Boozer
If you know what I mean
And good ol fans threw their hands to the sky
And said this'll be the day I say good bye
This'll be the day I say good bye

If they really choose Schottenheimer today as is being reported, this will be the day we know that winning really doesnt matter to ownership. Control and profits are all that matter to them. This'll be the day I say goodbye

this team is driving me into bad health beyond repair. Forget 28 more years for me sir, I may not be alive by week 5 next season. But I ain't leaving here til that day comes
I can’t let them kill me…..either I have to join another team or just take a step back and I’ve just chosen to be less of a fan of this team. I can’t spend countless hours talking about this team over and over again when the results are the same. Not even the results but the execution.

Did you have faith that Jimmy Johnson was going to have success in Dallas?

See, that's where I learned my humility on head coaches.

Not only was I so very very confident that Buddy Ryan was right that college coaches in the NFL can never work... I was still very very confident of that 12 months in... for obvious reasons.

We don't know what we don't know.

And. Head coaches aren't the difference anyways. Talent is.

I'm not going away. I'm persuaded that no 80+ year-old owner is going to set himself up for disaster, and to the contrary, he's going to ultimately make the decision that is in his own best interests... and hiring a guy who isn't going to create marketing buzz, by the way, does nothing to substantiate the claim that Jerry's all about money. "Well, but it does... he's that adamant not to pay anyone top dollar." I disagree. He's persuaded (as I am) that the head coach isn't the tipping point hire. You need any of the pool of HC candidates who have the capacity to take a team to a Super Bowl... I mean, look at Cincinnati... you can try to sell me that Zac Taylor was critical to their getting to a Super Bowl, but you're going to fall short. He's good enough.
It’s the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s.

30 year fan here, this year I began to stop watching some games. I’ll always follow them and see what’s going on but if Brian is hired and things go sour; I’m not ruining Sundays for myself.

If Shottenheimer is named the head coach of the Cowboys, I am out.

I know no one cares if I am in or out, but after 65 years of being a Cowboys fan, I believe it is telling that a lifelong fan will call it quits with his team. I glommed on to the Cowboys when they were competing with the Dallas Texans. I especially imprinted on No. 17, Dandy Don Meredith. He was and remains my favorite player of all time. That is not meant to say that he was the best player, even at his position, it was his humanity, cool, and humor. Who is the best player at his position on the Cowboys all the time? Hands down, Troy Aikman. I have seen every QB, up close and personal. No one threw the ball with such precision. When he targeted Irwin, the ball was placed right between the 8s. His long ball was also a thing of beauty. He also had fire in his belly and never backed down. Many folks would say Roger. As much as Roger was a great representative of the organization, his passing abilities were nowhere close to Aikman's. I remember going to many games and watching Staubach's first few passes. If his down and outs to Pearson sailed well above his head, as it often did, then we were in for a long day. And it happened a lot. Roger was a great leader and athlete. His Roger Dogger abilities were impressive. But if you had to pick one Cowboys' QB, it has to be Troy.

But I regress. I was at the last Super Bowl that Dallas played in. It was against Pittsburgh in Tempe. Cowboys won. Because of Cowher, the game was closer than it should have been. Since then we have endured 30 years of ineptitude. I don't need to discuss this, we all know the reasons why.

This leads to my declaration. If Shottenheimer is named head coach I am out. If this is Jerry's move it says that he does not care about winning. I have suspected that for a long time. This would be my final straw.

About 5 years ago I stopped buying anything Cowboys and I refused to go to a game either at Jerry World or on the road. I was done giving the Jones family any of my hard-earned money. I have advised other Cowboys fans to do the same thing. Jerry only cares about two things; Jerry and money. He is a narcissist and a money grubber of the worst kind.

Shottenheimer is a person who got his job because of his father. He was so negatively regarded that McCarthy decided he would call plays instead of leaving that to his offensive coordinator. Shottenheimer has shown nothing to indicate that he is any more than a position coach. Making him the HC is expedient for Jerry. Shotty will not rock the boat, will let Jerry interfere in all decisions and most importantly won't cost Jerry money. My guess is that he would take less money than Big Mike. That will make Jerry a very happy guy.

The only thing wrong with this equation is that the team will not improve, the Cowboys will continue their mediocrity and the fan base, including me, will continue to be frustrated.

I have seen this movie before. It has repeated for 30 years. It is the same BS every year. I always joke about the Cowboys always winning the Super Bowl twice a year. Once, right after the draft and the other in training camp. In those two moments, Jerry is waxing his complete bull **** and we the fans somehow buy into it even as our minds know better. Jerry is the ultimate P.T. Barnum and I have been the ultimate sucker for now going on 3 decades. That will end immediately after the coronation of the next Head Coach Flunky. Fool me 30 times shame on me.

If this is the eventuality, I will watch the NFL with dispassion. I will not care who wins or who loses. The league has become a shadow of its former self. The league declared itself as "entertainment" to obtain a waiver from anti-trust regulation and with that declaration the honesty of the league came into serious question. Now that the league endorsed gambling and is profiting from the same, the credibility of the outcome of games, especially the big ones is seriously in question, at least with me. (See the last three SBs. In each, the team that won, was referee aided in their winning drive, not just once, but several times for infractions of the rules that no one else saw.

So it is all up to Jerry. Name Shotty as the next head coach and I am out of here. So, Jerry what is it going to be?
You’re in the majority, bro.

The “fans no matter what” group is becoming more the minority everyday.

I definitely took a step back and if they hire Shott, just tells me that it will be the same going forward. I can’t be focusing attention wasting every single Sunday on a team that don’t care and management just pays lip service selling the whole “this is the year….”
Nah, I will wait

I've been buying Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, and Baltimore Ravens gear with my sports dollars for about 15 years now. It's a matter of principle with me. I just refuse to give any money to the evil Jones empire. I will always be a Cowboys fan, but never a Jones fan. Anyone who buys Cowboys stuff after Jerry giving the fanbase the finger for three decades is like the battered wife who keeps reconciling with her domestic abuse husband. I'm hoping for the worst possible scenario because the fan base needs smelling salts. I hope it is Shottenheimer and I hope out our home games are 75% opposing fans.

I understand your grievance, but there is nothing this team can do to get me out. They can hire my neighbor Herb (who is an orthodontist that I refuse to go to) for the job and I’ll still be a fan.
I'm in the same boat, It sucks sometimes being a fan!

I think he wants to win, he’s just too proud to admit he has no idea how to win. GM by Jones Family and Friends Committee just doesn’t work.
You think Jerry wants to win after:
  1. Sun blinds players at home games and we lose and he refuses to close the curtains
  2. Made zero offseason moves while Eagles spent $300 million and are in the NFC Championship game
  3. Jerry is the only constant the past 30 seasons and we have a 30 year drought of playing in the NFC Championship game
  4. Refuses to cede power even though Washington went from a 4-win team to playing in the NFC Championship game in one season
  5. Philly fans continue to tell Jerry they love him and hope he lives to be 100
  6. Let Garrett learn on the job for ten years as the head coach
And you think Jerry wants to win?

Of course he wants to win.

But as my wife says, men and their egos. Some dudes will see it burning all around them and still not realize they are the cause.

Especially if you’re surrounded by a bunch of yes men, INCLUDING the Head Coach.

Mavericks have been awful since 2011 until Nico/Kidd came on board and saved the team. A good 12 year trash fest. They good now...just saying...they were crap for most of that 15 years which conflicts with your overall post...but thats the games this board plays.

Same crap...werent the Dallas Stars strapped over bad contracts to two veterans the past few years?

Always something to ruin everything and make everything overly complicated...sad.

Dallas Cowboys...multi-billion dollar org cant figure out anything after owning the business for 38 years...

none of it makes sense

I will still be here, always. Cowboys for life.
I’ve been a fan through 3 owners, 9 head coaches, and at least 35 game starting QBs.
I have lost a great deal of hope for a good team, more this year than ever because of what Jerry did and did not do to the roster for 2024 and his handing of this off season so far. He looks like an owner/GM who has “lost it,” but doesn’t know he’s lost it. The parallel between the current operation of Jerry Jones and the last years of Al Davis is uncanny and scary.

But we have a team of players who will run out there and give it their all in their short football careers, doing what most of us have dreamed of doing ourselves. When they do, I’ll be watching and cheering and hoping, celebrating when they win and lamenting every loss. That’s just the way it is, regardless of what I like or dislike about the owner/gm, the coaches, the players, or my fellow fans.

Go Cowboys! :starspin:

Im not saying "Give him a chance" but lets state the obvious...does it matter who the HC is if the clown is still pulling the strings? He turned two SB winning HC's into losers...the next HC's name could be Bob from Pokenstien and it wouldn't matter...Is the GM still Jerry, well it will be more of the same except now its Bob's fault...
