We should have at least one extra position since Stanback can be the third qb.
Excellent point.

Since there's a possibility both Glenn(age and injuries) and TO(if he turns out to not be worth the trouble this year) could be gone next year I don't see Crayton being moved.

I do see Crayton asking for more than he may be worth because he knows that TO and Glenn with probably be gone after this season, and he may be the only vet wideout on this team. I thought back when we signed Crayton to a one year deal that it should have been a three-year or two-year deal.

Crayton is not indispensable. No one is when you really get down to it. Do you think if TO acted badly enough that they would cut him even one day after a 3 million dollar roster bonus? I know they would.

But Crayton is far down the line. I guess some are considering that both Hurd and Miles would play so well that they would cut Crayton to make room for them. Or that they would play so well we would keep 6 wrs as well as 2 kickers and 3 QBs.

What if Moore looks so good you can't hide him on the PS?

Do you really think both Hurd and Miles will play so well that they would cut Crayton?

They will have a very hard time keeping two kickers. Who are they going to cut? One or two of the OL? A LB? Another CB above the ones they will have to cut already? Which S do they cut?

They could keep 6 WRs but I think that is going to be a hard call.

gramatica isn't so great outside 45 anymore either.

That's what I said, use Gramatica from 45 in, Folk on the longer FGs and kickoffs...

And if another rookie makes a splash, who is the odd man out?

Crayton?

Hurd?

If Stanback or Miles return kicks, Crayton's importance diminishes.

I think Crayton stays and Hurd hits the road if stanback and Miles stay on.

I think Stanback will probably be the #4 considering he has experience as a WR.

Owens
Glenn
Crayton
Stanback (KR/PR)
Hurd
Rector

So to me, Miles is the odd man out.

I think Stanbach winds up on injured reserve. There he can get healthy and we can stash him away. By next year Who knows what's going to happen with TO, Glenn and Crayton. Hurd and Miles Can get some valuable practice and game time.

If anyone is gone is Jamaica Rector...if he isnt already. I cant remember if we released him or if he's on PC.

Anyway next year I think we have TO, Glenn, Crayton, Hurd, Austin, Stanback. 6 WR's isnt uncommon.

Six WRs is not a luxury the Cowboys have. With two top-tier WRs such as the starters, the Cowboys wouldn't be stock up behind 5 WRs at the most.

T.O. and Glenn are unntouchables.
Stanback intrigues Jerra and Austin Miles is more valuable than Crayton because the young man can be a good returner.
I think it will come down to Crayton or Hurd

Forget about Rector.

No way does Hurd make it over Miles. On measureables alone I'd take Miles over Hurd. To me the best case scenario is to keep six and have Rector on the PS.

We can either opt to keep 6 WRs or Wade Phillips/Jason Garrett gamble just like Sean Payton did last year.

When 7th rounder Colston was so so impressive in preseason, Payton traded one of their starting 2 WRs to Eagles for a 3rd rounder(?). No way we trade TO or Glenn, but could Crayton be vulnerable in the last year of his contract and we probably won't re-sign cause he'll want big bucks? He's a #3WR with great hands but lacks speed whose lost his job on ST to Austin & maybe even Stanbach. If Austin/Hurd & Stanbach/Crayton all look very impressive, we can showcase Crayton & find out if we can get a 3rd/4th rounder for him.

Don't get me wrong. I love Crayton's play but trading him this year allows us to get something of value for him rather then just lose him to free agency at end of season. Again this is only an option if Austin/Hurd in particular & even Stanbach to an extent are very impressive.

I had no idea Crayton was in FA mode next season. Bet there are plenty of teams out there wanting a Crayton.
Payton, are you listening?

You are such a kidder!!!!!

Sam Hurd was the only one to catch a pass in the regular season, and Both Hurd and Rector showed more in the preseason, so why is this so laughable?

If that was the case then, why was Austin on the 53 man roster all of last season while Rector was on the practice squad for most of the season?

And everytime you hear Jerruh talk about our young receivers he mentions Austin and Hurd, and never Rector. It doesnt matter what you think. It matters what the coaching staff and Jerry think. And it is quite obvious they disagree with you.

How about having two kickers on an NFL team sucks; we should keep that extra spot for something more important. The staff needs to pick Grammatica or Folk, hopefully he can stand the pressure of being kicked off a team and make some kicks... If he can stand that pressure, he should be able to make a field goal during a game.

than you have to go short elsewhere...

so the next question is where do you think we will go short?

I've been pondering this question as well with the possibility of keeping 6 WR and the thought of 2 kickers. One area to save a roster spot could be TE. The Boy's have Witten and Fasano. If the base offense is a 1 TE set with a FB, then Fasano would back up Witten. An extra O-lineman could be used for two TE sets in the running game or you could use both in two TE sets if needed. Another option would be a FB/TE (H-Back) type of player to back up two positions - covering the 5th RB and 3rd TE positions (Anderson?). Another option is to use Hoyte as back up FB and back up ILB to cover two positions.
