If Stanback steps in and he displays any competent return skills, he will replace Newman and Crayton.

Why?

Because in today's NFL, coaches do not put their offensive or defensive starters in unnecessary situations and risk injury.

First off I highlighted Crayton's name. Secondly if I had my druthers I wouldn't want T-New to be the number 1 "Jacked Up" play of the year again.

The most amazing thing to me is that if any of these guys get cut from the team, they will likely get picked up elsewhere. Isn't it nice to have immense depth, where the guys we cut can be another team's treasure?

Long gone are the days of the Stepfret Williams, Randal Williams, and Wayne McGarity. These decisions will be difficult. Those prior decisions were relatively easy, even though some of those guys lasted on the roster longer than they should have.

At 1:12 of the video they start talking about how he fumbled the last time he tried to return a punt.

If one punt return is all the evidence you have, don't bring it.

How many Cowboys have returned a punt for a TD in the last few seasons?

Newman has muffed a punt.

Newman is an excellent punt returner.

We haven't had this kind of player returning kicks since Sanders.

The problem is we would be risking our #1 CB and we really don't have the depth at CB to risk it.

That doesn't make any sense.

Do youa..... speaka.... any English...

Remember the helmet to helmet collision Newman had?

Jacked Up!

Returners are at high risk of inury every time, it comes with the position.

Remember when Sehorn wanted to return kicks? Practically ended his career.

Waitasec. Hold up.

Before, during and after the draft, you have said (paraphrasing) that we should have drafted a cornerback because Henry and Glenn were no good. You've even provided 'evidence' in the form of clips to re-enforce your point.

Now, you want to use Newman as the primary punt returner EVEN though he doesn't have a quality #2 or nickel back in YOUR opinion to substitute for him IF he were to go down with an injury?

Eduncan, you're an American original. :insane:

I love Newman's potential returning punts, but he's very hit or miss, he'll make some nice ones, but then he will look rather ordinary, and then there's the risk of him being injured

I love how Ed just dips out of conversation when he is backed into a corner ;)

Do you see us having six receivers activated for each game or seeing one or more being moved to the practice squad?

I only see 4 being activated on game-day, you can have 53 players on your roster, w/ only 49 being taken to games, the rest are left at home, you don't have to put them on the PS or anything, just inactivate them for that particular game(s)

Doesn't matter to me how many have returned one for a TD. Not even a little bit. I love the punt return as much as the next guy, but I'd prefer not to see Newman back there any more. too valuable.

he wasn't THAT bad.

He made some plays for us in the Anthony Wright-Clint Sterner (sp) Era.

No way Stanback gets this job. Newman has performed well as a punt returner. At one point, he was even leading the league [12.2 return avg] last year.

If the best you can bring is 'he'll get hurt...', then you have to remember something: This is football...not soccer.
