If the Cowboys lose to the Bengals

What game of the season do those team usually start doing that at? Teams can get in a lot of trouble if they obviously tank. You can say you are trying to test out what you have at quarterback, but then when you rest all the starters, and it isn't the last couple of games, you don't think it would cause an uproar?
Yes, there would be suspicion. However, if a team has practically no chance of making the playoffs how would it be proven they're taking rather than just seeing what they have in their backups? Without some kind of confession, it would be practically impossible to prove you're intentionally tanking.

Should they tank (lose out) and secure a higher draft pick for next year's draft?

I mean, if the Cowboys lose to the Bengals, they would be at 5 - 8 with only 4 games left in the season. A loss on Monday Night against the Bengals would pretty much eliminate our Cowboys from reaching the playoffs, so why not lose out and secure a much higher draft pick?

What say you?
No, there is no "pretty much eliminated". There is eliminated and not eliminated. Until the Cowboys are officially eliminated, they should not give up on the season.

It makes sense, but doesn't mean the players and coaches will tank. A lot of these guys don't have job security after this year so they'll do whatever they can to showcase their skills for their next job whether it's here or somewhere else.

There will never be any tanking in Big D because of multiple factors. Which I think is good. Losing is like a contagious disease that can linger. Would I be upset if this team finishes 5-12? No but it won’t be because they tanked.

Besides…This isn’t one of the 3-5 worst teams in the league. Maybe ranked somewhere between 18-25 which is definitely bottom half, maybe bottom third. But this is not a team that should or will tank on purpose.

HELL NO!!!

should have done that since 3-7. Those two wins didnt help.

Not tank in the literal sense though, but try out all kinds of stuff, play Lance etc...

Yes. Not tank on purpose. But play all the younger players as much as they can. Including Trey.
But we know Jerry is senile and will not do it.
Agreed. Play the younger players and if they play well enough that you sneak out a win or 2 then let's be honest, that's more valuable than picking a handful of spots lower. I'd rather have 3 or 4 young players show they can play at an NFL level for next season than have those same players play awful and you pick a little lower.

There is no such thing as tanking. It is a fan construct. Professional players and coaches have to prove themselves every week in order to sustain their careers. The team that ends the season with the worst record does so because they are the worst team, not because they were trying to be.

No one cares esp the Cowboys or the Bengals as both teams are going nowhere.
Enjoy watching a real QB in Burrows with his stud WR and chill brothers this season is a wash just like the last 28 years have been.

Too bad others can't or refuse to understand this.

So you are saying Cooper Rush is not a real QB?

Yes. I would tank like NY Giants are tanking. Put in your 3rd string QB and away you go. It gives Trey some real time action and it gives us a better draft slot.

I just don't see what motivation these guys have to tank...at least those in the locker room. McCarthy is fighting for his job, or to at least finish on a strong note to possibly get an interview with another team this offseason, same with the rest of the coaching staff. The guys set up for free agency want to get on the field as much as possible as it could effect their pay for next year. Yes they can get more snaps to guys down the depth chart, be quick to put a valuable starter on IR, etc. and they should be doing this, but no way is this team going to go the lose at all cost route. If there is one thing players truly dont care about it's draft position. If anything you put yourself in a player shoes and most guys probably want their team picking as close to the bottom of the round as possible. Every player selected, especially early in the draft is just the possibility of a veteran player losing their job. Winning probably doesnt carry quite the importance once a team is eliminated from playoff contention, but these guys certainly dont want to lose games, and more importantly dont want to put bad film out there for their next team or next coaching staff on this team.

Exactly. Fans don't care if their team loses out so they get a better pick, but no player is jeopardizing their career so the front office can get a better pick. If Jerry wanted to take (which he doesnt), he would immediately resign MM and start dumping players. MM could try out the younger guys without feel of losing his job. But MM isn't about to help the Cowboys get better next year, only to lose his job this year.

Yep. If Jerry truly wanted to tank MM would have a new contract tomorrow so McCarthy would be willing to take the instructions. He's not going to purposely sabotage his career and reputation to set up the next guy to win with his players.

You're probably right about Jerry not wanting to tank either. He likely wants to be as close to 500 as possible so he can sell the fans on how close they are and how a new coach can get them back to the playoffs.

If I ever feel like the Dallas Cowboys are deliberately trying to lose a game then I am done with them. I could never watch them again.

If any player is not trying to win then they are not competing and I don't want them on the team nor do I want a team that tolerates such players.

There isn't a coach worth a dime that deliberately tries to lose a game.

How can any other coach, player or even fan ever trust, follow, and respect someone who didn't try their best in the hopes of a potential advantage the next season. There should be no "next season" for them.

It's one thing for a terrible team to lose because they simply don't have the ability to defeat their opponent. At least they tried their best. I would prefer that to a better team that didn't try.

A team like that is attempting to cheat the system by cheating the fans.

There's really no way to do that. The players are going to try to win.

Teams absolutely tank. They'll just play third stringers in key positions and it takes care of itself without looking like tanking.
No starter is going to sit and lose incentive money.
