Should they tank (lose out) and secure a higher draft pick for next year's draft?

I mean, if the Cowboys lose to the Bengals, they would be at 5 - 8 with only 4 games left in the season. A loss on Monday Night against the Bengals would pretty much eliminate our Cowboys from reaching the playoffs, so why not lose out and secure a much higher draft pick?

What say you?
What? Tank?

Only losers talk about tanking.

Actually, I see the team getting stronger and finishing, possibly with just 2 more losses or less.
The defense is that good
By the time we play Philly and Washington, they may have clenched and be taking weeks off.
If McCarthy can have this team just halfway prepared to play football games, we may have an easy 5 games left.

Teams that are competing with the Commanders, Buccaneers, and Eagles for playoffs and/or seeding would appreciate the Cowboys playing to win. Tanking is for fans to talk about when all they have left to be excited about is the next draft. Pro football coaches will not tank, particularly if they’re not even signed for the season the improved draft picks would join the team. Why do fans of any team bring up this ignorant nonsense?
Agree.

playoff odds are against us. <1%

but we want a winning season. Like 2005.

Players don’t tank.

Their careers are on the line every snap and they won’t lose or put themselves at injury risk so the team can have a better chance to draft their replacement.

Plus they want to put themselves on film for future contracts.

Plus, the NFLPA would have a field day if the team benched Micah for a practice squad player.

You play to win, do you tank when you have a bad team and you are one and done if you get to the playoffs? The tank philosophy would have 1/3 or more of the teams trying to lose by the loser mentality you suggest. Anyone who ever played a sports plays to win period. I’m shocked you even suggested this. Let’s move up in the draft for the next Taco, Phat man, Tristen ……….

The team will never tank on purpose, but if we lose, I think some guys go on IR for sure.

I imagine the team’s focus and fight will diminish as they transition to getting ready for their tee times in January.

In that way, I think the “organic tank” will be in play. Other teams are gonna be jockeying for playoff spots, and will need the W more than us, so we probably lose those games and should we lose on MNF, I don’t think we will finish with more than 6 or 7 wins.

On the other hand, if the players fight and play hard and want to win— I am all for it. I think purposefully laying down is a weak-*** move and I support them if they want to take out their anger and frustration for this season on other teams lol

Let the draft sort itself out

Professional players and coaches have to prove themselves every week in order to sustain their careers.
How can that be true in today's game? Players & coaches are making mints & many are protected with guaranteed money. Secondly, the evaluators whether it to remain with the Cowboys or another team are going to look at the individual player, not the team outcome. Thirdly, every NFL team faces a point in the season where they know they aren't contenders & they make the decision to use the remainder of the season to evaluate and prepare for the following year. ie, they are gonna understand why some players may not have played their best because of what was going on around them.

So you question that coaches and players have to continually prove themselves then make the point that any given team, late in a poor season, begins to evaluate what they have for next season. Kinda answered your own question really.

What can a starter do if he's not starting? Put in enough backups and you likely won't win.
They sit starters all the time to avoid paying incentives, avoid risk injury, etc. Ask Tony D when he went to Denver.

Not saying organizations always do right by players but let's not act like the organization can't & doesn't make the decisions. Staffs & players just have to deal with it.

On the other hand, organizations have paid out incentives to players who didn't technically meet the requirements. There are ways to let players know the decisions weren't intended to harm them individually.

How so? My point being that starters & regular contributors aren't going to be impacted by these evaluations. Sure, the replacements are. That's the entire point.

Im just not an advocate of losing for a higher draft pick.

Theres no guarantee who we’d get. And the potential for a carryover into next season lingers . With a strong finish potentially brings a boost at least mentally versus continued losing.

Im just not sold losing in any fashion is good for a program. Even in meaningless games . I guess it might be different if I didn’t watch them all.
