Hardly,,, he was asked if, with a surplus of first-round talent in 2015, he'd consider trading away his 2016 first-rounder to acquire even more talent -- perhaps for a running back, or maybe further help on defense.

That was my take on it... Any position. Not just RB, but of course that's all the RB-focused see or hear.

The Cowboys organization has stated numerous times pre and post NFL draft that they are happy with the running back by commitee aproach and stable of backs within the organization, it's only those in the media that are "SPECULATING" to justify their own self importance that the cowboys are looking for a running back

Bro, both Stephen and Jerry have said so. Jerry went as far as to say that he would be interested in trading a first round pick next year. That is from Jerry Jones himself pal.

I have never heard or read Jerry or Stephen saying "We're looking for a running back." In fact, I've read multiple quotes from them saying that they're happy with the guys on the roster. There is even a thread here quoting Jerry saying the Dallas running game will be better than last year. The whole "he would be interested in trading a first round pick next year" thing is a perfect illustration of the out of context, hype-seeking game that the media plays. That sound byte has been blown SO out of proportion.

Well, since he can't outright talk about Peterson, I suppose you could use the vagueness of his comment to mean just anybody.

But two things come to mind here.

1. It is my belief the Jones boys were Hell bent on Peterson all along, and this is why they allowed Murray to walk. Else does this RunDMC and a cast of back-ups look like a plan? Regardless of Jerry's imitation of Kevin Bacon suggesting all is well, RunDMC looked like a desperation move.

2. Oh boy, we can get us a long snapper with that first round pick.

Jerry Jones said last week he'd consider trading a first round pick in 2016 for the right player.

http://www.foxsports.com/southwest/...-trading-cowboys-2016-first-round-pick-050815

If that's the quote, then it's being taken out of context as it pertains to this thread. All he was doing was answering a question, and simply NOT ruling out the possibility of such a trade, IF the right situation came up. Which is par for the course for Jerry as far as answering those types of questions. And he didn't even mention RB.

Add in the fact that he also said, point blank, that they feel their running game as a whole is better right now than it was last season. I'd say yea, the story line is media driven.

“Right now we’re looking at the guys that we have on our roster,’’ says COO Stephen Jones, talking to Cowboys season-ticket holders on a conference call. “(Johnson) is somebody that is on a short list of ours that we think could ultimately come in and do some good things for us if we asked him to, but I wouldn’t say it’s a priority right now.”

This article is about ten days old. What has changed since then?

Didn't they give him like 200k guaranteed? That hardly reeks of desperation to me.

I'd suggest the fact your RB who up until a few days before still had no emptied his locker, was going to sporting events with the QB and HC. Then suddenly took a job with your @1 competition in the division, 200K is not a lot of cheese to be sure you have a warm body.

Especially when the team that has the rights for the guy you played this scenario out for us maintaining they want way too much or will not trade the guy at all.

That seems like something is backfiring.

Where in there did they say for a rb....JJ has said time after time that the running game will be better this season....and he is excited about what DMC can do in this offense....

Then why are there so many comments in the press about the Jones boys looking to trade? And why are there so many threads about this issue?

If this RBBC is the answer, then why has the organization stated they are looking?

Why has this site blown up with RB threads and speculation?

I guess it could be the never ending quest to improve.

Or...

It could be the team made a mistake and misjudged their options.

I don't know the answer to any of your questions.

What I do know is that it's driving me crazy with all of this Running Back talk. The threads, the rumors, the utter paranoia over our running back situation is maddening. Of course some would argue that I already am crazy, but it is what it is. lol

We are fine at running back. We have plenty of options already on our roster that are capable of carrying the ball as many times as needed collectively.

We lost Demarco Murray and it's understandable that there are people and mediots that want to harp on that to a point, but it's gotten utterly ridiculous at this point.

We will be fine at the position people!

Didn't they give him like 200k guaranteed? That hardly reeks of desperation to me.

Someone gets it. I mean they're so desperate to land another RB that they completely completely ignored the position during the draft and FA (sans a low risk deal for DMC).

The sky is falling. The sky is falling. The Cowboys don't know what to do at RB (unless, of course they do).

The idea that "AP was the plan from the beginning" is a laugher, also. If it was THE plan it would have happened by now. Jerry would have ponied up the picks and held a presser with a Cheshire Cat's grin along with AP and his new jersey. Now if they land AP, at this point, the Cowboys will have played it perfectly because they already knocked this draft out of the park by being patient and letting it fall to them. AP is going to cost less at this point. Not more.

People seem to forget that Jerry said mid-season LAST YEAR that Randle could get 100 yards a game behind this line. That was an early shot across the bow at Murray and his reps. When Murray turned down the original deal that the Cowboys offered, they were already in "you can be replaced" mode. That's why they had no qualms about riding his *** into the dirt. He had one foot out the door before he even realized it.

The panic here and in the media about the RB position is getting laughable at this point.
