If the Running Back Issue Isn't a Problem

Well, since he can't outright talk about Peterson, I suppose you could use the vagueness of his comment to mean just anybody.

But two things come to mind here.

1. It is my belief the Jones boys were Hell bent on Peterson all along, and this is why they allowed Murray to walk. Else does this RunDMC and a cast of back-ups look like a plan? Regardless of Jerry's imitation of Kevin Bacon suggesting all is well, RunDMC looked like a desperation move.

2. Oh boy, we can get us a long snapper with that first round pick.

How the hell is DMC a "desperation move?" They got him for peanuts.

I think the RB situation can be summed up like this. They are fine with the four RBs they have at this point but they know there is a long way to go until week one. They also know there will be several RBs of interest available through trade or after they are cut. If the right situation comes along soon, they might make a move but they aren't going to trade a high pick or pay a RB big money at this point. If they don't like what they see from the current backs through mini camps and into training camp that will likely change. My personal opinion is that I'm 90% sure another RB will be added, that RB will be of starting quality, and will split time with Randle and McFadden.

Nate talked at length about Murray and AP on the radio right before Murray signed with Philly. His contention was that Murray made a mistake in hanging around and telling the team he wanted to remain a Cowboy. There is a waver the players sign at the end of the season which states they are healthy and do not need surgery. This is standard for every player on every team. Nate put a lot of stock in this document. His position was that Murray didn't race out and sign that and clean out his locker. Instead, Murray was going to games and being seen around town

This gave the impression Murray wasn't looking, which offered confidence in the Cowboys shopping for AP. They had time and the consolation prize was the guy who just hung up 1800 yards on the NFL.

This was NEVER about money.

Nate suggested in a subsequent radio program after Murray signed with P{hilly that AP was friends with Murray and went to him and asked outright if Murray would have a problem with AP becoming a Cowboy. But that conversation took place before Murray signed.

Nate went on to say Dallas was low balling Murray in hopes of bringing in AP.

Now I know this site is famous for eating its own family. So go ahead and tell me Nate doesn't know squadoushe.

But, Nate does have an inside with this team. And while there are a great number of fans who will dismiss Nate because he is contrary to their beliefs, I maintain because of his history as a player, and connections inside this organization, he knows a great deal about what he is saying.

Then why are there so many comments in the press about the Jones boys looking to trade? And why are there so many threads about this issue?

If this RBBC is the answer, then why has the organization stated they are looking?

Why has this site blown up with RB threads and speculation?

I guess it could be the never ending quest to improve.

Or...

It could be the team made a mistake and misjudged their options.

Or there could be a giant void between re-signing the overrated DeMarco Murray to huge money over a long term deal as if he's elite and giving a career flop in Oakland a modest deal to try to resurrect his career.

I take it you'll be one of those guys who would watch McFadden fail in Dallas and quickly assume that proves not re-signing Murray was a huge mistake.

How would the team know if they made a mistake (or misjudged anything) until the preseason even starts?
They had many chances to take RBs in the draft and chose not to. The way the draft fell, the value wasn't there at each pick.

What has changed since then?
Nothing at all....unless we think some whining fans and press not being happy with them would make them change their minds before any results have occurred..

And the team has NOT said they are actively looking. They have said all along that they'll have a list of possible players--just as they do for every position.

If they see and chance to upgrade...at any position including RB...they will consider it.

We know they had interest in RBs or they wouldn't have brought so many in. But they seem to not be panicking at all.

I'm resigned to the fact that these are our running backs this year. Not my plan A.B or C but I'm left to hope Randle or Ryan Williams can emerge. Maybe McFadden can be semi-effective with limited touches.

This definitely reeks of the get by mentality we had along the OL several years ago.

I get what you're saying but these quartet of RBs at least has some talent. Was never the case for that OL.

I don't know which is becoming a more tired story -- this or deflate-gate.

have to blend both together......would've Murray held onto the ball that Peppers stripped in the Playoff game if the ball pressure had been less?......seemed to work for the Pats as their fumbles decreased statistically.

maybe a little tongue in cheek :)

Exatamundo. Everything you ponder is worthy of deep discussion given the signals the FO has been sending. & NO this is not media driven. Stephen and Jerry have both made public statements.

I think them being happy with what they have is just them selling to the fan base. They said themselves after the draft a trade or FA was something they were going to look into. I dont believe for a second they are with what they have and i dont think they even want to go i to TC with what they have

The setup by ESPN, NFLN, The local media & Cowboy fandom is now cast in stone. If this RBBC approach
falls on its face and by mid-season the Cowboys are out of the race, you will never hear the end of
consternation and criticism that will proceed from every talking head on tv, radio and this board to be sure.
I can see the threads now about how bad the Cowboys FO has become and why they didn't pay heed
to all the "know it all" talking heads back in the spring. Yep...I can hear it now! Can You?

I didn't want to overpay Murray---kind of saw it as and either/or thing with Murray and Dez....and I choose Dez.

But my first choice would not have been to do what we're doing overall with the RBs, though I do the see the real possibility that it works out okay.

I think they misjudged their options. Nothing fell right in the draft to get a RB and I think they was counting on one of the top RB prospects being available.

Also, the idea that DMC was brought in to replace Murray is a mistake, IMHO. I think DMC was brought in to do what they hoped Dunbar would be doing this whole time. He's a superior pass protector and receiver out of the backfield than Dunbar and he doesn't have a penchant for fumbling the ball. Also, with DMC on the field it doesn't automatically scream that we are going to pass the ball.

I don't think DMC was ever brought in under the idea of being the workhorse.

I may pass out laughing though if Randle out rushes Murray this year. It would be comedy gold on Philly sports radio. I think I'd just call in daily as Vincent Price on Thriller.

Wouldnt be shocked if he does and not because Randle is some beast. Murray is going to hit the wall very soon and very hard. I have a feeling last year was the last time he will sniff 4.0 per carry in his career
