I don't think you even have to consider the possibility in all honesty.

Jason Garrett will be the next Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I'd like to see Paul Chryst as his OC. I have a feeling Reggie Herring will be the DC. I know Garrett wants to play a full speed, constant pressure style of football on both sides of the ball. I would love to see Dennis Thurman get a job here. I guarantee you INT totals would rise. His teams always take away passes. They did when he was a player and they have while he is coaching.

As far as OC, I'd like to go another direction than Chryst, but there's no denying what he's done at Wisconsin on offense. He has definitely opened up the offense a bit more, but I think there would be a better fit than him.

Herring is also rumored to be offered the DC job at Georgia this upcoming year, so we'll see if he'll stay another year as LB coach if Wade is brought back, unless they want to promote him and relieve Wade of his duties as DC, which I dont know if I'm too fond of.

Jerry didnt sound to displeased with Garrett when Babe interviewed him before the Saints game. In fact, Jerry went out of his way to praise Garrett for the way he has hung in there against all the criticism, Jerry like that Garrett had "thick skin". Jerry then said that Garrett would be a future HC in the league, without a doubt. Doesnt sound like to me that Jerry has any plans of letting his golden boy walk out the door.

Also, Garrett's offense is ranked in the top 5 in almost every statistical category in the league.

As was the case before Garrett and the offense is not top 5 in the category that matters most.

Tied for 12th in points.

IMO, when it comes to Garrett, you can't just look at what has happened, you have to look at what can/will happen.

Jerry has gotten burned letting young, hot assistants go to other teams and then watch as they turn teams around. I dont think he wants to let Garrett do the same.

The trend right now is the young assistant...well we have one of those, and the two have a great relationship. I think Garrett will be a better HC than OC also.

If that is his thinking, Dallas is in bad shape.

If Jerry is reluctant to let Redball walk because previous guys who are better walked, Jerry is a fool.

The defense has come so far and is looking good .I hate to let the coach go somewhere else and make the Skins compete against us.Maybe the Bills?
Make JG the coach and let Wade concentrate on the defense. If he would concede to do the turn around.

Hos, I agree with you about garrett...he will be the next hc. Question: what is paul chryst's connection to garrett? Thanks

Garrett and Chryst played together for San Antonio in USFL and their families go back to Princeton days where Garrrett played and his Dad coached.

One of Chryst's brothers played with Garrett at Princeton and is now TE coach for Jax. Another of his brother's was Chairman of the MAC conference but has recently become a sports agent.

Say that Wade takes us deep post season and Jerry picks up his 1 year option; do you think Garrett stays? Thoughts please.

:star:

If Wade takes us deep into the post season which he can do, but he must work extra hard just like the players. Anyway, if wade does get his option picked up for just one year, I think Jason Garrett will stay. Look at it this way, wade said before the chargers game that he gets no respect, but if jerry jones only gives him a one year option, that is telling jason garrett the job is yours most likely the following year. So, I think Jason will stay one more year, I think Jason also realizes that he has been on some thin ice this year himself, and he still needs to prove himself as a good coach. So, coming back for one more year with wade to really kick the cowboys offense into 2nd gear with a top high scoring efficiency would do it for Jason.

Chryst was a coach on the San Antonio Riders of the World League of American Football, and Garrett was the starting QB.

Herring turned down the DC job at Oklahoma State this past off season. I have long felt he had a promotion offer in the background as a reason.

Thanx for the chryst info. Does anyone know if he's a coryell/zampese/turner timing based pass offense disciple? If so, bringing him aboard would make perfect sense. Adding him to the offensive staff in place would be seamless.

I wouldnt be against Herring at DC at all. He has the fire that I like, and he's relatively young (50)

In watching Wisconsin several times this season, I'd say they have a similar offense to us. They like their 12 and 22 packages just like us, and like Turnver/Zampese have their timing routes that are not concerned with adjusting routes due to the defense that is being run.

They are indeed a run heavy team though, and I would not like that philosophy here in Dallas.

So Paul Chryst will be our OC because... He was a fellow San Antonio Roughrider.

That makes me feel better.

That isn't why I brought his name up, merely a connection.

Also it is not a forgone conclusion. Merely a guess.

Any reason as to why he's a guess? He doesnt seem to have many Cowboy/Garrett connections.
