Then again, he did suck as a coordinator.
Not the 1st year, he didn't.

Alot of the issues he had were related to off-field stuff which led to the players not buying into his program.

I love Herring as a position coach, but he's never coordinated before. He has no experience in when to call what, how to manage his players, any of that.

Every failed coordinator who's come down the pike had some credentials just like Herring. It's weird to me that people assume that all you have to do is promote someone who's worked with someone and everything will be okay.

If you never promote someone eventually you end up with nothing but old "retreads".

If you look at the history of 3-4 DC's in the NFL, seems to me that a good number of them use to be 3-4 LB coaches in the league.

Herring has seen and experienced all that one could expect before a promotion.

I think Todd Grantham has a better shot at being the next DC than Herring.

Has 3-4 knowledge and is a former DC.

See, I'd prefer this. I just don't like gambling with so many inexperienced coaches leading things.

It's not like we're some expansion team with a long honeymoon period here. If we don't make it, it will be because Jerry and the fans expect this team to make noise in the playoffs. Making Garrett head coach would be enough of an experiment for me. At least try to find him an experienced DC. I'd prefer a fired head coach, just like Nolan with McDaniels at Denver.
