Do you think another team might try to sign him?

Does tendering open the possibility of losing him?

Should we try and lock him up long term?

If a team does give him and offer sheet, do you match or take the first round pick?

In my opinion absolutely. Especially teams picking in the 20's or lower.

    I hope so.

Converting a ps player to a first rounder is crazy value.

    And I hope not.

He's an animal and we're lucky to even have him.

It would be a huge loss to lose him.

This. Don't want to lose Irving. One of the few Defensive talents we have. That's the side of the ball we need to improve the most. Losing him would be a big blow to that.

There is never a guarantee with a first round pick, and your odds of getting similar level production as we are getting from him this year arent good.

Also at his age he still has significant upside

A first-round tender will cost $3.91 million. Do you think it's necessary to pay Irving that to keep him?

Personally, I'd take a 2nd-round pick for him right now.

I never get the logic behind giving up someone who is playing like a first rounder for an unknown. Even a first round pick is an unknown. With as little luck as we've had getting "war daddy's" on the D-line we should do everything possible to retain Lawrence and Irving. I would like to franchise tag Lawrence to ensure this year wasn't a one time thing.

Because this guy is always an eye-wink from a suspension.

He was trouble at Iowa State, which is why he didn't get drafted. Then, he couldn't get noticed in Kansas City and had a reputation for being difficult to motivate.

This summer, he gets suspended for PEDs.

    What next? There'll be something.

A young defensive lineman that has shown 10 sack potential would have an offer the first day of free agency with a second round tender IMO. It would really force your hand to sign him to a long term deal.

A first round tender, with Irving may be a 50/50 chance someone extends him an offer sheet. For a little more cap room spent, it gives more flexibility

I think you're overt estimating our ability to find a replacement for him. It's not like we are bursting at the seams with DL talent.

Who cares? He has been producing at a high level this year and works well in tandem with Lawrence. He had one suspension for PED's and has been a great player otherwise. He turned what was spotty good play last year to consistent good play this year.

Even if we put a first rounder on him and another team makes an offer, we have the option to match.

Actually a really good hypothetical. Right now I think I would let some other team have him for a 1st round pick.

Shouldn't that depend on the offer?

A guy who has proven himself in the league or a late 1st rounder to draft another pass rusher who may or may not show up, and we'll have to wait 3 or 4 years to see... no thanks.
