If we knew we'd sign Collins, who would we have drafted instead of Chaz Green?

we have a position through is the most dominate and solid through and through of any team.
that is rare, we have a defense that is loaded now at rushers and thats strong as any four in the league now
we're not missing much , Iam happy to have Green

...instead of Chaz Green in the 3rd? I'll say Bryce Petty.

Was routing for RB Jay Ajayi or Mike Davis after the RBs ran dry...looking back I'm good with Chaz Green. If healthy he may have been the most diligent pick left.

I know, he blew OTAs, but the value on the field with pads is solid and versatile.

Not doubting you but where did you hear this? Petty had a great workout and I thought he would have been a solid pick on day 2.

I don't have a link but I remember reading it in a couple of articles just after the draft and can verify this is true. Norm or Broaddus may have mentioned it on their radio coverage of the draft also.

The best RB available.

Actually I would've done this... give up our 3rd and 4th (and future 6th or 7th round picks if necessary) to trade up in the 3rd to get Tevin Coleman. Then I take Michael Bennett (or Damien Wilson if he was available) in the 5th round. Then we walk away with 3 first round talents, our workhorse RB for the future, and a potential future starter on defense.

You are the only team in the league that pegged those guys as first round talents

We may have rolled the dice on Green trying to get him in the 4th and gone RB or DB at 91. We wanted Green badly and thought that if teams reevaluated their board over Friday night he would be gone by our 4th rounder. I would have loved to heard the war room discussion on all of this.

That's good insight as the guys in that room understand the process. They know if you've got 10 teams with OL needs and you've had X number go off the board, that there is a reshullfing going on.

100 picks in and your board should change substantially. Guys you rated high who are still on the board... Maybe you call around and get some ref flags you missed. Maybe a guy you slot as a 5th rounder because a position is so deep you revalue based on all the depth being gone

I'm with those that think they would have traded back, but one way or the other, they would've ended up with Buck Allen, imo.

Byron Jones, La'el Collins, and Randy Gregory were all first rounds talents... that shouldn't even be up for debate

Given who was on the board,I thought all along they should trade down there.
If they could find anyone in the upper 4th, then they add an early 5th and still get the same quality of player they were getting the late 4th.

At that point, there were RBs, WRs, DE, DT, S, and CB prospects that were ok value.
Oh well..

Cooper,
Ibrahim smith
Flowers
Langford
J Allen
Mike Davis
Tre Jackson
Etc

So, you say there wasn't much talent on the board, yet another team would have given up a fifth to move up? Interesting.

Josh Shaw, Xavier Cooper or Grady Jarrett. Those are who I wanted them to take regardless of Collins.

No two teams evaluate talent the same....or do you actually think they all have the same board?

That was MY opinion...and I said IF they could find a partner. I did not assume anything.
The 5th is fair trade for what I was referring to. .

Also, where did I say there wasn't much talent?
Having a bunch of players all in a tier gives plenty of room to move down if you can work it out.

So, you say there wasn't much talent on the board, yet another team would have given up a fifth to move up? Interesting.

Just few picks later, Cleveland moved up from the upper 4th to the end of the 3rd (NewEngland) and gave up a 4th, 5th, and 6th. They took Cooper. New England too Tre Jackson and got the extra 5th and 6th. Both teams were probably happy

Green would have been a luxury. Leary has this year and next on his deal. And Collins can play RT just as well, if not better.

Upgrading the weakest link on the offensive line(Leary) is a LUXURY to you? Collins can play right tackle?... based on what his ZERO games playing there??

so, is the assumption that the crystal ball was telling us that we were getting Collins ahead of time? otherwise, if we had drafted him, it likely pushes Gregory off the board, right?

if we knew Collins was in the bag, then we go more defense, IMO...wouldn't matter where

Hmmm. Then too early for Buck Allen, and I dont think they liked Jeremy Langford. And I dont think they were really interested in a DT.

David Cobb better than both of these, and available in the 4th. Coulda, shoulda.
