If we lose tomorrow is this season a failure?

A similar thread was started a few weeks ago asking the same question. If we lose tomorrow it's going to be like what happened in 07, winning 13 games, our division, earning the #1 seed and going one and out to team at home that we beat during the regular season. Hard to spin any positives about a season when something like that happens. Not only did we beat the Packers during the regular season but we beat them handily and they're coming in tomorrow a little beat up with their #1 receiver out. What we accomplished during the regular season has set the bar very high and to end up one and done to a team we've already beaten would give this season a huge black eye and conjure up bad memories from the 07 season. Naturally they'll be some FANS who will look to spin positives, talking about how we bounced back from 4-12 in 2015 to 13-3 this season and we did it with a rookie QB.

Some will look to make excuses if we lose saying that if Romo was the QB we would have won. We all know that's coming by some if we lose "Yeah, if we had Tony we would have won and ended up in the SB." If Dak has a bad game tomorrow you can bet the Dak vs Romo debate will start up again and it could get pretty nasty in here. There's still a divide amongst Romo FANS who still want him as the QB thinking he gives us our best chance especially against Aaron Rodgers. The Cowboys haven't made it past the second round of the playoffs in 21 years, we have to stop that streak tomorrow or this season will be looked back on in the same dim light as the 07 season.

In my eyes we did all that we did for no reason. Glad we found Dak and Zeke but it would be waste winning all those games.

I'd prefer we make the Superbowl, or at least win one game.

Regardless, I won't be one of these cry baby *****es, who will throw a temper tantrum and start trolling if we were to lose.

Failure? No. Disappointing? Yes.

Too many positive things happened this year to label the whole season a failure. They attained their first two goals: win the NFCE and obtain HFA-- therefore the season can't be an entire failure.

Nice post! And I agree..this team needs to change the narrative..21 years it's been since the NFC title game. Only Wash and Detroit haven't gone longer.

Yes,I am not expecting a SB with 2 rookies leading u but we need to atleast win one playoff game to help us going forward .

Going in as a 5 or 6 seed, this would be a success. But, having the #1 and go one and done would be a failure. There is no guarantee that Dallas makes the playoffs the next few years and even rarer getting the top seed again.

Respectable loss in the championship game at the very least but I would say we need a SB appearance. These kind of opportunities don't present themselves too often......

This team wasn't expected to be here. Yes, it will be a lost opportunity. But youth at quarterback and a lack of talent on defense could be our undoing.

If not, we will have arrived ahead of schedule.

We need to win. Losing would create too many question marks going into next season. Getting to our first NFC title since 96 would be big. I really believe whomever wins tomorrow will be the NFC rep in Houston as well.

It would be disappointing but not a failure. We are definitely moving in the right direction. Jaylon Smith plus the next offseason and draft could make us a dominant team. The likes that haven't been seen in the modern salary cap era.

It was a great season from the front office to acquire talent but there has never been a successful season from any 1 seed that goes 1 and done in the playoffs. The front office already won their Super Bowl by finding Dak.


The post season is what the NFL is all about. This is what you play for.

Was the regular season an aberration? Is our defense at even semi championship caliber? Has the league figured out Dak? Is it worth trying to retain players like Mo and Leary?

If we win and play well against the Packers I'd say most of those questions are answered.

I agree with you on your future perspective. If the Dak and Zeke era doesn't produce any Super Bowls, a loss will represent a huge wasted opportunity.

The way he phrased it, though, it seems more geared toward the future. Not playing Romo is more a hindsight question.

It will pretty obviously be a failure, but 31 teams fail. Nobody said the playoffs were fair. This team already proved they were the best team in the NFC for 16 games. Playoffs have always been fan service.
