If we make big moves and they don't work out, then what?

Does Jerry and fans see this as a failure, or do we praise the aggression we took to make our team better and or put them in contention to push to go far in the playoffs!?? Please give your thoughts
The bulk of the fan base (just look around this place and in this thread) does results-based analysis: moves that work out are good, moves that don't work out are bad. You can safely ignore any and all analysis by those people, but they will scream the loudest after things don't work out. Focus on the process. A good process will yield more good results than bad results in the long run.

Cowboys like to build through the draft. Amari Cooper trade isn't one that is made often at all.

Jerry doesn't care how the fans feel. That's the way he wants it so that's the way it's done.

That is simply stupid as hell...I'll say my own words, no thank you. Run along and back into the street or a concert.
I'm not sure what you are upset about and I am really not sure what your statement means. If I said something to offend you it was not intentional. I will apologize for anything I typed that may have upset you.

My stance is that teams should always look to the draft, free agency, and trades to build a roster. We are very active with the draft in building the roster. We finally got active this year with trades by acquiring Gilmore and Cooks. However, our external free agent activity has been lacking severely for years now. We tend to shop for bargain basement free agents and never really dive into potential game changing free agents. I just wish we would do something in that area every once in a while. At least go after some medium priced free agents instead of jus the K-Mart specials.

Exactly. At least show the fan base you care. He is getting destroyed for his comments yesterday by the national media. Like DESTROYED. He is probably counting his money laughing.
He doesn’t care.

I don’t think he even likes football that much anymore. It’s a business to him now.

Only thing I wouldn't like is to sit through the first day of the draft in 24 without a pick.

Use the rest of the draft capital and players, but do not touch the 1st.

When you are drafting around 20, you are really not drafting anyone is a real first rd talent. There hardly ever is more than 15 players in any draft that are considered true first rd picks.
Therefore one should be much more flexible about trading it. There are usually about twice as many second rd talents out there so if you want to maximize your draft when you are picking where we usually are, go for as many 2nd rd picks you can get.

As regards FA we have consistently overpaid for our our guys and that is a serious flaw. IT eats up money we could use elsewhere. Unfortunately that is the way the Jones boys want it and that is that.
about the only ray of hope I see is that they have been a lot more aggressive trading for good players. Hankins, Cook, etc. That is a very good thing.
BUT in my eyes as long as they keep overpaying our own and thus do not have enough to really make plays for other players in FA we probably are going to remain as we are. Never quite contenders.

Then the people who are calling for a big move will critize Jerry for making a big move even though that's what's they wanted.
Jerry rightly received credit for the off-season moves this year of acquiring Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks. I appreciated the effort to make this team better. There’s enough talent here to make some noise this year with some more tweaking. Why wouldn't you as a FO push more chips into the center of the table?

But as the trade deadline looms and Jerry and Stephen apparently are content to stand pat with a 4-2 team that has some obvious flaws, he also deserves criticism for his on-going practice of worrying more about the future “relevance” and cap issues than he’s worried about winning NOW.

Meanwhile the GMs across the league who are held accountable for results NOW are running circles around the Jones cartel in efforts to get better.

I would appreciate some hustle from this FO even if it failed. At least that’s better than listening to “Giggles” Jones lecture us again about cap limits while the better GMs say “hold my beer” and make moves.

Do we need to make a deal? When you look around the roster where is there a serious weakness? I suppose we could say OL, which has played poorly. CB, where we lost Diggs. DT, where we get no push. WR, where our WRs aren't stepping up. LB? We lost LVE and Overshown. I think there are areas that could be upgraded, but not really glaring weaknesses.

I think the OL is having problems but I also think they can and will play better. Besides, where are you going to replace what you have with a new player?

I have not liked what I have seen from our CBs. Gilmore looks like he lost a step and Lewis is inconsistent. If there is a top CB that someone is willing to trade, I would definitely consider it. But, I want a younger CB with a future, not another washed up veteran.

The same with DT. I think Mazi will be fine and Odighizuwa is already breaking out. Hankins has done what was expected but he is not going to be around for many more years. Gallimore is a waste of space and Golston is a JAG. The Cowboys could use a stud DT. Here I would be willing to take an older vet like the Eagles did with Suh last year. But if there is a stud who is a few years younger that would be even better. (I am not suggesting they go get Suh).

WR is an enigma. I think the Cowboys offensive scheme is not a good fit for Cooks. Noah Brown would be better suited for this offense. But they can change the way they use Cooks and get some miles out of him. Gallup is good for some routes and not others. But given the right plays he can contribute. Maybe they could use a bigger possession type receiver to compliment the receivers they have.

They are probably set at LB for this year. I like what I have seen from Clark since he stepped in for LVE. Bell has done an excellent job too. They have Evans now so we have to see what he brings.

IMO, if they can pry a young CB from a losing team, like Surtain from Denver or Jaylon Johnson from Chicago, it might be the best move for now and in the future.

Accountability breeds aggression in football.

Other GMs are tied to the teams success. Ours is not. Him and his son have infinite job security, a full stadium, and a licence to print money.

That right there is the problem, and has been for 28 years.

Well said- It’s the brutal truth. And I wouldn‘t (won’t) hesitate to give credit where it is due for on field playoff results that include something more than a wild card win every 5 years. But I refuse to pretend that our front office is “great” when they aren’t.

I love the Cowboys and always will. But until proven otherwise with playoff results, the “emperor” and his unqualified spoiled son are naked. And I won’t pretend otherwise.

You can live with failure as long as you know that you did not capitulate and surrender to the challenge placed in front of you.

This applies to nearly every facet of human life, far beyond just pro football.

I know there aren’t many parallels between football and baseball. But as a long-frustrated a Mets fan, I’ve seen it from both sides. We had the Wilpons, who were caught up in the Bernie Madoff scandal and lost a lot of money, so cheaped out at every turn. Then we got a new owner with deep pockets, who went out and bought every star he could. This past year proved to be a disaster. They sold off half the team in the second half because guys who were no-brainers all underperformed. It takes the right mix of youth, experience, coaching, chemistry, health, and a WHOLE LOT of luck. If it was easy, there would be no losers. I’d rather be in the conversation every year, than blowing our wad to be a flash in the pan winner followed by years of not being competitive at all. I lose all interest in watching if my teams aren’t competitive.

Building through the draft only works if you draft well. 2023, for example, has been a total wash.

Then we’ve lost nothing. The goal is to get to the Super Bowl. Anything short of that is not progress for this team. There is no point in bringing back the same group that wilts under divisional round pressure every year. We need to shake it up and risk some mistakes.

I am the exact opposite, I consider 'being in the conversation' to be an indication you will never go all out to win.
And that kind of attitude means you NEVER WILL WIN IT ALL,
I want an organization that is busting its gut to win it all,
Not just remain relevant which is where the boys are now and have been for nearly thirty years
