If we make big moves and they don't work out, then what?

I am the exact opposite, I consider 'being in the conversation' to be an indication you will never go all out to win.
And that kind of attitude means you NEVER WILL WIN IT ALL,
I want an organization that is busting its gut to win it all,
Not just remain relevant which is where the boys are now and have been for nearly thirty years
Yeah, but that was kinda part of my point. The Mets won 101 games in 2022. They didn’t win it all, but they were exciting to watch and had promise. They spent like crazy in the off-season and went 75-87 this year. They were unwatchable, and I didn’t watch. Making big moves isn’t always the answer. They might get the fan base excited at the time, but if they’re not the right moves they can backfire and set you back for years.

No risk no gain

But if you feel like you’re ‘right there’, being risky isn’t always smart. Especially if it will set you back in the future.
What real evidence is there that we are 'right there?'
AND if you are that close then making a big move might just get you over the hump?
THERE is a difference between taking a calculated risk and then betting it all on the turn of a card.
Show me a team over the last ten years or so that did not have a high price cap FA or a big trade guy that won it all? I think you look at the teams that have done so virtually all have taken one big risk but NOT gone hog wild.

If we had a real GM, we'd be smart enough to cut bait and move on.

And exactly why would anyone feel this team is "right there"?

I’m not saying I feel we’re right there. We may or may not be. But the evidence shows that those making the decisions feel that way.

Which is the problem. I'm sure they feel a WR would put us over the top.

I’m not sure they feel that way. All we heard all offseason was how ‘speedy’ this WR group was. So why can’t they get open? I think the OL is the problem, they aren’t getting enough time to get open.

In last year's draft alone. If we draft a monster OL in the 2nd, then this is a different team.

Problem is, we've simply spent way too much time on other areas of the team, and often have focused on the wrong traits. It's just so hard to correct years of mismanagement.

So if we trade for Derrick Henry, and we lose in the Divisional round like we usually do, does that make it's Henry's fault or we were going to lose that game anyway? Making a move doesn't mean all the blame for the team falls off MM, Dak and co. and goes to the person we traded for.

Careful, this isn't a Dak thread.

At this point. I feel like a big move is needed. Jerry and his son need to get this fan base back. The real fans. Not the suits who fill the suites and season ticket numbers. The fans that want to believe this family actually cares about winning. Doing nothing proves yet again this family doesnt care about our fans at all. As if we needed more evidence of that.
You brought up a real good point that I didn't even think about.... It seems like the ones that wear the suits and fill the suites can care less. They're just out trying to impress their colleagues.

I went to the tour. Those suites. Go for 10k a game.

Bad trades are a big part of this team in the last 25 years. I can see why they're limiting how often they do it nowadays. But really, all the trades have turned out bad, both received and sent since the haul we got in the Herschel Wallet trade, over 30 years ago. The last good trade we made we squandered because we thought he was too Stoic.

What’s the worst that can happen being risky? Go 27 years without reaching a conference championship?

Depends on your point of view. Would you rather win once and then be completely irrelevant for the next 10-15 years, or would you rather make the playoffs every year and hope you have a good couple games at the right time to get there? I’m not sure there’s a right or wrong answer, just depends on your personality. Personally, I’m not taking time out of my life to watch a 5-win team every week. But I’ll watch a 12-win team with a chance to go all the way every week. Do I wish they’ve had some championships in that time? Of course. But I’m happy with a competitive product on the field every year.

I completely understand your point of view, but I did watch every game of the Campo years, so I am a glutton for punishment.
