If we make it to the playoff in 2014, Are we super bowl legitimate contenders?

I know I lost of you guys have lost hope for this season. With the schedule coming out the rest of us (myself included) realized how REAL things just got. However IF Dallas wins the division and make it to the playoff could we be considered a real contender for the Super Bowl. I don't mean if we back our way in via the wildcard. But if the Cowboys win the NFC East, with their schedule would you consider them a contender to go to the Super Bowl and not just a case of dumb luck?

Generally speaking, I'd say any team that makes the playoffs is a legit contender because you never know who can get hot. Apart from last year, the separation between contenders and pretenders is generally pretty minimal, every team in the cap era is flawed.

I have been on Good Ship Lolly Pop Bus for so many years predicting double-digit wins and playoffs (see my signature which desperately needs an update). But the ship has docked, the bus has flat tires, and I am no longer predicting success for this club - at least not this season.

I believe they will have double-digit losses, and I don't believe they'll sniff the playoffs unless they purchase tickets from a team that's going.

Having said that, if this team makes it to the playoffs, they'll be out before halftime. Heck, they'll be done before the coin toss.

I won't say it's dumb luck we made it, and won the division. That would be deserved to win it. But to say SB contenders. I would say no at this point.
It would really be determined how they played, and how they compared to the SB contenders now, like SF & Seattle. Now if we end up beating both of those teams, and are within a few games of them. Then possibly.

Even back in 1992 and the 12-4 record, Cowboys played very well. But were not considered contenders. Pundits said they were too young, inexperienced in the playoff. SF was expected to beat us, then Buffalo was too, as it was their 3rd time there. they had the experience. We didn't.

So one really never knows.

If you make the playoffs you're dangerous. Last year was an exception where the favorites made it from both the NFC and AFC.

If we did you would have to consider we could be a contender. I dont see any nfce team being a threat though so probaly not.

We need some of that dumb luck.... in the Draft. Dallas could be contenders if they fix what is wrong with the Defense.....which is a lot. The DL, Safety and depth at the oft injured LB position.

Lots of work to do but in that process we're getting younger and healthier.

You don't rebuild with ROmo. Do you rebuild with Johnny Manziel?

I do not believe the team can lay claim to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender until it wins that elusive first playoff game. It does not matter if Dallas struggles (as generally expected) and squeak into the tournament or blows folks out of their socks with a fantastic regular season run. None of it will matter until the Cowboys establish that they are good enough and re-enforce they are good enough to contend with the rest of the playoff field.

The first step must be solidly winning either that wild card or divisional round game. Solidly does not necessarily mean convincingly. It simply means playing well enough to advance with few (or zero) coaching goofs and spotty player execution. Playing well would instill confidence and determination for taking the second step and increasing the opportunity for winning in the next round. Until then, it's all speculation.

Baby steps: First we fashion a defense out of thin air. Then we win at least 6 games this season. Then we win 7 games next season. Then our defense (if we is luck-ay) gels. Then he next season we are back to 8-8. The following season . . . wait, by dat time we will half to rebuild the offense.

Forget the playoffs this year unless Roger gets 6 extra teams into the playoffs. Even then it will be an uphill battle to get into the playoffs. Because, we half no defense to speak of.

We're playoff contenders, anyway. Beyond that, you can't expect anything. And we certainly wouldn't be favorites in the NFC.

Though, with even a mediocre defense we'd have been a relatively competitive playoff team the last two seasons.

Not really. Unless our defense improves dramatically. It will be better but not nearly enough to be a SB contender.

I wouldnt count us out if we are able to fix up our defense. I would have lost so much money in 2011 if i had bet on a SB winner because in a million years i never would have guessed the Giants were gonna win it when you looked at them that offseason. So hey you never know. I would love it if we make the playoffs this year.

I wouldn't attempt any type of prediction until after training camp.

It is possible that the Cowboys could be really good this year. The probability is probably low, but it is possible.

The offense could be really good and they have blue collar but legit NFL players at most positions on defense. They just need to hit on some draft picks and/or some young unproven players already on the roster like Wilcox, Holloman, Crawford, etc..
