If we're trying to get better, why keep the same guys?

Well they sure have been serious so far. They did an excellent job on getting Osa signed. That was an important 1st step.
Yup...serious about locking up the same guys that get bullied off the field. Nobody can touch Jerry when it comes to winning his way. Or losing, as it were.

  • Serious Question: If we are trying to get better as a team, be more competitive in the playoffs, and transform this soft culture into a tough playoff tested team, why are we so committed as an organization to keeping the same guys?
The Rinse and Repeat approach permeates the whole organization, from: Jerry, to Advisors, Officials = soft Culture.
There's no dissenting new voices (at any decision making level), its the same group, protecting their own interests (and back). Deflecting blame (rather than take responsibility) and doing what they know, because that's all they know.

They think this is all just luck.

Never mind Aaron Rodgers and Eli and drew brees and Reid and all these guys all retired or left the conference and you had every shot to get close.

Brock purdy? Jalen hurts? This is who y’all let run the conference ?
And having a guy named dak doesn't inspire much confidence.

The Dallas Cowboys - including current free agents - have as a team collectively won 2 wild card playoff games in the last 7 seasons. Yes they have made the playoffs 4 of those 7 years, but is this a mix of players we just can’t afford to lose? Sure some of them are worth keeping, but don’t we need some new blood, new leadership, a new drive to take it to the next level?

  • It would be understandable if we had won more playoff games with these guys. We want to “run it back” with the same guys as if all we need is another chance?
I would like to see some cap space dedicated to some new players who have been on teams that have won lots of playoff games.

I’m not saying it has to be a complete roster turnover, but can we just not continue with the “we like our guys” mantra that has dealt us two wild card wins in 7 years? If we are going to get some valuable cap space, I would like to see some new blood brought in.

Otherwise are we not just doing the same things and expecting different results?
This post and past posts like it are hard to disagree with.

Osa is a solid player. They urgently needed sign him and they did. They will have at least a dozen new players on this roster. They intentionally raised the cap space for this year to build a better team. You are getting the new blood not only in players, but in the coaching staff as well.
Ok Jerry. I’ll believe it when i see it 30 years of incompetence tells me it won’t change

Simply because we drafted our guys and we want to ensure that we get everything out of them even if they're UDFA's or late round picks/guys who just aren't good! I heard someone on a radio show say about the eagles, how they don't hang onto their guys, if a guy isn't playing good, they're not afraid to let them go and replace them with someone else! We have to stop this fear of losing players, next man up!!!!

Bob, I think you hit the nail on the head with your statement about keeping the same guys on this team if we're really trying to improve. Liking our guys merely ensures Jerry & Son of being fairly assured of the limited success and monetary value of the Dallas Cowboys' brand.

That's their standard operating procedure. Why did they open up 50m in cap space? That's not normal for them. What am I missing here? What did they need that space for? Parsons isn't a problem. If they signed Parsons tomorrow, our cap space would go to 60m, not down. What am I not seeing?
they're about to pay the hell out of our own players maybe who knows, maybe D-law promised them he'd be back to the old d-law and he wants 32 million

Jerry’s ego tells he that they’re close. That’s always the answer.

One of the issues i see is that this FO and scouting departement has big problems evaluating players.

Just look at our drafts for example or our trades.

I think they are aware of this but have no solution. So they stick to players that they know best.

The biggest problem of course are the joneses. They are both not professional managers. They dont have the knowlege to set up a working environment a business needs to be successful.

One reason we were successful under Jimmy. He was handed all authority to build that environment.

The coaching staff got turned over, although that seemingly was not the original plan. There is a good amount of talent on the team. There is also a lot of other things to do besides football--podcasts, commercials, strange people walking around the facility, etc.--which all create a huge distraction.

Some of the same guys are actually effective. They are good enough to win with.
Jerry just needs to rebuild around them.
Dak and Lamb have only had another playmaker at WR once.
Osa has never played with another really good DT.
The LB position was mostly ignored recently just as the safety position once was.

In the few years Dallas had an effective offense, they often lacked a defense that could stop the run game and recently lacked their own run game.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. However, unless Jerry brings in 2-3 free agents that can fill starting roles effectively and has a very successful draft at other position, not much will change.

This defense with the current cap and resigning to the strong player level, will still be growing and improving.

Sign a solid outside DT, and projected starters from this past season. Strength can be improved and in new staff leadership. There is some strong talent in this draft. Day 2 and Day 3 has an improving talent draft pool and does make a difference when well scouted and matched with this staff and their influence on team awareness and interactions.

After the players arrive, it then starts for the fan to watch development.

In the off season, one can just toss that 30 year old calendar the hell away.

I'm sure we've all experienced starting a new job, or walking into a new locker room. or a new bar, or a new hunting camp, or meeting a new girlfriend's/boyfriend's family, or any other setting involving an established group dynamic.

The already established vibe of that group dynamic becomes clear pretty quickly. The newbs aren't changing that vibe in Dallas. Not without completely and entirely removing all those who have already been assimilated, and that is never going to happen.

The outspoken get run off. The yes men get rich.

Many players are worth keeping. I used to tell my staff, it's easier to find a coach, than a player...especially, with a salary cap. In other words, you got what you got, pull your frikkin head out and coach 'em up!! If not, I'll bring in another coach.
Even the the best coach can’t make chicken salad out of chicken crap. When I first got into the gig many years ago, a wise old coach told me after we’d been soundly beaten by a team with superior talent, son…you’ve got to have the horses to run the races.

We don't. We simply maintain our fandom.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel as Stephen shows no signs of being much different than big poppa pump.

The fans are literally the only fools in this relationship because the FO is beyond wealthy and the players and coaches are heavily compensated for failure.......we endure this for free
Well said!
