If you could have one current head coach

Pete Carrol is my man, and that was before the SB win. He is so at ease this time around. He loves the game, is emotional, knows talent, takes players and let's them play to their strengths....just a great coach.

Belichek......Payton (always great O), Harbaugh (Talented Lines/great D), Tomlin (his teams are always in the SB without great talent). Carrol, being a players coach, needs talent and leadership to ensure his ship is steered in the right direction. What happens when the team loses some of that stacked deck of talent? There is no doubt that Harbaugh and Carrol are benefiting from their recent college familiarity via the draft but Harbaugh is already displaying NE like draft structures (VERY active, trading for future picks, accumulating picks, etc.)

That's the list I'd go with, also Andy Reid would be near the top as well(after those guys), even though he was an Eagle he's a helluva coach.

Just send him on vacation somewhere during the draft

In the first 3 rounds maybe; Mo/Esco tbd. He has been very lacking on finding any late round contributors? Not UDFA (scouting), late round draftees. Holloman and Harris are the only two that come to mind.

Garrett is one of the worse game managers I have ever seen. He's just lost.

And that makes no sense because he's been in the NFL for so many years.

This is the biggest issue that the Garrett homers just gloss right over and ignore it as if its nothing at all to recognize or be concerned about. The fact that its an issue when he has played at every level and been coaching in the NFL at all different levels. Its mind boggling to me. I dont know which is more mind boggling, the reality he has these issues or that the homers just act as if its not an issue.

1- Belichick
2- Payton
3 - Either of the Harbaugh Brothers

Then 27 more and then Garrett. :)

The Cowboys won a Super Bowl with Barry Switzer eating a hot dog on the sideline.

Talent wins.

Where did that talent come from in the first place? Oh yeah, a team building alpha coach.

I don't think they gloss over anything. Why do you say they do? I'm as big a Garrett homer as there is, and while the game management issue is overblown, I've freely admitted a number of times that it's an obvious weakness of his. I don't see what's so wrong in saying so.

It's also an issue that's not exposed if we add the necessary talent on defense we desperately need. And it can be mitigated at the coordinator level. And he can improve.

It's a liability, and an unfortunate one, but it's not a fatal flaw. There are a lot of good coaches who win in this league without dominating an opponent on game day.

Practically any one of the current HCs named would likely constitute a step up over Garrett's on-the-field decision making. Gotta wonder who might be named HC if none of them were made available upon JG's firing. Finding someone highly capable who could likely co-exist with Jerry and be agreeable to accept the job would be somewhat challenging.

Sean Payton with or without Jeremiah.

He knows how to win with our old coaches and players, which we couldn't.

He's also the guy that wanted Romo when he was here and when he left to NWO.

That tells me something.
Payton would probably be the one I would select as well.

I think a factor has to be, who gets along with Rod Marinelli. This is the 2nd year of going back to Tampa 2, 4-3. JJ is going to want to keep Marinelli since they just spent this FA period and draft to put pieces together to make it work. Regardless of what happens to JG, Rod will be back.
