If you could only pick one movie

Some of the final scenes, showing Christopher Reeve literally dying from lost love, is still very powerful stuff in my opinion.

On the humorous side, if you get a kick out of romantics who cry in movies, watch Somewhere in Time with them. Guaranteed to have them blubbering. :laugh2:

Many of us suffer from loving our movies ... just ... TOO ... damn ... much! Apparently.

1 "most favorite" movie? Pshaw! That's for sissies. I've got 50 favorite movies in my "Top 10" alone. :laugh2:

I'll see your 50 and raise you 50 more of mine. :laugh1: Still, I think the fun part of this thread is witnessing members wrestle with just picking one movie and seeing which one "tops" all the rest of their favorites. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Ben-Hur was THIS close from edging out my pick of The Ten Commandments. I was all :abuseme: throughout the decision process, but was :toast: by the time I posted my choice. It's all good though.

Well, I can get through most so-called love stories without shedding a tear myself, but I would be lying if I said that Reeve's heartbreak didn't get to me at the end too. So, feel free to put me somewhat in that category as well.

You battled the struggle ... struggled against the inner-turmoil battle ... wrestled with your movie favorites all fighting for the top spot. You're a better man than I for having been able to boil it down to just one.

Admit it, though, there's some level of regret inside that you didn't go the other way, or pick both ... :laugh2:

Not really regret. More like personal awe.

There were many movies posted by other members which are on my all-time favorite list as well. Yet, when I sat down and really thought about it, the choice was fairly easy.

I'm 47. Although they couldn't really explain it, my parents told me I was watching The Ten Commandments at five years old. I had either watched all or part of the movie at least once a year until I was 18. It was around that time I missed it being shown on Easter for the very first time. After that brainfart, I bought the VHS of the movie and later upgraded it to DVD. Since then I have watched it fully or partially at least four times a year.

I have re-watched many of my favorite movies lots of times, but none comes close to that one. Not even Ben-Hur. And I still love it just as much today as when I was a kid.

Shoot, the parting of the Red Sea STILL (literally) humbles me. Damn that 1950's high-tech special effects! :laugh1:

It was impressive, wasn't it? That movie still holds up, other than maybe having had Edward G. Robinson, with his unique style of delivering lines ... so unique ... playing the part of Dathan. A bit of a stretch, looking back. LOL.

I watched it as a kid, also. Pretty awe inspiring stuff. Movie making that made a real impact on millions. Obviously you know that. But, hey, in all seriousness ... Great Choice, DE!

And I shouldn't have said, "regret" ... poor choice of a word. Why regret a favorite, no matter how anyone decides which one ends up being theirs? Was just having fun, as you could probably tell.

I first saw the Ten Commandments on the Big Screen. One of those huge single movie theatres with balconies. That was a time epic movies were always being shown and there was always an intermission. Four hour movies in the theatres. Could not imagine sitting in a theatre for that long now. I look at the times before I go now and if it exceeds much over two hours I don't go.
