Then we fix Roy!

Seriously, Roy should be connected to Zachs' hip PERIOD, ....pffft! vacationing in Mexico and working out on his own.

It seems to me Williams could learn an awful lot just by being around Zach Thomas.....Zach should have ViVa Meheeco! with Roy, they should room together in training camp...they should go to the movies together and see Iron Man...they should drink from the same Coke, eat from the same PopCorn and hold hands to the bathroom for chris sakes!

:D

Wow, I had to read that thread title like 3 times before I got what you were saying.

At first I thought you were really angry at Zach Thomas. LOL!

The good thing about having Thomas around is that his fire will rub off on guys.

Of course, a guy who prioritizes cruises with him family over organized team activities is probably not going to burn anything except bridges this year.

Suppose it was a charity cruise that had been planned for up to a year in advance? Tell the ship not to leave port? Tell the charity thanks but no thanks? Tell the sponsors of the cruise that your word isn't any good?

Voluntary and excused. When will these words sink in?

Voluntary and excused. When will these words sink in?

"One player, a starter on defense, said that most players assume that "voluntary" OTAs will occur in mid- to late May and plan their schedules accordingly." Plan accordingly. Those are the words that sink in. The other stuff is just Darren Hambrick talk.

If you can prove to me that it was a charity cruise that had been planned for a year in advance, I might change my opinion. Otherwise it becomes clear looking around the league that few players who are not either injured or involved in contractual disputes miss these.

I doubt I can prove it unless word leaks out about it. Even then, I doubt most will change their minds. To hell with charity.

Does anybody really believe Roy Williams would gain anything by going to voluntary OTAs?

Now, I do agree with the arguemnt that it may look bad to those outside of the organization and maybe some inside the organization.

This is an extremely important year for Roy Williams but I doubt anything will be gained or lossed because he is going to miss OTAs.

To be honest, I don't know if that helps Roy's cause.

Roy Williams can certainly donate money and since the event has been going on for 9 years, it is safe to assume there will be a chance for him to go next year.

Or he could just donate the money straight up... It'll cut out all the costs related to the cruise...

Not about helping or hurting... Just putting it out there.

And realistically, if he'd waited until next year, and still missed OTAs in the process, then there would still be an issue.

I agree. Too much is being made of this. I would say that if I thought my job was on the line I wouldn't schedule anything like this. However, it's likely that this was scheduled before the stuff hit the fan as bad as it has. This is not something I would hang my hat on. RW has other things to worry about than this.

I have to agree.

The Dallas Cowboys organization excused Roy Williams from the OTA, so that should be enough for everyone.

However, besides the now infamous "Who isn't earning their paycheck" article by JJT, I don't know if Roy Williams has been this heavily scrutinized to the point that the staff has to call special meetings and teammates, former and present making comments vocally.

I personally wouldn't go because of some the reasons you stated, but the most important thing here is that I am not Roy Williams and the guy is a grown man that needs to make decisions for himself.

But if anybody thinks Roy Williams can improve or him having a good seasons depends on him going to the OTAs, I think that is a seriously flawed argument.

I just wanted to point out that just because it is a charity event, it still wouldn't change my opinion on him missing the event.

Has the team said his job is on the line?

Not trying to be a smart alec. I've seen that mentality here, but nothing from the team to indicate it. We made no off season moves at Safety. I just don't think he's on the chopping block like some believe. We're not going to leave ourselves high and dry without a viable SS and FS when we're this close.

no kidding, in fact we don't even have a true backup behind Roy, the only other safety practicing at strong is Pat Watkins

Too bad we don't have Zach from 5 years ago. I totally see opposing offenses trying to see if they can get one one with Zach (maybe he is not in on 3rd and longs?) because he would be abused.

I thought he was at FS behind Hamlin and Brown was at SS.

No? I'm asking because I honestly am not sure.
