Is your DT the Sam Adams who played next to Siragusa for Baltimore and, if so, isn't he old enough to retire?

It's the same Sam and he has played for several teams (last year was with the Bengals). He is old, he is big, but he is still better than almost everyone he goes up against. The funny thing is that he is quicker in pursuit than you might imagine. And, he has one of the "quickest first steps" around which is important for a DT / NT.

The theory is to hold his snaps to first and second down, and keep him rested.

My next question(two part) is: are you worried and, if not, why not?
I saw Sam Monday Night in San Fran. Sam is gargantuan, and looked puffed, in at least two senses of that word.
The other concern I had was Cutler's brain, after his macho, non-sliding run down to the goal line, in a meaningless game.
San Diego's receivers must have improved, because they were bad. Floyd looks better. Rookie Naanee reminds me of Boldon already, and 1st round pick Buster Davis jumped so high for a ball, last week, that the coaches checked his footwear. Then SD has Jackson, whose feet too big.
I still think Chargers will win AFC West, and Oakland's defense will be better than Denver's.

Hey Cowboys fans,
Let me start by saying that I am a respectful poster and didn't come here to talk trash. I grew up in Arlington and went to my share of Cowboys games back during the Danny White, Drew Pearson, Tony Dorsett years and really liked the team then.
Anyway, I am coming to the game (with the family) this weekend and would like to hear the scoop on Cowboys "players to watch." I would also be happy to answer questions about the Broncos if you have questions. I am a pretty knowledgeable fan and have a good understanding of the team and players.

To start, much of the practice info I have seen has been with a makeshift offensive line. Our line is a little dinged up and I expect they are resting several of our starters for the game (while trying out some young talent). I have seen reports about Meadows vs. Ware and I will honestly say I don't know if Meadows will be on our final roster.
Our starting O-line (from left to right) will be Lepsis (groin), Hamilton (concussion), Nalen, Kuper, and Pears. So, if you see those guys getting beat, you are indeed beating our starters.
Our D-line has been totally retooled and we really don't know what to expect. I suspect it will take us 4-6 regular season games to really gel. For a pass rush, look for rookie Jarvis Moss (knee sprain) and second year player Elvis Dumervil. If you keep these guys out of the backfield, they are our "speed rushers." First and second down will be Ekuban (you know him), Engleberger (not flashy, but decent), and from UT rookie Tim Crowder.
Our biggest question on defense is not really the performance of Champ and Dre, it is our traditionally strong linebacking corps. Our MLB DJ Williams is a tremendous athelete, but has been having a difficult time picking up the new scheme. If this continues, look for Dallas to have a strong running game up the middle this weekend by either Jones or Barber. It may take DJ a year to totally adapt, we'll see. Our competition for SAM is still open, we expect Nate Webster to start there this weekend. He is known for big, helmet popping hits.

Our offense is starting to look potent now that guys are getting healthy. Javon Walker is always big, look for him to make a couple big plays. Second year receiver Brandon Marshall is a guy with a huge future if he stays healthy. He is big, fast, and runs great routes. He could be the guy the Cowboys overlook. The final position I will bring up is our tight ends Graham and Scheffler. You guys are probably familiar with Daniel Graham, but we are looking at him as a receiver also - will he get separation and make catches? Second year TE Tony Scheffler has some wheels and will remind you of Witten. With Cutler's arm, they can be a dangerous tandem in the 15-30 yard range.

Those are the basics, what should I know about the 'Boys these days?

i have no question ..............but i will tell you this...

john elway was the greatest quarterback to ever play in the national football league..

simon fletcher was a pretty damn good pass rusher from my hometown of bay city, texas.

I am a Dallas fan when Dallas isn't playing the Broncos. :)

In regards to Sam Adams...he is a big boy for sure, but what worries me is how easily he got pushed off the line in the San Fran game. His job is to clog the middle and force the runners outside into Denver's speedy DEs. Perhaps he (like the rest of Denver's defense) is still learning the Bates defensive system and there are still wrinkles to iron out.

I think the Chargers will be good this year, but I think they take a step back. Sure they have talent on the field, but with the turnover in coaching, I think that there will be an adjustment. And keep in mind, the previous coach was no lush. So for, at least, the first part of the season, I expect the Chargers to have some growing pains.

Regarding Cutler's brain...well...he's young and very competitive. He's been known to do more than he probably should. I remember reading about his scouting workouts where, even though QBs aren't required to do the bench press, Cutler jumped in anyway and benched 225lbs 27 times! Not bad for a non-lineman. I suppose this is part of his gunslinger, Brett Favre, attitude he brings to Denver. As a fan, I surely don't want to see him get killed in the preseason.

I can't see Oakland being better than...well anything (ok, so maybe this is the orange/blue in me speaking). I think that simply having Bailey and Bly makes Denver's defense pretty formidable...play man on man outside and put everyone else in the box. :) Just as long as we don't have to play TO 16 times a year (ok, I just threw that in for the Eldorado Sheep...mamma always told me to bring something nice when I go to other people's houses).

:welcome:

I can appreciate your love of the Cowboys, And respect your choice of the Broncos'.

When the Cowboys traded T.D to the DB I was heart broken and tried to become a fan, They also had D.Reeves as there coach as well as Charlie Waters, I loved the way D.Smith and S.Atwater played. But Alas I was a Cowboy fan through thick and thin and it was about the Star on the helmet and not the player. But I have a found appreciation for the Bronco's. I just wished you could have won a few of those SB against some of our NFC rivalries.
P.S I always thought J.Elway was better then Marino.( I know it was a huge debate back then )

Good luck this season and lets hope we get out tonight without any major injuries.

Denver should avoid the NFC East at all costs in the SB

0-3

outscored

27-10 Dallas
37/39 - 20 Giants
42 - 10 Skins

106/108 - 40

add the 55-10 murder at the hands of the Niners

and in their first 4 SBs they went 0-4

and were outscored 161/163 - 50

In all honesty, the defense carried the team for the first half of the 2006 season. Plummer lost his balls and was afraid "not to lose." We hired a "snake" and he wilted when we needed him most. I like Jake, he was the best bootleg passer in the biz, but his arm strength and decision making cost him his spot. Shanahan had been holding back on the playbook for about two years because Jake was limited by a small skillset. That's why Shanahan traded up for Cutler.
As far as the QB timing, it was the right thing to do. Our whole team withered at the end of last year, Cutler was a bright spot. If we kept Jake in for the playoffs, we would have gotten embarrased in the first round.
The experience of 5 games and huge pressure was great for Cutler, this year he understands what it is all about and is ready to go.
Changing QB's is never easy (I remember last year when Romo came in for Bledsoe and threw that pick). But, the pressure has definetely made Romo a better QB. Dallas will have to be ready with a hefty contract for Romo at the end of thhe season (I think he'll earn it).

Cutler was the smart Romo-like move. I think Shanahan followed Bill's lead.

Oakland has some decent defenders too, and if you're depending too much on Bailey and Bly, Broncos could be in some trouble this year. The one big advantage you always have is that altitude, giving Denver probably the biggest homefield advantage. With no more information right now, I'd feel much happier if the Cowboys played the Superbowl against Denver(rather than San Diego...or New England...or Indy)...you guys would be horsemeat.

Sure, I have a question. I've searched and searched, but I can't find a paperback copy of John Lynch's book, Preseason Ethics. It's a very good read from what I've heard. Could ya hook a fellow NFL fan up with a copy? :) J/K ;)

i wanna be as "understanding" as i can be - but to more or less say "you're not supposed to give a damn about pre-season" is crap.

you wanna win - it ALL MATTERS. across the board.

the whining you hear is from those less strong. it's kinda like that movie "rudy". those telling rudy to chill don't wanna win.
