Sure, I have a question. I've searched and searched, but I can't find a paperback copy of John Lynch's book, Preseason Ethics. It's a very good read from what I've heard. Could ya hook a fellow NFL fan up with a copy? :) J/K ;)

I agree, I think this comment was purely about pride. Lynch is a smart man and a proud man, and has to take this pretty hard. We got spanked on Saturday, that is very evident. My contention with my team (which I hope they get sorted out), was about reacting to the circumstances. So, what if Wade "dialed it up" against the Broncos, how do we respond? I don't think we responded very well. But i'm glad this was the preseason so the team can have a "gut check" before the actual games begin.
I think injuries were key for us, but even our backups need to respond with a little more fire if we are going to compete with the Chargers in our division.

Our O-line starters should be back by the beginning of the regular season, but the play of our MLB (DJ Williams) is the greatest concern for the team. Our defense is supposed to "funnel" the play towards the middle of the field (which it did) so the MLB can clean up and make lots of plays. DJ was just flat out bad, and when he made contact, he got knocked backwards. If DJ doesn't get his crap straight, we'll be in big trouble.

PS - I'm not here to pester anyone, I just said I would come back for a little post game feedback. After today, I'll leave you all to your season.

No need to leave. It's good to have opinions from other teams' fans, even those not from NFC East.

Good post.

I always thought Lynch was a class act so his comment was bit surprising.

Oh well, good luck with your team this season. :)

i wanna be as "understanding" as i can be - but to more or less say "you're not supposed to give a damn about pre-season" is crap.

you wanna win - it ALL MATTERS. across the board.

the whining you hear is from those less strong. it's kinda like that movie "rudy". those telling rudy to chill don't wanna win.

Dallas is looking like it will be a very strong contender this year. I think Wade is also looking at this from a unique perspective. He knows that new coaches used to get a year or two to prove themselves, but now fans and owners don't give that much leeway (look at San Diego). Even preseason games can help a head coach keep their job. Nothing wrong with going out to win, it's just a shame that so many players have to get hurt in "exhibition" games originally intended to develop new talent (and shake the rust off).

Good luck Cowboys, I hope you have a great season. Team looks solid.

2 pre-season games down, so far so good. we're hoping our draft picks pan out on the line and if so, we've got good depth there to see us through.

the injuries - that would have to worry me if i were a bronco fan. i like ekuban and hated to see him get hurt. he's not a "superstar" but he's a good solid role player and teams needs that also.

hope you stick around - objective fans of the "game" first are always more fun to talk to than team homers.

Oakland has some decent defenders too, and if you're depending too much on Bailey and Bly, Broncos could be in some trouble this year. The one big advantage you always have is that altitude, giving Denver probably the biggest homefield advantage. With no more information right now, I'd feel much happier if the Cowboys played the Superbowl against Denver(rather than San Diego...or New England...or Indy)...you guys would be horsemeat.

At this point in the game, we would be horsemeat. However, we are holding out the hope that we will be like Miami and Green Bay when Bates transitioned their D. They had a hard time picking it up in the preseason, but then both squads ended up in the top 10 defenses.

I think the altitude is overrated. NFL players are all in good shape, and Our team gets just as gassed as the visitors (from the games I have been to). I think teams with the best crowd (fan support) have the best advantage. That's why playing the Chiefs at Arrowhead in the winter has been so hard for opposing teams. They have great fans, which are very loud even in sub-freezing temps. If you ever swith to a Broncos game (when the Cowboys are not playing), watch both teams in the fourth quarter. They both look equally tired. We actually have always been a "quick starting" team under Shanahan. We jump out to a quick lead and coast. We don't usually score a lot in the fourth quarter.

A troll is someone who likes to talk trash or start fights. I am a relatively informed fan sharing insights from my team.

BTW - I grew up in Arlington, TX and was a big Cowboys fan as a kid. However, that was in the years of Landry, Dorsett, Pearson, Staubach, White (Danny and Randy), et al. Sometimes you can learn things about your own team from an objective outsider.

Dude, this is your board and I am just a visitor here, but you need to remember this is just a game and you might consider being kind to guests.

I'm not so sure that I agree with your assessment of Lynch's reaction, but it's a fair one. Good luck this season in the super (AFC) conference and don't be a stranger. Sit a spell. Kick your shoes off. Ya'll come back now, ya hear? :)

Hail no!!!:laugh1:

You say you are a visitor, but something tells me you will be sticking around for quite a while. Don't you have your own board you can be gumming up?

And just because America's Team plays the Danny Snyders twice a year, don't think you have to hang for the duration of the season.

You get a free pass for once living in Texas. Just don't say nuthin bad about America's Team. ever.:)

Sorry, our good friend, but that bolded part is a lie! Once a Cowboy fan, always a Cowboy fan! It's like that saying, something like, "if you ever do *****, you never go back"!

If you lost your love for the Cowboys, you never were a big Cowboy fan to begin with.

The pecking order goes Cowboys ... Steelers ... Niners ... Patriots

Everyone else is trying to reach that level.

:D (that should bring some anger)

If you had been a Cowboys fan from the 70's and 80's, you would have noticed a change in the team, but maybe it was a change in the NFL overall. Tom Landry was a role model and coach that I still repsect greatly. I think Staubach did a great job of maintaining integrity despite success. I'm sure there were problems with certain individuals of this era (Septien for one), but the "America's Team" of theis era was one that could be respected on an individual level.

I was still a Cowboys supporter into the Jimmy Johnson era. I still think Troy Aikman, Jay Novacek, and "Moose" Johnston are great players that stick in my mind. Somewhere the limelight changed the team in that era (in my opinion). I couldn't stomach the personal decisions that some of the players were making (Irvin, Williams, Newton, Lett). I know people aren't perfect, but the personality of the team at that time was one that didn't care about it's fans at all - it was total hedonism. If you weren't a fan then, you would copmpare it to the Bengals today, people openly joke about how much they get arrested.

That is why I stopped following the Cowboys. Not because I hated the organization, but I could no longer support the culture and many of the players. Winning just isn't everything to me if it leaves you feeling dirty.

I really think the Cowboys are rebounding now. They are a totally different organization. It just happens that I started following another team a little over a decade ago and that's who I follow. I wish nothing but the best for the "new" Cowboys.
