I'm convinced that Coach Prime is the best, last and only move for Head Coach under Jerry

I would have LMAO @ this idea not too long ago but the more I watch and read, the more I’m convinced this is the ONLY last move for Jethro.
  • Jerry is in awe of Deion like he was with Parcells.
  • All of Deion’s colleagues report that he is the Alpha in all operations he runs. This may be the last man that can control the ship Jerry built. AND he can out hype the hype master. He would know how to give Jerry what he wants and still be looked at by the players as the final authority.
  • He’s a former player. A lot of new HC from Detroit to Houston who prove the value of Ex-Player Head Coaches who can relate better with the players.
  • For those saying he doesn’t watch enough film or X and O, NFL HCs are more the CEO than a coach in the NFL these days. Something that McCarthy was not good at. Jimmy knew how to push the buttons and so does Deion.
  • Zimmer is Deion’s boy and would come back and be loyal to Deion. He worked with Prime at Jackson State and Colorado, and has a close relationship going back to Deion’s playing days. No more Garrett forced on Wade, or Kellen Moore forced on McCarthy. Deion would actually want Zimm as his DC.
  • Deion is no nonsense despite what you might think from his commercial days. Anyone who watched him at Colorado knows he is a hard*** who will bring a tight grip and not be afraid to call out players who aren’t cutting it. His first day at Colorado he told half his players they wouldn’t cut it.
  • Who knows, we may very well get some shenanigans with the draft and Hunter and Shadeur not playing for anyone but their lifelong Coach.
  • Stephen can’t recruit in free agency worth a darn. With Deion we now have someone who can convince players to sign AND convince Jethro to spend the cash in free agency.
  • Deion is ready. NFL player for several franchises. HS to small college to big time college. This is not like Witten or some of the crazy out there choices. Deion has proven at every level he can turn ships around.
  • Go watch last year’s Sounds From the Sidelines when Deion and Shadeur met with Jerry in the pre-game. There is a tight bond there. They even muted the camera while they talked. These guys were already talking business. They have a bond that no coach has had with Jerry since his former college roommate Jimmy was here.
  • Deion is fresh off the college circuit and has a team of scouts and analysts who are probably more knowledgeable of recent college players than our current crew.
  • Deion has proven he can handle the spotlight that the Dallas HC position receives. He will pushback and manipulate the media just like Parcells and Jimmy did.
It could crash and burn, but I don’t really see any other option at this point until Jethro croaks. The franchise is what it is and needs someone who can outshine, outhype and out-alpha Jethro. Coach Prime is your man.
I agree.. I think it could definitely work. Any coach they bring in can crash and burn, there's no guarantees at all.

Deion is definitely the "I must watch" type coaching hire that would bring the most attention to the franchise. I actually think he's a pretty decent coach too that players want to follow. However, does that translate in the NFL? There's also a lot of potential distractions and the hype machine may be too big to overcome.

Besides all that it makes you wonder what happens with his son? That could make this a circus and turn players off if Sanders son is just handed the QB job here. Would he replace his son if he wasn't playing well? What do you do with Dak and how does that impact the team morale? It's a very risky proposition possibly bringing prime in that's either going to destroy the team, or bring the success and swag back.

Personally I'm intrigued by all of it, but also think it would be the riskiest hire you could possibly make. However, atleast it would bring some excitement back and trying something out of the box. Whatever we've been doing for 30 years hasn't worked anyway.

May very well be the last time he hires a coach. That would get most people to thinking they'd better make it a great hire. I doubt Jerry's arrogance has ever let him pause to consider that for very long.

Then it’s Sir Coach Prime for you, pal. :)
I'll stick with what I said in another thread. One of Deion's demands will be that Jerry change the name of the team to the Dallas Primetime Cowboys.

It's "will" crash and burn.

The hype around Deion is crazy. We need a football coach, not a PR guy who can out "alpha" Jerry.

Deion turned around CU because he was able to use his popularity and connections to get a crap ton of transfers in and basically out talent most of the teams he faced. He won't have that luxury in the NFL. When he faced teams that matched or were close in talent, or well coached, they lost. They got smoked by BYU, got smoked by Nebraska, smoked by Kansas and then lost to KSU. There wasn't a CU game where you came away thinking Deion really outcoached the other guy.

This team should be looking at people like Ben Johnson, not Deion. Geezus this franchise is so warped.
Exactly.

I don't even understand why people think Deion is a good football coach, except for all the hype the networks heaped on him the last couple of years. He can't portal in 50 new players like he did at CU and he won't have two of the top five or six players in the league like he did this year... when he was barely ranked in the top 20.

Not really on board yet with this Coach Prime in Dallas thing.

Not at all.

It makes a great story, but not persuaded even a little bit that he'd be successful... ie, persuaded that what relatively limited success he's had at Jackson State and now at Colorado is mostly a result of his name and ability to attract talent.

That won't happen in NFL.

THAT said... dang, this was a great commercial, and it makes me chuckle imagining the re-make that could plausibly be somewhere in our near future... hehe...

This is an excellent supporting argument. Well stated.

Deion strikes me as the type of strong motivational coach that players will play hard for. The problem is, that only takes you so far. Reaching the next level of success requires intelligent creative schemes and strategies- and I've not yet seen that from him. As another poster alluded to, have we ever seen him actually out-coach anyone?

The same people that want Deion in Dallas are the same people that would be dogging the Eagles, Giants, or Commanders for having interest in Deion.

You only like it because the Cowboys are doing it and you feel like you are required to support anything and everything the Cowboys do or you’re not a real fan.
Or they are Spagnola's who go from "if he's so great, why is he available" to "this is the best move the Cowboys could make" in the span of 24 hours.

It's either going to work or be an epic failure. I'm ready for either. No middle ground with a Deion hire...and I'm tired of the mediocrity. Get to the Superbowl, or just collapse and go 2-15 please.

Yes. Mediocrity sucks.

Epic failure sucks.

The question is, which situation are you locked into for too long a period of time.

Give me epic failure for one season... as it appears next season is predestined to be... as long as on the other side of that, I see reason to anticipate some opportunity to significantly improve the roster.

Give me mediocrity, otherwise. Mediocrity at least gives me a puncher's chance that someone falls to me in the draft that turns out to be a difference maker, and at the same time, that the oblong ball can bounce my way a few times over the course of a season or seasons.

Applied to this specific situation... if Prime is willing to do a 3 year contract with a team option to pick up a 4th... I can accept that.

That's my max. Short-term, I'm willing to take a shot. But, probably too short-term for Deion to stomach.

Besides, I do have other options that I like just as much, if not better, if not much better.

With the right DC in the room, Kellen can be successful. Possibly even uber-successful. I believe that.

His son is seen as a player who is going to be taken before we draft, so I don't think any players will feel that he was "just handed the QB job here" if he made it to our pick and we took him. I think they would feel like players on other teams that they have a first-round QB and he's supposed to start. Now, if he wasn't playing well and Deion insisted on sticking with him, there could be some unrest in the ranks. But early on, I think players would buy in on trying to win with a first-round pick, especially since they may be split on being able to get to a Super Bowl with Dak at this point.

Prime would be our best hope of someone who can get freedom from Jerry to make his own decisions. Prime has a bigger mouth piece.

Not sure it is something Jerry truly wants, but desperately needs.
