Actually, I thought about my answer a little longer and there is really no way to blame Garrett for anything more than blowing the red flag throwing stuff. He doesn't do much else. Its only fair that if Im not giving Garrett credit for winning, then I cant blame him for the losing.
Fair enough. We can agree that you were wrong earlier.
On the challenges, the one he won was the equivalent of a turnover for us as it changed possession, so I think it makes sense not to blame him. For my part, I like the statement he made with both challenges, since each of them at essence was a questioning of the definition of what a reception is after they got jobbed so badly on the Dez play in GB last year. Make them work to be sure they have clear working definitions going forward. I'm all for that, and I think it's something the players can get behind.
You probably ought to give the offensive staff some credit, too, for their time and timeout management in the two minute drives. Pretty much textbook for how you are supposed to execute your clock management. Especially when the Superbowl winning coach on the other end of the field lost the game for his part for shortcomings in that area.
Overall, I think we had a good game plan last night. I think the team was prepared despite the fact that this was a game we could have been sandbagged in. Game 1s are always unpredictable because both teams haven't got any tape on what they want to do in the new season yet. And Giants/Cowboys games are unpredictable, period. I'll take an 11 minute (or whatever it was) opening drive any week, for example. We had them almost tripled up on time of possession at halftime, too. This was going to be a blowout if not for the turnovers. And any game at -3 TO differential is going to look pretty awful.
OP is right. We're fortunate to have a team that's gutty enough to hold on that goal line stand and to execute the two offensive drives in almost no time when we really needed it.
