No, he's a thumper too. Too stiff. He is a football player but not excatly a "coverage safety".

Louis Delmas, Sean Smith, Derek Pegues, Rashad Johnson, David Bruton.

Which is probably why you'll never get a job as an NFL scout. ;)

LOL. No, I know better than to go off the announcers word. I charted him in that game and took the time to write up his evaluation for my friend who runs a draft website.

As a Cowboy fan who is tired of seeing Roy Williams get burnt it was just a very bad omen for Mr. Chung.

I'd take Moore but I wouldn't put him at Strong, put Hamlin at Strong, Moore at Free and cut Roy. Of course, after watching Hamlin blow a few tackles, maybe he's not the answer at Strong either. I don't know that I'd spend that 2nd rounder on a safety at all though.

the safety class is quite weak, esp. for strong safety, Hamlin isn't going to be moved to strong, nor should he, there's a reason he looks and plays like a strong safety, but has never been used there, he's not very good against the run, and takes terrible angles

I'll never forget one attempt where he tried to clean up the action, but flew right over the guy

I hate that extension more and more, we have a SS trying to play FS, but we can't move him to SS, or he's even more useless

I think Smith is the only one that goes in the first round. you have to be real exceptional in order to do that. Phillips lasted all the way to the last pick of round 1 last year for the Giants. We should have a shot to get Delmas or Johnson in round 2, but we will probably need to trade up with one of those additional picks to do it. It would be well worth it though. And yeah.....lets NOT go the cheap route...that hasn't done so well in the past. Time to finally fix this problem once and for all....well at least for the next 6-8 years...

I predict there will be a safety run at the top of the round two. Smith might go in the first. Delmas won't make it to us, I am convinced of that.

We are at 51. There are at least nine teams I think could go after Delmas and Johnson. More than likely we are left with the scraps like Moore and Chung. In that case, I take Chung if I am forcing the issue.

It is not about liking Chung better. Delmas is clearly superior athletically and has a leader's mentality. Johnson is more of a true safety and extremely smart. If he's a better value than what else is there, take him. If not, pass.

We have several roads to take. We will have to get starting quality linemen (both sides of the ball) and ILB (even more scarce). Safety is but one dire need.

No way if I have Moore do I put him at free safety.

I think they should go with a lineman or ILB with the two and take Emmanuel Cook out of SC in the 3rd or 4th. DBs from SC seem to do well in the pros and he's fast, big and covers well. He's a big CB with safety and CB experience who I think will be a good pro. Hamlin may fall some as his senior year wasn't impressive. He doesn't cover as well as Cook though. His teammate is a good value pick 6 or 7.

Confession...I am a Pac 10 homer. Getting that out of the way first.

Sean Smith is the Safety I really want, but there is no way he is going to fall in the Draft. In fact, I am betting he shoots up in the Draft.

Considering Smith gone I would take Patrick Chung in a heartbeat as long as Ron Brace or Duke Robinson are not there. I feel LOS is more vital than Safety, but if they are gone I would grab this kid.

This kid plays football old school hard. He is very smart. I have seen him take great angles and cut off runners who look to be gone. I have seen him read screens and blow them up. I have seen him wrong foot guys like he is a RB when he has the ball.

I can't say enough about guys who play smart football.

I like him better than Delmas for one reason, he has played against tougher competition and proven himself a factor. I also think he could excel on Special Teams because he understands the point of attack.

I don't think Gibril Wilson would be a band aid solution at all. He's young and talented, better than any safety you could draft also. Will cost something significant though.

I don't think JJ will shell out the bucks for Wilson either.

I think we go the Draft route at Safety.

I've seen a couple of mocks with Dallas taking him.

I just don't see Smith going in the first..I'm sorry. Unless a team trades up or down I don't see any of the teams 20-32 that would take a tweener S/CB player. Look at those teams..I can only see Miami take him and I doubt they do.

Plus the Lions could pull a fast one and pick Curry #1 overall which would really shake things up.

I'd just trade up to pick 35 and not worry about it.

maybe it's time to start looking at some of the more physical CBs who are not elite at CB and move one of them to SS in the middle rounds of the draft.

Most of your college safeties weren't good enough in coverage to beat out their own teammates at CB, so except for the 1-3 elite safeties every year, maybe some of the slower, heavier CB's who are physical would be better at the pro safety position than many of the college safeties.
