I'm worried we'll regret trading Ayodele

Am I the only one that things trading away Ayodele was a bad idea? He wasn't a top linebacker, but it seems to me that he was a solid one. Presumably replacing him is Zack Thomas, Kevin Burnett, and/or Bobby Carpenter. Thomas is coming off of a season-ending concussion, Burnett hasn't done much to prove he's not injury-prone, and Carpenter hasn't shown much to make anyone believe he isn't a first round bust.

This is a position that really concerns me.

I'm concerned that we traded both Ayodel and Fasano for only a 4th round.

Frankly, I'm surprised we got anything for either of them. Too many of you are homers and thus feel Ayodele worth more then he is on the trade mart; same goes for Fasano. Cowboys aren't the only team who knows what Ayodele did/didn't do as a starter for us. Ayodele would be solid as a backup but frankly he's one of our big weaknesses on defense. He has to take some of the blame for the poor play by our secondary when it comes to QBs completing so many passes in middle of our defense. He can't play in coverage & his efforts to stop the run left much to be desired. Believe Cowboys knew he'd be unhappy here as a backup but probably in Miami he can still start -- he'll be an upgrade over anything they got now but Parcells will replace as soon as he can. He was a nice guy though and I hope he does well.

As for Fasano, he was a backup TE & never reached the level we wanted in Garrett's offense. Surprised it was Fasano who Dolphins mostly interested in & I'm glad to got their 4th since it first pick in that round. I would have liked more for both of them but I'll take whatever I can get. If Cowboys had given up a 4th for those 2, our fans would be screaming that Parcells took Jerry to the cleaners.

Share your apprehension about ILB position though. Assume Wade will give Thomas a lot of rest cause he won't want to wear him out. Also for the most part Burnett was healthy last year and frankly Burnett was outplaying Ayodele & would have won that job if Thomas wasn't brought on board. Burnett's play should improve as he learns a lot from Thomas; same goes for rest of our linebacker group. Thomas is a coach on the field; very much like Dat except with a lot more talent. I was very surprised we didn't draft an ILB like Beau Bell; he was available when we on the board with our 3rd pick. Guess Jerry just wanted to keep piling up those picks for next year. Assume Carpenter will get his chance & Wade must have some confidence in all 3 of them. I hope either Burnett whose now entering last entering of his contract and/or Carpenter really takes the next step to become a quality starter so we won't feel so bad when Thomas probably retires after 1-2 years with us.

Carp couldn't do much worse than Akin did last year if Thomas gets hurt. Zach played in a third of the games Akin did in 2007, but his stats were almost identical.

Really I don't see why we'll miss him at all.

Agreed, and Fasano seems to have had a knack for dropping crucial passes. Especially in the end zone. Wasn't much of a blocker either.

Good riddance to them both.

Ayodele was about the least important guy on our defense last year. All he did was rack up an amazing 50 something tackles on a defense where he should have been in on at least 120.

Relax.....one of the best trades we made.......this guy made very few plays for us....nothing game changing.....he was a waste of time/money

Burnett and yes...maybe even Carp will step up

Does it make you feel any better to know that they turned that pick into both RB Tashard Choice and CB Orlando Scandrick?

I'm not worried, it's about time we got something out of Bobby. He better be on the field more, and perform, this year. I'm not a fan of 1st round busts.

Great post except you left out one thing. Fassano has already had two surguries. I'm shocked we got a 4th for him and Akin.

I agree I hope he can step up but that has yet to be proven. I was all for his selection so I'm not saying this as a fan that disliked him or where he was picked but until you actually see production there is reason for concern.

thank you for this post...I have no idea why so many think either of these guys are big losses...they DO NOT make plays...they both got WAY TOO MANY SNAPS for guys who do not make plays. I think Kevin Burnett has a lot of talent and is more than ready to show the team he can handle a heavier load...and I think the team is ready to find out once and for all what they have in the guy. I remember Carl Banks came to camp a few years ago and said that Burnett was the best LBer on the team. He was never big enough for Parcells and Parcells was constantly on him to add/maintain weight....Akin was important to Parcells because he is big...Burnett is important to Wade because he can run....the ILB position on our team needed an infusion of speed and I think we can find it in-house. Let's not forget...Burnett was a 2nd round pick...so their are many in the organization that is high on this guy

I don't think you will regret the trade at all. Neither of those guys really had much value as IMPACT players. And for me that is the key.

Fasano, unfortunately maybe, never had the chance, or maybe never showed up. Most of us will never know. I wonder if Bill drafted him to replace Witten and it became apparent that was not going to be the case.
