Ware was a great 3-4 rush LB.
He was not a great 4-3 DE.

Could we use his speed when healthy....yes.
Do I miss his speed rush behind the QB opening run lanes and allowing the QB to leave the pocket...no.

Love dware and all he did for the star. What I'm looking forward to now is seeing him go at it with smith along about February

Ware has 7 sacks so far, does our entire D even have 7 at this point? We would be better with Ware

Who would I cut? The entire defense. I start with Ware and work around him. I don't try to make Ware fit with the cast of misfits we currently field along the defensive line.

Love me some D. Ware but I'll take the "cast of misfits" we currently field. They play with heart, hustle and play smart assignment football.
Best misfits I ever saw play.

BTW- I'm not sure the rest of the league thinks Spencer, McClain, Crawford, Melton are misfits...maybe we should ask the Seahawks and Giants.

Dware no longer fit out team. Over paying for older vets who completely disappear in big games isn't our style anymore. I'm glad he is gone.

I wish Dallas was in good enough salary cap position to keep Ware, but unfortunately they were not. It was a wise decision to let Ware go based on the salary cap limitations Dallas was in. If they could have made it work they would have kept him around. The guy is an all timer and I am glad he was a part of the rich Cowboys history. He plays with great heart and determination and any team and defense would greatly benefit from him being around.

Good for him. He cost too much and he was an ineffective player the last two years as a Cowboy and we are doing better without him.

what has selvie done this year?
Well for one he's playing a different position.

But he's making $680k vs. $16 million.

I don't get why people can't think that DeMarcus Ware is still a good player and that it was the right move to release him. The defense is much improved and we aren't paying him that huge contract.

Then at that point what's the difference between this team and the one that went 8-8 last year lol? All 3 of those guys were on our opening day roster.....granted, Ratliff cried his way out but those other two guys were here and we were 8-8.

Addition by subtraction. Those guys are great statistical players. But even if you replace them with inferior players....sometimes those inferior players play better with each other than players who are superior to them. A hungry team can be more deadly than a team that's lost its hunger. I think Ware has regained his hunger in Denver also it helps playing with a good supporting cast.

I think Claiborne is an example of addition by subtraction.

plenty of differences exist. The OL is better. We have a great fill in for the injured Lee, and our defensive coordinator isn't moonlighting in the Walking Dead. This team would be way better with Ware and Hatcher. Ratliff ended up being a cancer, so he might be addition by subtraction.

Ware was not worth the money... And he has already said he wants to retire a Cowboys. He's got nothing but good for the Cowboys. If he's happy, we should be for him.

Wonder what Ware thinks about the 2014 Cowboys, .. the Ware-less Cowboys, .. the Rolando McClain led Cowboys, ... being 6-1 and leading the NFL?

We are better because Ware is gone!

Doesn't mean I don't like him. I do.
Doesn't mean he isn't a good player. He is.

Moving on.

Many of the players could have been here this year, but the salary cap doesn't exist within the bubble of just one year. Keeping this team together next year with these guys still on the roster would have been impossible, even if we ended up cutting them at the end of this year. The team we have this year isn't much different from what we had last year, but it is considerably better.

I wouldn't say considerable better. Fewer sacks, and about the same yards per play. Pretty sure it's not more turnovers either. The main differences between this year and last year are 1.) Time of possession, 2.) Rob Marinelli > Monte Kiffin, 3.) Rolando McClain

Losing Demarcus Ware did not make us better in any way

I agree that he had to go, but let's not pretend we are better off without him in any way other then salary cap. A heathy Ware is better then anyone currently on our line

My problem is this - If we hadn't mismanaged the salary cap in prior years, we could have easily offered Ware a deal similar to what Denver did. His initial 2009 signing bonus was manageable for a player of his stature, $20M is not terrible amortization totals by any stretch. The base salaries in the contract from 2009-2013 never even topped $8M, so at most you were talking about a $12M natural cap hit in those years. 2014 & 2015 was where the salaries jumped up, but we could have easily restructured that deal to the same contract that Denver offered. The reason we couldn't was because we mismanaged other players salaries and had to borrow from Ware's (actually manageable) base salaries to fix messes of contracts like Hamlin, Senabaugh, Ratliff, Roy Williams, etc etc
