Imagine if you will Demarcus Ware still on this defensive line

Another it does not matter post, Ware did not want to take a pay cut; while everyone here has been screaming about overpaying ageing vets NOW the tune is changing and all of a sudden he is needed here again. They made the right decision IMO, Ware in Denver is not the same Ware in Dallas for what ever reason there is. If he stays here we are paying too much and from the past few years I doubt they would have gotten their money's worth. He is doing good in Denver because he has OTHER rushers on that team that are helping him; he is also not being asked to be a leader because he is definitely not that. Just as ROMAC is prospering here he is there but that does not make him a proper fit here any longer. This team needed to get away from him and all the Brady Gang players, they were not the same as the crop of youngsters on this team now and I do not want them to be the ones to tell them how to win. What have they done when they did have the opportunity? And as much as I can't stand Jerry it is not all his fault.

Ware, Ratliff, and Hatcher would all be nice....they have a combined 10.5 sacks on the year

LOL @ "soft"....he's now on pace for about 16 sacks.....if that's soft, I wouldn't want to be hard!

I agree, this whole thread is a joke. Ware is the best pass rusher we have had in a decade, and probably a top 3 pass rusher in the NFL over the past 7-8 years. But now he is "soft" or "a nice addition".

Our defense is playing well, but we do lack a pass rush. The Giants were able to score points and move the ball on us. They were shut out by the Eagles so they are not an offensive juggernaut. If we get to the playoffs we will need a better pass rush. If we had Ware we would be a better team.

That being said, there was no way we could keep him with his salary cap. It was the right move for us and for him.

Rather than say it's flawed why don't you expose it to be flawed.

Even with Ware for years we fielding porous defenses. This is a result of not having quality depth, and we didn't have quality depth because we overpaid for certain guys who we thought would carry our defense. When they showed up, things went great, and when they didn't... they didn't...

I didn't initially because I wanted to make sure I understood you correctly.

The logic is flawed because many of the parts you rated as a 4, would still be here even if we kept Ware. We already had Crawford, Hayden and Selvie on the roster, and I doubt they would go from being 4s to 2s, just because Ware is on the roster. It's debatable if we would've added McClain, Melton, Mincey and Spencer, but I think Spencer would've been the odd man out here, maybe Mincey as well, but Melton and McClain (I may have his name wrong, the DT, not the LB) would've been added anyway.

The opportunity to field a more complete defense not only this year but next year rather than being held hostage by Ware's salary and declining play.

Again, this is mostly conjecture. Ware's salary wouldn't have stopped us from making any of the moves we did this offseason. If anything Spencer wouldn't have been resigned and maybe Mincey wouldn't have been pursued, but cutting Ware did not create that much of an opportunity

It was a mistake letting him go.

I said in the summer that he'd have more sacks his first year in Denver than Mincey would have in his Cowboys career. He probably has already done enough to accomplish that.

He was going to count like $16m against the cap, how in the world could we absorb that? That is probably more than the two Mcclains, Melton, Mincey and Hayden combined... We can almost field an entire d-line with that money. It was not going to work for us.

Ware chose to leave. He wanted to leave the disfunction in Dallas and evidently he took a lot of the disfunction with him.

If he really valued the star and his teammates, he would have looked at his own production and given the team a chance to sign him at the level he was producing with an option to restructure for more money if he once again elevated his play. He chose money and I wouldn't be surprised if he regrets it when he lines up against Tyron Smith in Febuary.

Hard to say Denver over paid him

if you bothered to do any research you will find that on average Demarcus Ware had more plays per game then any other top pass rusher in the NFL over the last 9 years.
We never gave him much rest during the game and you wonder why he was tired in the 4th. Gee.

**** Demarcus Ware. He isn't here anymore. Go cheer for Denver Buddy!

Then at that point what's the difference between this team and the one that went 8-8 last year lol? All 3 of those guys were on our opening day roster.....granted, Ratliff cried his way out but those other two guys were here and we were 8-8.

Addition by subtraction. Those guys are great statistical players. But even if you replace them with inferior players....sometimes those inferior players play better with each other than players who are superior to them. A hungry team can be more deadly than a team that's lost its hunger. I think Ware has regained his hunger in Denver also it helps playing with a good supporting cast.

Ware got paid too much. Getting a sack is great, but they are only one element of the defense. If he would have taken the pay cut, it would have been great to have him here, but if you're getting paid like he is, you have to be a JJ Watt type level of disruption.

I didn't even have a problem with what he was getting paid. We signed him to it. Fair enough. That was his market value but the guy had less sacks than George Selvie last year. And the excuse for the past 3 years has been "Ware is hurt....wait until next season". Hopefully he's finally healthy this year. But we had a guy who was constantly suffering from nagging injurers and underachieving. You would think getting rid of a guy like that would actually give Cowboy fans some sort of satisfaction but now everyone wants to rue.......when we are sitting here at 6-1. Unbelievable lol.

Chances are, had we re-signed Hatcher and Ware this team would probably be 4-3 right now.

The league doesn't give two ***** about Demarcus Ware. He is an average pass rusher at his age period! There are better pass rushers on the Bronco's team period! He is a compliment to a Denver team but he will not be missed in Dallas at his age. For all of you Demarcus Ware fans that are calling out true Cowboys fans ask yourselves one question "who is talking about Demarcus Ware"? Yup, no one is. This team addressed the Dware issue in the draft and our guy is hurt, it is time to let the Dware issue go. I don't even want to dive into the finance issues some of you may have from overpaying on everything you own!

Ware was just playing flat out bad here. I get he had some lingering injuries but it was best for both parties. Ware is playing good in Denver with a whole new team. Good for him.

Our pass rush was so bad we had Ware on the field playing with only one arm. We didn't have anyone with two arms that could play better. I wish we still had him, but the cap hit was just too much. The guy we got to replace him hasn't even played yet, so we'll just have to be patient and see how this will all play out.

Agreed. Sick of the Ware lovefest. Go the Broncos board with that crap or something. He was pretty bad the last couple of years with us so no I don't miss him.

Many of the players could have been here this year, but the salary cap doesn't exist within the bubble of just one year. Keeping this team together next year with these guys still on the roster would have been impossible, even if we ended up cutting them at the end of this year. The team we have this year isn't much different from what we had last year, but it is considerably better.

Notice the @ philly game last year when Ware was out... we played disciplined focused run D and contained Mccoy. Ware is one of my all time fav Cowboys but he ended his career often injured and running around run contain. He's rejuvinated now and playing for a winning team where he's consistently playing with a lead. Fits right into his strengths.

This d line is better because they are hungry. Those players of old weren't hungry last year.

I wouldn't call him soft, that has a negative connotation.

It can't be denied he was probably the nicest guy in the field at any given moment. There were plenty of games we lost where I'd see him smiling and slapping hands with the opponents afterwards, I don't think the losing ever really got to him - especially since he was so good at what he did.
