I don't think I've ever seen a Cowboys fan suggest that. I've seen a ton conclude that's what's going on when posters don't join in a good pity party.

For the most part, different fans will attribute the playoff or season ending losses to different factors. Some think it's scheme. Some think it's coaching. Some think it's a lack of talent, or the influence of Jerry Jones. Just because someone might disagree with your assessment of where the problems are, it doesn't mean they don't want to win more football games.

No matter how many times I point the finger at defensive talent or the meddling of Jerry Jones, for example, I still get people trotting out that they think they just have higher standards than I do, which is hilarious. What they really mean is they want to change something that I don't think is a significant problem, and it's easier crying standards than it is to make a case for real change on the topic.

No I was told a few times that I expect too much. That I'm living in the past and it's a new game today. I'm not saying they don't want to win but it seems like they are contented. After 20 years I can't be contented and it's just frustrating. There are a lot of reasons why the Cowboys fail year after year. Everything you listed up there is part of it. It's hard watching teams like the Patriots win every year. It's hard watching teams like the Steelers pass us in SB wins. It's hard watching teams at least get to championship games no matter if they win it or not while we sit home. There just doesn't appear to be any end in sight. Hopefully getting our running game back this year will do the trick but knowing that Romo's time is ending soon sort of puts a damper on that too.

True but he caught it and it is a huge moment in SB history.

What if Russell wilson didnt get picked on the goal line. He wasn't the pats mvp.

FWIW I would happily give away SB XXX if it meant I never had to root for Deion Sanders. That started a bad trend the jones family still continues today.

Deion accelerated our demise in more ways than one. There's no doubt about it.

We passed up the Stealers before they passed us. And the Pats have both a Hall of Fame Coach and a Hall of Fame QB right now where we've got neither. Things go in cycles, and dynasties are really hard to come by.

That said, I'm aiming for Superbowls and not just conference championship games, but maybe my standards are just higher. I believe we'd be challenging for those right now if we'd managed our defensive personnel decisions better. From coaches to players.

It is why I do not accept this mediocre standard we have today.

The only reason for hope now is Romo. We've done an awful job putting a coaching staff around him.

Well they contend in a much tougher division and we contend in a mediocre division. Doesn't mean either one are going anywhere. I was pulling real hard for the Bengals last year in the playoffs against Pittsburgh and they just imploded. I never saw anything like it. I think they're cursed. Like I said 2 playoff wins and getting to a championship game would be something. 2 playoff wins in 20 years isn't much. We don't ever build off them. Romo's really been wasted here. When you have a franchise QB like him, you should do better.

I would argue that we contended two years ago, though the previous few years you are right we weren't really contending. Still two years ago we were basically an inch away from the NFC Championship Game against a team we had already beaten that year at their house, that is contending and that gives me some hope looking ahead to this year. In some ways we are starting to learn some lessons from those great teams, and have built a team that is capable of winning in the trenches... on one side of the ball (which to be fair sometimes that's all it takes, certainly 2 years ago we didn't have a great d-line). This year both scares and excites me because I see some potential on the defensive side of the ball and I have no doubt if we stay healthy our offense will be more than good enough to contend... but that is a few too many ifs to give me any sort of real confidence. Oh well... I will just say 9-7 with a chance to do better if we get a few bounces, that's what I said in 2014 and it seemed to work pretty good... until that play.

I have not and will never forget who this team once was, but thank you for reminding those that have. :star:

they actually played pretty poorly that game.

i was so looking forward to seeing them improve in 2015.

Same here, but it's hard to do that when you lose your 3 best offensive players from the year before (Dez was not Dez last year after he came back from injury). Last year was a wash, let's see if they can improve upon 2014 this year. The offense should be as good as ever, let's see how the defense performs.

There are 16 teams in a conference. If all teams were equal then there is a 1 in 16 probabilityin getting to a Super Bowl.

In their first 40 years the Cowboys went to. 8 Super Bowls. That is an average of 1 every 5 yeats.

In the past 15 years, no Super Bowls.

Which means:

Even if Jerry Jones can get the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, he will have merely satisfied the Law of Averages........something he had excelled in since their last Super Bowl.

Pretty poorly? Serious? The Cowboys?

You have a ridiculously high standard.

Truth: If Buffalo doesn't turn the ball over in both SB games, they're both 4th qtr toss ups.

This is the reason they play. This is the goal from the first moment of the off-season.

Completions and yards and touchdowns are great.
But this

Oh we were contenders 2 years ago. I thought we had a good chance to go to the Championship game. I still think we were robbed. I don't think the organization handled success well first in letting Murray go and then by the long holdout that Dez had. I know last year had a lot to do with Tony's injury but not all of it. It really did expose our lack of dept. We have some real good skill players on offense but the backups not so much. I'm not really sold on the defense. The offense is going to have to carry this team. I'm very excited to see Zeke play. I think he is a difference maker. I think we'll win the NFC East if Tony stays healthy. I'd probably say 9-7 or 10-6. Maybe it's better if I pick us to go 7-9. Last time I did that was in 2014. lol

It was one win that season. But not THE win.
I think we all noticed that much, TD. We didn't get THE win in any of the previous eighteen seasons, but we came closer to it in 2014 than in any of them. And when you consider the difference between hopes and expectations (as most people do), that becomes important.

2014 is THE biggest reason for this level of excitement about having drafted a player like Elliott.

It was a lot like the wins in previous years against the unbeaten Colts and Saints when all was said and done.
There's a big difference between 2014 and 7-10 years ago.

2016 projected offensive/defensive starters
started in 2014: 14
started in 2009: 2
started in 2006: 2

in that game? yes. they fumbled the ball away, they failed to convert two turnovers into touchdowns, they turned a forced punt with the ball at the lions' 38 yard line into a running into the kicker penalty that led to a detroit touchdown, they couldn't block for romo most of thte game, romo failed to throw the ball away and took unnecessary sacks.

they played poorly, and won.

it'll take better days than that to get to win a super bowl.
