I would argue that we contended two years ago, though the previous few years you are right we weren't really contending. Still two years ago we were basically an inch away from the NFC Championship Game against a team we had already beaten that year at their house, that is contending and that gives me some hope looking ahead to this year. In some ways we are starting to learn some lessons from those great teams, and have built a team that is capable of winning in the trenches... on one side of the ball (which to be fair sometimes that's all it takes, certainly 2 years ago we didn't have a great d-line).

in that game? yes. they fumbled the ball away, they failed to convert two turnovers into touchdowns, they turned a forced punt with the ball at the lions' 38 yard line into a running into the kicker penalty that led to a detroit touchdown, they couldn't block for romo most of thte game, romo failed to throw the ball away and took unnecessary sacks.

they played poorly, and won.

it'll take better days than that to get to win a super bowl.

I sure haven't forgot where they came from, In fact I find it sad that "fans" want to call the light
dim, because time has surpassed since we've them be that great, Nothing since those days
has come close to comparison...I'd rather watch them win a super bowl than bicker over the
dark days of mediocrity and disappointment

just my 2 cents

i saw your other posts and realized that you're just trolling.

my bad for bringing facts into the discussion.

not that i was unhappy with the win, of course, but it was a sloppy game for the most part. dallas played much better in other games that season, and that's what gave me hope for bigger things at the start of last year.

enjoy your silly rants.

Traded for the almighty dollar..........gotta SUCK for the athlete(s) that leave it on the field.

Rebuilding with sustainability is not the same as paying the almight dollar as a bribe.

Football is what is played on the field as well. Instruction has improved as to technique and applications. It still takes commitment and luck.

It was sloppy early but the team turned it around after Randle made that long run that led to the Escobar TD. Special teams came around too blocking for Harris better from that point and on into the season.

That was Seattle defense at its peak and their offense had yet to be dismantled. There were some tough yards but we ended up physically dominating the game at the end.

To this day I'm still mad about the play. It's been 22 years and I still can't bring myself to watch that game or any highlights of it. That's the only game in Cowboys' history that I can't watch replays or re-watch it. That game hurt that much.

For me, it's "The Catch" game. I can't watch it even when they replay it on NFL Network. That one really hurt. :(

It wasn't an enjoyable game at all. If not for Neil O'Donnell we would have lost.

I feel the same way. Even though we won the game, I'm really not interested in watching reruns. That game had the makings of a blowout and then we turned it into a close game.

That game was a mirror of the Cowboys season: dominant early, hit adversity at the midpoint of the season, make a play and hold the fort to extend their lead, give up some plays and fall asleep on an onside kick, and then hang on due to some good fortune.

Think of the season - they start off with a flash, and people speak of them going 16-0 (ESPN's Monday Night show had the discussion), stumble near the midpoint against the 49ers, steady the ship against the Raiders and Chiefs, fall asleep in losing to the Commanders and the Eagles, and get lucky to beat the Giants at home, and have SF lose to Atlanta to give them home field advantage. They also avoid SF in the playoffs thanks to Green Bay beating them, and since the owned the Packers, they made the Super Bowl.

I think had the Packers not beaten the Niners, San Francisco would have beaten us in the NFC Championship Game. I had little faith in Barry Switzer.

It would seem that way, but I have a feeling that the Cowboys, with home field, would have won.

Look at what happened the next season - the Cowboys went to San Francisco, and won the game by tying it late, and kicking the game winning field goal in OT. The defense really stepped up, and a lot of that was due to a favorite whipping boy who is loathed by much of the Cowboy fan base - Larry Lacewell.

Lacewell, after the embarrassment of the loss to the 49ers in November (I was at that game - in the corner of the end zone that Jerry Rice ran into on that early TD), took it upon himself to study the Niner offense throughly. He devised a new defensive game plan in terms of coverage to not allow the Niners to motion Rice to the slot to be covered by Darrin Smith or have Larry Brown rotate to a safety position. They used the game plan in 1996 after there was no need for it in the 1995 playoffs, and it worked really well.

btw. We were 12-4 just two years ago. Let's talk about that. And how we get back to that.

Instead of 4-12.

I had that feeling watching SB XXX, I didn't enjoy the game at all. It was like we were lucky to win. After the game the media talked more about Pittsburgh losing than us winning. I never thought it would be this bad though. We haven't even been to an NFC Championship Game since.

We got fortunate the 49ers lost the last week of the season giving us home field advantage. Then in the SB we were up 13-0 but should've been 21-0. Then Pittsburgh scored right before the half to make it 13-7. What looked like a blowout turned into a tight game.
Thankfully O'Donnell's INT's helped win it for us. But it seemed more like we survived than won.

After that it fell apart much faster than I expected. But poor coaching and GM decisions took it's toll quick.

Those who have lived throughout the Cowboys days of glory and have witnessed their decline aren't about to forget what this team once was.

Sorry, but it all falls on the shoulders of one person. 20 years of nothing ...
