If they lined up in jumbo, and ran that misdirection pitch to the outside again, it would probably be a walk in TD. It's worked every time they have used it, so they never use it.

That is the only play or a qb run around end that might work ok with the jumbo / 23 formation.
The Jumbo is the worst formation to use for a standard run play.
But JG loves it !!!!!!!

It's not the OL. ITS THE PLAYCALLING. When you do the same thing over and over and over, the league is quick to learn. The play calling is beyond awful. I can't tell you how many times on third down yesterday we threw the ball less than what was needed. (3rd and 9.....throw the ball 6 yards). It's MADDENING.

I was ready to shoot somebody although I knew all along there was no way we were going to win the game anyway.

My biggest concern in losing Murray was exactly this. No one to pick up tough yardage on 3rd down

But you just can't tell everyone what you're going to do on third down and still expect it to work. I mean you don't even have a threat of a pass in the the game. On another note I don't really like the five wr set with no threat of a run unless it third and long. You have to give the defense something to think about because the talent is so close in the nfl.

Man I watched the steelers yesterday and what they do on offense is just amazing. All three wrs, the rbs, and the te are legitimate threats on any given play.

By the way Dez is my favorite player in the league but Brown is a better wr right now, much better.

Common sense should tell you that when your in the Jumbo formation that your lining up 11 defenders against 9 offenseive players. The QB and RB are not picking up blockers therefor putting your line at a severe disadvantage. The QB is turning around and handing the ball to the RB who is 5 yards deep. DUH!

We do not have a great line nor do we have a bowling ball running back. Granted the line could possibly win a 1 on 1 match up so why not spread the offense and then run either a QB sneak (a la Brady) or take your chances with your RB after you have removed the CB and safeties out of the stack.
Short yardage is more than just 3rd and 1. It's 3rd or 4th down and 1-2 yards to go, as well as any down from the 1 or 2 yard lines. So if you only look at 3rd and 1, you're leaving out about half the team's short-yardage runs this season. Here's every short-yardage run we've executed this year without Romo. (We converted 2 of 2 with Romo).

Up until the last two games, what we'd been doing was successful. It helped us lead the NFL in time of possession, in fact. But we were relying too much on the ability of the OL to win the down, and we've failed the last four times. Without Romo, in short yardage, we've run 23 times and passed only 7 times. That's 77% run, and no other team is as high as 70%.

Defenses have taken notice of this tendency. Don't expect to see much more green unless we get really creative.

the analysis should focus on 3rd and 4th down only.
