They need better WRs but it's not as bad as that stat looks. The

I'm not going to do the entire league but here are two productive offenses this year to compare.

Buffalo
Diggs 108-1429-11
Other WRs 117-1645-13

Minnesota
Jefferson 128-1809-8
Other WRs 147-1649-13

Nobody would accuse either of those teams of having no WR depth.

The Cowboys need to improve but when you have an alpha WR getting 100 plus catches, you throw to the TE a lot and you want to have a running game there simply aren't enough footballs to go around.
The bills were literally signing dudes off the street but yeah I will give you Minnesota. Jefferson is a beast.

1992 Cowboys:
Irvin, 78 catches for 1396 yards and 7 TD

Every other Cowboys wide receiver combined: 67 catches for 921 yards and 7 TD

How was Aikman able to win in the playoffs with that lack of depth at WR??
He had one of the best lines ever and the the NFL's all time leading rusher. Hell, Larry Allen could take one two guys by himself.

Look at the playoffs.
It works both ways. Both phases help each other. It’s not one picking up the slack for the other. We could talk stats all day, but that team was much more and it started at the QB position!

Was just about to do something like this to see if this was something rare or happens pretty frequently. It's just like when people ran with that "no holding calls against Cowboys opponents for 8 games on passing downs only" cherrypicked Tweet as some gargantuan travesty of justice, I actually ran the numbers and found the Lions had a streak of 7 games that very same season. Stats in a vacuum rarely tell the whole story. Vet everything. Especially random Twitter posts.

Most INTs by far were when Shultz and Brown were targeted, with Gallup right behind them. 2 when Ceedee was targeted came much earlier in the season. He and Dak seemed to have much better communication later.

No separation shocking.
Facts. Puts to bed such false accusations that Dak only targeted CeeDee and how that is what led to his 1 WR target interceptions.

We run into the problem every year of having too many positions we need to upgrade and fix. With our poor use of FA, that means we have to hit big on multiple picks.

Using this year as a point of reference, we hit big on our first-round pick (starting LT) and hit rotationally with our second and fourth picks, but failed miserably on our third pick as far as first-year contributions.

We just can't count on making our weak areas into strengths by only using draft picks and cheap free agents. We may get lucky with a late-round pick like we did with Bland, but you are also going to have misses like Joseph and Wright. Or get lucky on a cheap free agent like Kearse, but miss on others like Washington.
They treat every draft as if every pick is going to pan out, and also be able to play immediately.

They are about due to bust a first rounder anyway, and picking for need in every round will end up biting them before long as well.

If they want to win, they will be more active in FA…..the early part. If they still think what they’ve been doing works, well that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Immaterial. Point is the 1992 Cowboys had a clear #1 and some serviceable others to fill in the gaps.

Just like this year's team
Alvin Harper was clearly the #2 and was a good receiver for us. And then you had TE Jay Novacek. Nobody on this current team comes close to them.

Weird here is SF excluding their #1. Very similar and yet they are still playing:
106 catches
1301 yards
4 tds
and THIS is supposed to be our problem, not the guy losing post season games with terrible throws and decisions? Yeah - let's waste more picks giving him more weapons he will squander.

It starts with Jerry Jones and works down from there

He also had the wall and a dude named Emmitt!
And the 3rd best TE in the league named Jay Novacek...and the #1 FB in the league named Daryl "Moose" Johnston.

You're exactly right. Aikman had top league weapons around him aside from Michael Irvin. It's frustrating how some other posters INTENTIONALLY leave that out since it would destroy their argument.

Some guy in Cleveland caught 78 passes for 1,160 yards and 9 TDs.
not here in 21 did he?? that shows CD was clearly better both in 21 and 22..so? as a 2 what would he have been? we saw that in 21 and 22 mil for 900-yard receiver is ridiculous. never been an issue with coops talent , His $$$$ and we are having clear 1 to take his place cheaper is the NFL., its business. CAN we stop with the coop noise already its clear why we let him go and its still the right thing to do.you can not pay a #2 22mil..

Sad just sad. I knew this would be a issue going into the season. We have lamb and a bunch of Jags. Still can't believe they gave Gallup that contract after his injury. But u hand out dumb contracts and you hurt the team building. Paying Zeke that money when he still had a year left on his contract. Just dumb deals. Both of those guys look like jags this season. I am willing to give Gallup another look next season due to the injury he suffered before signing the contract. Maybe he will hopefully look like a number 2 guy.
But did you know that we would still finish with B2B 12win seasons and make the 2nd round??

No you didn't, you were one of the bunch with similar take on the offseason, FA, saying we would be 8-9 or worse than dak going down saying no way we would get to 7 wins..

Ironic all this i knew it nonsense with continued negativity and hate on here after our last loss, It doesn't include how we have won more games in the last 2 regular seasons, than any team in the NFL. Somehow with all these allegedly bad deals and bad moves we are still a top 6 team in the league. Crazy huh...?;)

right lets blow it up we are desperate.

and yes
Gallup will be better with a full TC and 18 months removed from acl surgery, I cant guarantee it but my gut says he will be a lot more effective this coming season.

Cowboys made the right call on Amari Cooper.
The Cowboys made the wrong call on replacing his production.

Amari was not worth the 16M cap hit here.

We lost to SF with him and without him so crying on how he changes that result is juit goofy.

But Dallas rode hard for Schultz and Gallup and those 2 bombed.
Injuries left both underperforming almost weekly.
And Dak loves them but also tossed a high % if INTs targeting them.
Gallup looks flat out scared to be targeted.
He's running nothing down the field where he made his hay.
And he routinely gives up on routes making Dak look like an idiot for throwing it to him.

Schultz is a good player but he was maybe 75% most of his season and might have sat more if we had a true back up and he wasn't facing UFA.
Dallas trued to rebuild on the fly and it is tough to pull off.
I am sure Ferguson and Hendershot will be good but they weren't ready this year.
The WR corps just fell totally apart after CeeDee.
Noah is a blocker that can be targeted when ignored but thats about it.

Jalen Tolbert might be R1's most disappointing rookie.
Dallas needed him badly and he couldn't do a single thing.
