Ok so lets pretend we let Dez walk. We have T will, who can only body catch. Cole B who can only run quick short routes. A bunch of unproven WR's

Witten who is aging. Romo who now has back problems, aging and needs all the pressure taken off him with the run game. Well the run game is now no longer existent because teams do not fear our receivers.

Yup 2-3 wins a season sounds good. At least we will get top 5 picks

Yes.

Dez was 13th in the league in receiving yards last year. Keep in mind, that was only about 190 yards from #5 AJ Green.

However, he was 2nd among WRs in TDs with 13.
I realize TDs fluctuate more than yards from year to year and are less predictable, but 13 TDs is a ton.

I think he is a top WR and hopefully his game will only get better. What I'm saying Jerry once told Irvin and Emmitt if you want to be paid as the best you need to play as the best and they did. This is not a knock on Dez but maybe more of a knock on Jones and needing to get back to that way of doing business.

So you think Jones should play hardball with the one player who's actually earned a big payday through production, is the one superstar of our team, and is just entering his prime?

Sure seems like there's a double standard when it comes to Dez with some of our fans.

The one player? The one superstar? Besides being clueless about football, are you also his agent? Just because Jerry has handed out some bad contracts doesn't mean that everyone on the team is a bum. Dez is going to be rich no matter what he gets, I'm not sure why some of you are so obsessed with Dez making top 5 money. It benefits the team if they get him for a good number. He's not going anywhere.

I would not say hardball, I think Dez should be signed to a big contract with incentives that would put him in the top 5. There is no double standard but it does seem as if we have paid out big money to players who did not play to the level of pay.

Yes he's the superstar of this team. When we get out if this rut, it will be with Dez at the forefront.

What do those other guys we overpaid have to do with Dez getting what he deserves?

Barring some type of catastrophic injury, I don't think we have to worry about Dez not playing up to just about any level of pay. The guy is good. Like damn near unstoppable good. And he's only getting better.

Does he deserve top 5 money when he did not finish in the top 5? He was 13th in yards and 8th in receptions. I think Dez should get a be paid accordingly and even suggested that he get paid more should he or I should say when he breaks into the top 5 or better.

and I adjust for that given an incentive to boost what will likely be a big contract to begin with. I think he likely will be paid around 10 to 12 mill a year but I sure as hell do not see him making the 16 mill of Calvin johnson

It's all the same to me man... 12 mil... 14 mil... all I'm saying is just a couple of things:

1. He is one of the best 5 WR's in the game right now, regardless of if he was top 5 in catches. Or top 5 in receiving yards. Or top 5 in TD's. Plain and simple, there are only about 2 or so WR's in the league that I would take over him, and frankly I'm not sure that I would take anyone over him. I absolutely love his game. His passion for football. He is just a naturally strong guy who bullies DB's. His hands are the best in the game right now and since I've been a football fan, I think I've seen two guys with hands as good as Dez's: Jerry Rice and Randy Moss. Off the top of my head, those are the only two guys who belong in the same sentence when talking about pure catching ability.

So, while he might not be top 5 at this point in every WR category... football sense says there aren't 5 guys better than him in the whole of the NFL. Speaking for myself, I absolutely consider him a top 5 WR.

and...

2. There is no way in Hades that Dallas lets Dez hit the open market. No way. He will retire a Dallas Cowboy. The franchise and all its players love Dez, and Bryant absolutely loves the Cowboys. He loves the team and his team mates, and he loves the franchise and its owner. He will be a marquee player for Dallas until he decides to hang 'em up.

I can't imagine the Cowboys saying he's not a top 5 WR.

These are people who fall over their own feet to over pay players.

If only there was an option to sign players from other teams or draft them out of college.

Jerry will pay top dollar to Dez no doubt

"Deserve" had got nothing to do with it

Something to keep in mind: 2007 colts were the only recent SB winner that you could even argue had a top 5 WR

So I guess it depends on what your goal is

Dez is def one of the better WRs in the league and was the heart of the offense. But he has to realize that there is a salary cap and a lot of guys need to get paid. If he wants top 5 money, it might be time to start looking elsewhere. Romo is getting 17m, which is in the low range for a franchise QB.

I agree.
Dez is one of my favorites, but I always say to people who want to pay a WR almost franchise QB money..."when is the last time a SB winning team had a top 5 WR?"

Most teams use 3 WRs at one time very often, so the position is diluted.

Sure hope we keep him without breaking the bank though.
