I have been noticing something rather interesting the past couple of days.

Seems like most of the anti-Gattett crowd LOVES this draft while most of tho pro-Garrett really HATES this draft

Don't really know why, just something I noticed. Maybe the pro-Garrett crowd spent so much time arguing that we didn't need to pay Murray because RBs are not important and then they see the team burn a top 5 pick on a RB.

They can't logically explain the apparent contradiction so they hate the pick.........I don't know, just something I noticed

If true, that's really ironic.

I'm not really in a huge pro or anti Garret camp, but
  • Garrett (and maybe Romo) was THE strongest supporter of keeping Murray
  • Garrett was possibly the turning point for Dallas selecting Zeke too. 7 hours of film study he came out and said he really likes Ramsey but loved Zeke..and to take him.

The thing is I don't hate the draft. Loved what we did in round 3-6. I can appreciate the risk we took in round 2. I abhor the value we got in round 1.

But I generally really like all the players.

I also am fine with JG. He gets much more negaitivity than is warranted when you consider the sorry state of this roster he took over.

I am anti-Garrett and the draft is a big yawner to me.

They took a TB at 4 and they didn't need to IMO.

And I love Smith but that's a massive risk at 34.

Tapper might be my favorite pick of the entire draft.

Actually Murray is a good back, but not good enough and not worth the cap.
His weakness' include fumbling, moderate burst/speed.
Zeke is the complete back - minimal fumbling, good burst, good speed, and good blocking.

Murray is good enough to get records behind the OL.
But not good enough to win the big one.
Who cares about records if you cannot win the big one.
This is the Cowboys, not some other team...
There is nothing worse than getting 90% there but not getting to the finish line.
Rather start over earlier than get locked into the cap space.

If we had Zeke in 2014, we might have won it all.

I don't love it or hate it, and don't know why we have to divide ourselves that way. There are other ways Dallas could have gone with it, but the most important thing to me was for the team to come away with an impact player at the top of the draft. It seems that the Cowboys did that, although I could have lived with the choice being Ramsey. (My choice, Bosa, was gone.)

I see the value in taking Smith, but I could also have lived with the risk being taken on Jack or even Spence.

It seems sometimes that we have to pick a side even when there's not really a good reason to do it.

I have heard that there was a tie in the War Room....and Jerry broke the tie. Was the tie between Garrett, Jerry and Stephen? Or Garrett, Jerry and McClay?

Funny you say that, I resemble that remark.

Not a big JG fan at all. Didn't like him being so pass happy (Or timing of his play calling in general) and also didn't like his player development. Didn't think he was a good game day coach, but I do like his overall leadership qualities. Players seem to love him.

I liked this draft, but I'm a gambler at heart too.

I'm not sure if he literally broke a tie, but the scouts had Ramsey slightly higher grade wise but the coaches preferred Elliott.

I don't understand people's gripe with the "value" of Elliott at 4. I would rather have a perennial All-Pro RB (Zeke) over a perennial All-Pro S (Ramsey), and Elliott has a far better chance of reaching his ceiling than Ramsey does.

I'd rather have a perennial All-Pro S paired with a very good TB than a perennial all pro- TB and we keep trotting out the likes of Church and/or Wilcox at S.

Garrett loved Zeke. You can tell Cowboys were entertaining a trade until Garrett waved it off in the warm room

They passed on a really low offer by the ravens. The standard value chart difference from 4 to 6 was 200 pts and the 4th round pick the ravens offered was around 90 something.

I don't hate the draft, I actually really liked it. I just disagree with the value of picking Zeke at #4, but I do recognize his talent.

I jumped off the ReBall Express last year when I realized Garrett could not coach a team under adverse circumstances. This is his make-or-break year.

Concerning the draft, I am neither excited nor disillusioned. Smith being the exception, it was a solid draft, IMO.

I am very anti-garrett and I love pretty much everything 3rd round and up. Don't agree with Zeke + Jaylon, maybe Zeke + Jack to go all in on win now mode I'd be fine with. Ramsey + Jaylon or Jack are what I'd prefer.

I think you've just got a faulty assumption there, Beast. I 'hated' the first two picks for us, given the circumstances. Didn't love the 3rd rounder (a bit of a reach), but liked all of the day three picks. And that's entirely consistent with everything I've said all along. Overinvesting in the RB position with this OL and with so many defensive needs is a mistake. Taking a big risk in the 2nd with so many defensive needs and players there who could help immediately was a mistake.

It doesn't surprise me that the anti-Garrett crowd likes the picks. First of all, there's a huge anti-Garrett crowd. Secondly, there's probably a correlation between 'people who prefer to trust their gut and think stats are for paste-eathers' and 'people who like smash mouth football.' Those posters love to see the running game get better. The fact that it has to happen at the expense of a mediocre defense doesn't matter. Now, I'm not sure why *that's* the case, because those same people tend to argue that 'defense wins championships,' but we've seen over and over again on this board that it doesn't, so it's no surprise to see it being a relative non-factor in examining the draft.
