I have been noticing something rather interesting the past couple of days.

Seems like most of the anti-Gattett crowd LOVES this draft while most of tho pro-Garrett really HATES this draft

Don't really know why, just something I noticed. Maybe the pro-Garrett crowd spent so much time arguing that we didn't need to pay Murray because RBs are not important and then they see the team burn a top 5 pick on a RB.

They can't logically explain the apparent contradiction so they hate the pick.........I don't know, just something I noticed

I don't know Gattett, but I am a Garrett fan. I like this draft, mainly for what it brings down the road. I don't expect much benefit until McFadden's contract runs out, and McClain as well. Then we have their replacements ready to go.

As far as this season goes, I am not sure we gained anything. I don't see that Elliott will bring much more than we have with DMC, but a slight gain is probably there.

This draft is all about 2017 and beyond. It was a smart draft, not a flashy one. I am sure than Garrett will get none of the credit for it, either.

I don't understand people's gripe with the "value" of Elliott at 4. I would rather have a perennial All-Pro RB (Zeke) over a perennial All-Pro S (Ramsey), and Elliott has a far better chance of reaching his ceiling than Ramsey does.

Thing is, that was the line of McFadden coming out of school. He was the best in a decade. He finally lived up to it last season. I believe he was never in the right system till he came here. Another great season would have required Murray money to keep him. That is a dead issue now, and I expect he is fast becoming trade bait.

I jumped off the ReBall Express last year when I realized Garrett could not coach a team under adverse circumstances. This is his make-or-break year.

Concerning the draft, I am neither excited nor disillusioned. Smith being the exception, it was a solid draft, IMO.

No one could have coached a winning season out of last year. No one!

The thing is I don't hate the draft. Loved what we did in round 3-6. I can appreciate the risk we took in round 2. I abhor the value we got in round 1.

But I generally really like all the players.

I also am fine with JG. He gets much more negaitivity than is warranted when you consider the sorry state of this roster he took over.

You mean the roster that went 13-3 half a year before Garrett took over? That "sorry" roster?

You sound like a reasonable person about this.

I'm just trying to be factual and your statement was so confusing

If the "sorry" team Garrett took over did not go 13-3 the previous season please let me know. No reasonable fan in his right mind would even consider making that statement

In hindsight, it's ridiculous that we choose to throw money at GHardy as opposed to resign DMurray, but at the end of the day, Murray is now 28 and Elliott is 20 and given the options at #4, I like the way it turned out.

I will always believe DMurray earned and deserved a second contract but EE has abilities that he doesn't have.

I just think that it s funny that one year later they use the 4th overall and pay 6m+ to a RB.

It is....but it's 9-10 million per year the next 4 years.
My point was that people have taken the cheapness too far at the RB position.

I know the line is a huge part..but when a situational run stuffing DT cost 4-5 million per year and people act like a RB who will have the ball in his hands 15 times per game and protect our aging $20 million QB the other plays isn't worth any more than that.

I think the 9-10 million per year will be adjusted next year.
Crawford is a 3 that is key for the defense, responsible for pass rush etc and not just run stuffing.
That is critical if he does his job.

If we kept Murray, we may not have been able to afford Hardy.
We all are down on Hardy now, but he was supposed to be the final piece that everyone was excited about last year.
Remember the nascar formation?
We were trying for the super bowl and priorities had to be set.
That meant Hardy or some other free agent that could become available.

If Murray was a more complete back (less fumble, more burst), I think they may have been willing to pay more.

I am glad we did not keep Murray.
With our OL, I want someone better who can make the offense absolutely dominant.
Murray is 90% of that back, but his flaws may limit us to 90% to the superbowl - not acceptable for the Cowboys.

I would much rather having Zeke than Murray.
With Murray, there would be no Zeke.
It is too bad Romo got hurt, but Murray may not have been able to prevent that.

Romo is healthy this year.
He is probably not any more fragile because of last year's injury.
Lets hope he stays healthy.

I'm not disputing the Murray earned a second contract, just not the one signed by Philly. I think Dallas played hard ball offering him 4 mil per season, believing that the RB market had changed that much and when they were willing to go up, it was too late. If we could have had Murray for 6 mil or so, then we should have. But with the benefit of hindsight (not his results in Philly, which I blame on Chip) I like how we came out.

I have heard that there was a tie in the War Room....and Jerry broke the tie. Was the tie between Garrett, Jerry and Stephen? Or Garrett, Jerry and McClay?

I haven't heard this. It sounds like invented drama to me. The Cowboys knew who they wanted at #4, or at least they should have. There should have been no debate over priority of who we were going to pick.

The OP got the 2 sides mislabeled. It's not pro or anti Garrett that has divided the board.

It's the Murray/ Peterson (high priced) RB vs RB on the cheap camps.

The anti RB sides have forced themselves to love Ramsey because so many people were talking Zeke up pre draft.
These people have spent so much time and energy bashing the running back position and fighting with people who still value running backs that they are now angry because it turns out the front office doesn't agree with them as much as they thought they did.

There have been several of these debates on the year since Murray left. Some people have really built up the anti RB identy around here.

I am not going to name anybody, but there are certain posters that have preached that "pass differential, both passing better and stopping the other team from passing" is the end all, be all, when it comes to what determines who wins and loses and the running game is just not that important.

Then the team burns a top 4 pick on a RB and they are kinda left with egg on their face . Now the news comes out from Peter King's article that it was Garrett that "liked" Ramsey but "LOVED" Zeke after watching every snap of each player over a 7 hour period. So it was Garrett that was jumping up and down on the table for Zeke.

So either Garrett is an idiot and dosent realize that "passing efficiency" is all that matters and he just wasted a pick on a RB or maybe the team values RB and the ground game and thinks this "passing efficiency" talk is just a bunch of bs.

I hated the guy for the longest time, the 12-4 season bought him some time, I don't blame last year on him, but he needs to win the division this year.
