I was listening to Spags and Broaddus a few minutes ago. Broaddus said he "had a feeling" the Cowboys would have no problem letting D. Irving go if another team offered a second round pick. I don't always agree with him but have to acknowledge he has obvious connections in the building. I was surprised by this as I have only heard the Cowboys were counting on him to be a big part of this defense moving forward. I personally want to keep him as I don't want to see the Nick Hadens of this world on this roster anymore. Stephen Jones said recently the D line was a high priority going into the draft. I wonder if there is some negative behind the scenes stuff regarding Irving we don't know?
Broaddus does not get that type of inside info. He is just guessing.

He said numerous times one offseason that Marinelli was going to Tampa the following season. People believed he was getting inside info. He was obviously wrong.

They will have to pay him big money after next season. If someone gives up a 2nd for him, the Cowboys would get the money not spent on Irving AND the pick. It's not a bad deal for the Cowboys. They could use the money on a legit 1tech and still have the pick. Collins natural position is 3tech.

Would Jimmy cut him? Think Leon Lett and his importance to their championship defenses.

That kind of depends. If it's 1992 then probably. If Jimmy is coaching 2018 then probably not.

For the first time we cultivate a decent pass rush and now we want to let it go for a Jerry Jones gamble pick? Watch us let Irving go and draft a guy in the 2nd with an injury history and then franchise Lawrence and he walks the next year.
Or you can take that 2nd round pick for Irving to move up in round 1 and pick up a guy like Fitzpatrick from Alabama. And you still have your original second round pick.

I would be ok with that.

Could it be his talent is not worth the headache nor the long-term investment? I've often wondered.

ive been saying for a while and in multiple threads that the Cowboys should tender DI for a first and try to flip him. I think it's less likely now but you never know.

Practice squad player -> potential first rounder

I stand by it almost every time.

IF this is true it tells me at this time, they're not sure about giving him a long-term deal 2019. All talent in the world but how serious is he about becoming an elite player?

This likely has everything to do with turning a practice squad signing into a 2nd round pick is good business and Irving may not be the type of guy they want to invest big money and long years into.
If they let him walk it’s about the man not the player. The guy can take over a game but if there are other issues then I could see the logic

I agree with this.........the man isn't worth the POTENTIAL player

Irving is nothing but a CUPCAKE player not surprised by the comments that they would get rid of him. Get in their and play.

Jerry is probably the most forgiving, loyal guys in the league. If he is willing to part with Irving—-I’m worried.

Interesting. I think Irving has maturity issues that may be a negative. He seems to be a bit of a flake.

But he is very talented. And has shown to be a difference maker at times. I would keep him and hope the other stuff eventually goes away.

If you are getting a second rounder for him, it better be a high one. As in top 40.

What maturity issues are those?

I've always thought that 3-4 DE would be his best position in the NFL. If I were the Broncos, I'd seriously consider giving up a 2nd for him. He probably wouldn't mind living in Denver either
