Interesting info on D. Irving from B. Broaddus

You think Irving would be a hypothetical, top ten pick today. I don't think any team would give a 2nd rd pick for a suspended, concussed, and one year remaining under contract. And we watch the same games. That is what makes discussing football so interesting.

Let me know what responses you imagine from GMs with a top ten pick in this year's draft. Hey, GM, how about you trade me your top ten pick in the draft and I will give you Irving. Straight up. What do you say?:lmao:

My point is talent wise he's worth that. If he was a college player today he would be a top 10 pick. He's a freak! The off field stuff is minuscule with him anyway. He took a banned supplement from what I read.

Irving is nothing but a CUPCAKE player not surprised by the comments that they would get rid of him. Get in their and play.

Seriously? He is in the concussion protocol and hasn’t been cleared by doctors yet. He’s not even ALLOWED to play until the doctors clear him.

I was listening to Spags and Broaddus a few minutes ago. Broaddus said he "had a feeling" the Cowboys would have no problem letting D. Irving go if another team offered a second round pick. I don't always agree with him but have to acknowledge he has obvious connections in the building. I was surprised by this as I have only heard the Cowboys were counting on him to be a big part of this defense moving forward. I personally want to keep him as I don't want to see the Nick Hadens of this world on this roster anymore. Stephen Jones said recently the D line was a high priority going into the draft. I wonder if there is some negative behind the scenes stuff regarding Irving we don't know?

i presume he is randomly tested currently?

He and Lawrence are the only guys on the D-line that folks have to worry about. Nothing less then a 2nd round, but I'm guessing there are teams that will be in the playoffs that would give up a second round pick all day long. Imagine him on the Panthers replacing Julias Peppers.

You can't play both him and Collins inside because neither are run stuffers. Makes sense if they have no inclination to play Irving outside.

I think Irving was forced to play inside when Pea retired. IMO he should be playing RDE.

Interesting. I think Irving has maturity issues that may be a negative. He seems to be a bit of a flake.

But he is very talented. And has shown to be a difference maker at times. I would keep him and hope the other stuff eventually goes away.

If you are getting a second rounder for him, it better be a high one. As in top 40.

And your analysis is based on what?
Whenever I seen him in interviews, he comes across very mature and sensible.

Don’t listen to Broaddus. Most of the time from past history he is wrong IMO. He sways his own opinion by his agenda and try’s to push it to the fans as facts.

Broaddus does not get that type of inside info. He is just guessing.

He said numerous times one offseason that Marinelli was going to Tampa the following season. People believed he was getting inside info. He was obviously wrong.

They will have to pay him big money after next season. If someone gives up a 2nd for him, the Cowboys would get the money not spent on Irving AND the pick. It's not a bad deal for the Cowboys. They could use the money on a legit 1tech and still have the pick. Collins natural position is 3tech.

As long as they don’t waste that pick. At least in Irving they know he can be productive. I rather they pay him and know what they have. And with 10 picks they can still use one to get a player needed elsewhere at the lower cost and be in the same situation or better player wise.

Definitely something to be considered.

The other issue is whether they will sign Irving long term after 2018. If not, then it's definitely better to get the pick.

If Irving was unrestricted after this season and had been healthy all season, he would likely get 12M+ per on a long term contact and that might be a low estimate. Sacks = $$$. The best 1tech in the NFL (Snacks) is just getting 9.2M per because he does not rack up sack numbers.

If I could get Snacks and a 2nd round pick instead of keeping Irving and signing him long term, I would take that all day, every day and twice on Sundays.

He is a knuckledhead with suspension and concussion problems.

As tantalizing as his talent is, trading him for a top 50 pick would be a no brainer (if this were any other front office that valued those picks).

Why is he a knucklehead?
His suspension was form a product he was promoting that had a substance the NFL did not approve of. Yes he should have checked with the NFL. But he didn’t. Most would not. It was a mistake anyone could make.
Concussion problems...then all teams should move on from players after a concussion?

Not saying we shouldn’t take the top 50 pick if that is what it comes to, but it could be the 64 pick too.
And it is not that they don’t value the picks. But do you trust this FO would use it wisely?
We could end up losing Irving AND wasting the pick.

This team needs all the pash rushers they can get. IMO unless Irving wants stupid money, he should be resigned. If not then a 2nd rd tender and make him earn the bigger contract.

If you have ever heard him speak, he is very shy or has trouble with his thoughts. He could be accused of being very dumb but I doubt that. He is just different and not a social guy unless you are his friend, I would assume. He is not as bad as Leon Lett was but he is just a different kind of dude.

If the Cowboys are serious about s scenario BB describes, that serves to telegraph our draft-Dline and Dline.
Lett was the same way
Don’t care if he can talk
Can he play? Yes
Can he stay out of trouble Is the only question

Actually as much as people want to protest, it's not the dumbest move this team could make.

For one, he's one test from a 10 game suspension. His concussion issues is another flag to me. He's a quality interior DL, but not someone that I think is so elite that we can't let him go at any price.

I won't fault them for matching any offer, but I won't fault them if they take a first or second round pick for him depending on the tender they offer.

What trouble has he been in?
Suspended once
The next one wipes out a season
If they really are considering moving on it’s sure not about talent. He can be a dominate player so either it’s something with him or concerned they can’t sign him
Then again it could just be fake news lol
