To use against Skins fans when they say "Gibbs is holding Jason back, he won't let him throw the ball"...

Thus far in his NFL career, Campbell has thrown more than 30 passes in 8 different games... the Skins are 0-8 in those games, averaging exactly 17 points per game... Campbell has completed 58.1 per cent of his passes in those games, for a rather lousy 6.0 yards per attempt... his quarterback rating in those games is 81.8...

Maybe Gibbs isn't so foolish after all... I know I wouldn't mind if he had Jason throw the ball 40 times a game the rest of the season... :D

All I'll ask, playing Devil's advocate, is whether that's the consequence of Jason playing poorly, or just that Joe Gibbs doesn't pass until he's way behind. An 80 passer rating isn't a bad rating. Until Tony came along, Dallas would have begged for a rating that high in the 21st century.

The Skins have found their Quincy Carter. We all know how that turns out.

The NEXT HC for Washington WILL NOT keep Campbell for more than one... that is because he will need atleast one year to find another QB.

whats interesting to me is yesterday was almost a record number of attempts against the cowboys.

Campbell threw 54 times..

the most passes attempted ever agains the cowboys is 56 by warren moon in 1991.....Ironically Mark Rypien threw the ball 54 times against us november 22, 1990.

Jason Campbell in my opinion has been playing good the last 2 games, but HE hasnt showed the glimpses of greatness yet. So He doesnt really scare me. He's pretty average I would say, strong arm, good medium passes, but lacks the short and deep ball consistancy.

All this crap about the coaches holding JC back is BS...What they tell Him to not play good every game?...Come on, JC is just going out there and playing, he's had 1 maybe two games where he has shined and a ton of mediocre average at best games..

No need to worry about this guy..

You need to watch a little closer. I am sorry but I have watched every game he has played. He has the potential to be outstanding. He can throw the deep ball as well as anyone, he is getting better with his accuracy on the intermediate routes and he throws the out routes with all the zip and accuracy you could want.

He has one of the best arms in the league. It looks like he is throwing a mini football when you see him live.

I have been impressed with him on tv, after watching him in person yesterday I am extremely impressed, as soon as this coaching staff hits the road he should be allowed to throw the ball a little more and I think he is going to get better and better.

I am glad, its more fun when Dallas and Washington have good quarterbacks and for the first time in over a decade they both do. It was like 1983 in their yesterday good qb play by both guys..It was a great game.

Which is pretty much what happened yesterday, Campbell racked up a lot of stats after the Skins fell behind 28-16... your point has some legitimacy...

Still, after 8 games, it starts to look like a cause and effect relationship, doesn't it??

An 80 passer rating isn't a bad rating. Until Tony came along, Dallas would have begged for a rating that high in the 21st century.

An 80 passer rating isn't good, either... this week, a rating of 81.8 would rank you 18th in the league...

Naw, he's a cross between Quincy and Patrick Ramsey...

That's my theory too; if the Skins miss the playoffs, I expect that Gibbs will hang it up... the next head coach will probably not be as sold on Jason Campbell as Gibbs was...

Still looks like kerry collins to me. Big and Strong, Rocket Arm, struggles with accuracy on shorter stuff from time to time and will make a big mistake in crucial moments.

He is young and I expect him to get better and better. He is going to be there for years and him and romo are going to provide the fans with some exciting games just like yesterday.

What are you guys basing this on? I've heard nothing but good things from neutral football talking heads about JC. All the former QBs on ESPN ( who knows a lot more about football than anyone on this board) really really like JC.

Cant see how you can look at this guy throw the ball and not at least say he has potential

That's very interesting, Theebs.

I had no idea he was so close to setting that record against us.

Gibbs definitely changed up the gameplan against us this week!

It's difficult to believe that anyone who watched yesterday's game wasn't very, very impressed with Jason Campbell.

Some of you are difficult to impress. :)

I base it on what I see in the games, combined with what I see on the stats sheet... no matter what those netural talking head are saying, the statistical truth is that Campbell's numbers rank him in the middle of the pack, or somewhat below, in every category... the best thing he does is not throw a lot of ints, but he does seem to fumble the ball with some regularity...

I look at the guy throw the ball, and I see a guy who's not particularly accurate... he doesn't hurt teams with the deep ball... I'll grant you that his receivers are not particularly good, and that his offensive line is banged up, but ultimately, the guy's a sub-.500 quarterback, and when his team asks him to throw the ball often (more than 30 times a game), they have lost EVERY TIME... 8 games with 30+ attempts, 8 losses... the Skins scored 17 points per game in those 8 games...

Bottom line, with Campbell as their starter this year, the Skins currently rank 22nd in passing offense... they're also 22nd in completion percentage, a hair under 60 per cent... that's a direct reflection on how he's played... at this point, Jason Campbell is not a top 20 QB in the NFL, period...

If Skins fans are satisfied with that, good for them... if Cowboys fans are intimidated by that, WHY??

Or some of you are too easy... I'd suggest that if you give any NFL starting QB 54 passes in a game, he's gonna go for well over 300 on you...

Well, maybe not Rex Grossman, LOL...

Sweet! A Commanders troll in our midst! 4 posts and all about how good JC is.

How does it feel that your pathetic franchise lost again and, despite consistently having the highest payroll, you continue to be a spare franchise?

~~~~~~
To the underlying issue: there is a difference between an average/good QB in this league and a great/franchise QB in this league. And it really comes down to that intangible "it" factor.
JC does not have the "it" factor. He won't be their QB in 5 years.
I wasn't impressed by the 54 passes. I was impressed by Campbell's accomplishments against a very good Dallas team.
The Cowboys had just won two consecutive NFC East road games, including a double digit victory over their only legitimate division challenger. They had all the momentum--a fact made evident by Tony Romo and Terrell Owens' complete evisceration of the Commander secondary.
The Skins' defense was a nonfactor for almost the entire second half, and their ground game mustered a paltry 62 yards.
Yet, despite those glaring deficiencies, the Skins found themselves within five points of the Cowboys standing on the Dallas 30 yard line with less than 2 minutes to play...all because of Jason Campbell. He was the impetus for the entire Commander team, the primary driver.
What can I say?
I was impressed.
