I agree on Ware . I disagree with Spencer 5 million ? Why honestly Selvie is a better player at this point . Release ware , don't sign Spencer and just hit good on two DL in the draft .

I agree. If Spencer checks out maybe a 1 year deal for 2 to 3 mill with incentives to make more, say double digits in sacks

If he checks out medically, he is more in line with what Bennett got last year which is a one year $5M deal. I still would not do it, simply because I do not trust our abilities to evaluate injured players. At all.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones says the team is "getting the lay of the land" with DeMarcus Ware's contract.

The same is true of Miles Austin. "Obviously, DeMarcus had a hell of a career, but when we’re in the cap situation that we’re in and obviously counting as much as he is obviously you have to look at it along with several others," Jones admitted.

Sure looks like Stephen is talking in the past tense pertaining to Ware's career. DeMarcus HAD a hell of a career? Interesting.

BUT Stephen could also be blowing smoke or trying to use a little more leverage on Ware. Maybe I'm just cynical but I don't trust everything I hear coming out of Valley Ranch.

Mumble, mumble--can't prove that--mumble, mumble--Dr. Broaddus--mumble.
Mumble, mumble--can't prove that (my client Anthony Spencer doesn't have an offer of $5M/yr from numerous teams)--mumble, mumble--Spencer's agent--mumble

I didn't realize this was a court of law and I had to prove anything. I guess you didn't see my part about "I guess.."
30-some year old coming off microfracture surgery who still can't walk without a limp, let alone run, is out of shape, hasn't played football close to two years come camp time. Might not be ready for camp. One good year in a contract year. Yeah, mumble mumble ... Let's give him $5M for a year. Sounds like a plan:cool:

Continue on with your mumbling and hallucinating about Spencer getting serious coin this year.

I always lean towards the cheaper side but you may be right and 5 would be in line for a 1 year deal but if not mistaken wasn't Water deal 3 mill? No doubt medical evaluation and clearance is a must

Fact of the matter is, a perfectly healthy Spencer commands that. But he is not even close. Even if you dismiss the evaluations of Dr. Broaddus. If someone cannot walk, I might just think they were struggling a little bit.

That's interesting, Stephen.

Hey, with the "cap situation that we're in", do we also have to look at the guy running our cap?

Just promise me you'll talk to yourself in the mirror.

This cap thing is dumb luck. Could have happened to anyone.

Right now not sure what to think about Spencer medical situation. I don't know what the recovery time and expected rehab time. As for pay again I tend to lean more to the cheaper side, wish Jerry did as well. Maybe the best move is to let him check the FA market and make counter offer if it is in a range Cowboys can deal with.

Well he surely doesnt have a hell of a career in front of him

Not sure what the prob with everybody is on this subject.

They have already paid Ware for his past production with his current deal..

..we thank you, DeMarcus.

We as fans always believed in you.

But we have a small problem now.

we are bankrupt against the cap by 10's of millions of dollars.

And up until now..you've had a good ride and you probably have some great years ahead in the NFL.

But..it can't be in Dallas going forward unless you are willing to reduce you contract to one more in line with your CURRENT contributions.

You understand that..right?

Good.

So are we in agreement we can redo your deal before the draft so we can plan accordingly assuming you want to retire a Cowboy?

Or should we clean out your locker and leave it over by the whirlpool where you spend most of your time these days?

Which is it?

This is what is newsworthy. Not that Ware's career is coming to a close, but that the Cowboys "cap genius" is tacitly admitting that the cowboys have a "cap situation."

Seems a long ways, at least for him, from the "always makes me chuckle," comment he made a couple of offseasons ago:

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4690891/cowboys-not-worried-about-cap-penalties

At some point you have to pay the fiddler, you cant just keep kicking the can down the road forever.....................we have reached that point apparently.

I think with Ware, Stephen Jones is making it pretty clear that he is not going to be kept at his current cap number of like $12 million.

Unless Ware takes a paycut (how much of a paycut is the real tricky part of negotiations), Ware is going to be released.

Ware's comments about "needing players beside me" kinda indicates to me that Ware knows he will have to take a pay cut to stay as well.

At this point its all just guessing so who knows.

Nail on head. nobody made his dad pay a QB that has won nothing 108 million dollars. so don't blame Ware Stephen Jones. blame yourself.

**DISCLAIMER - NOT TRYING TO START A ROMO SIDETRACK**

It is not the Romo contract that is killing things. Not everyone can draft a Russell Wilson or Colin Kaepernick and have it pan out.

What is killing things is the fact that we gave Austin big money off of one year (and got cap slapped), paid a finished Ratliff and the various million here, million there contracts to all ranges across the roster, from the Hamlins and the Sensabaughs down to the dregs like the Hurds, Proctors, McCrays and Costas.

Our dead money lesson that should have registered back in the early days of the system still has not sunk in, even after you would think that the younger, non-senile Jones, should have learned.

everything associated with the cap has been treated like a flesh wound by these imbeciles the last few years. they act like everything is under control when in reality we are in a position where we have to beg our players for money back for the 2nd year in a row....sad and embarrassing.
