How about the veteran minimum (~800k) + 250k per sack?

What player has ever signed a contract on those kind of terms?

Not to mention the fact I think it is out of CBA parameters.

I agree with the majority. Unless Ware is willing to take a significant pay cut the smart move would be to part ways.

Personally I'm in favor of extreme changes. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cowboys move on from Romo, Witten, Austin, Ware and Spencer. I know that's not a popular opinion but I just don't see the need in hanging on to over-priced aging vets.

If the Cowboys couldn't come close to winning when those players were young and playing at their peak I just don't think it's realistic to expect them to compete for a title going forward. They're old (in football years), they're battling the injury bug, and they are eating up a large bit of cap space.

Obviously moving on from those players means that the Cowboys will likely take a step back but I'd rather start the rebuilding process now instead of sticking with the status quo that yields nothing more than 7 or 8 wins and tons of empty promises by Jerry, Jason and the players.

Ware will have a monster season...

Unless he takes a pay cut, it wont be here.................................pretty obvious at this point we are not going to keep him for $12 million.

I think $7 or $8 million max is what we are going to offer..................Ware can accept it or be released...............his choice.

Ware has had the same neck, shoulder relate issues for awhile. He had surgery last off-season. It's obvious that this training staff sucks to the point that they couldn't correct what was probably foreseeable issues down the road from happening. I hardly doubt Ware gets fully healthy and has a monster year, unless Ware has gotten better trainers and specialists.

I don't think that is a fair deal for Spencer. While I tend to go cheap as mentioned I still have a sense of fairness both for the player and the team.

Dont talk to me about fairness and spencer. How fair was it last year that he made 10 million and never stepped onto the field basically? How do you balance that into what a fair offer would be now for a guy that is hobbling around and cant even WALK? The guys is done. I dont think he will ever be a productive football player again and I doubt he ever plays again period. So what is a fair offer for a player with that prognosis? Lets see what kind of offers he gets from any other team.

OK, 800k + 500k per sack. That's 5.8M for 10 sacks.

Spencer did not ask to get hurt, you really think he wanted to go through the micofracture procedure? Yeah looks real fun. As for my ideal of fairness it he is medically clear I don't think giving him a contract close to what Brian Waters got last year is out of the question.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones says the team is "getting the lay of the land" with DeMarcus Ware's contract.

The same is true of Miles Austin. "Obviously, DeMarcus had a hell of a career, but when we’re in the cap situation that we’re in and obviously counting as much as he is obviously you have to look at it along with several others," Jones admitted.

Sure looks like Stephen is talking in the past tense pertaining to Ware's career. DeMarcus HAD a hell of a career? Interesting.

Think what the Patriots would do in similar circumstances.....Think Richard Seymour, Lawyer Malloy, Verble, Welker and the list goes on and on.... You let it go and build your team with the next soldier, end of statement. Demarcus was never the intimidator or chaos maker that Charles Haley was. Demarcus liked to beat the snap count and got caught many times for off sides, he had no real power moves always relying on his quickness instead. He is one of the most over-hyped defensive linemen in Cowboys history. Give me Randy White, Bob Lilly, Harvey Martin, Ed Jones, Jim Jeffcoat every time over Demarcus.

Ware has had marginal producers on the line with him and he still still garnered 15+ sacks despite a steady stream of chips and double teams. Haley was great but teams would focus on him and he would disappear despite having Tolbert and Jeffcoat opposite him. The 92 and 93 seasons were successful because we won but he was not overly productive.

News flash Spencer has bad knees and had them before we franchised him. We are fortunate we don't have a long term expensive deal on him. Unless he signs for vet min with incentives, with a full pass physical before that, I'm not interested.

Well..maybe true.

But Ware was the great experiment for Parcells and his 3-4.

He was supposed to be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor.

It's not his fault he wasn't that.

I'd like him to stay, measure his snaps and really..

rather than DE..

I like to see him go back to LBer for us..maybe the weakside LBer.

Then they could flip flop him with the strongside LBer for pass rushing ..

..or insert him in obvious passing downs and have a 5-2 front.

The point would be, get him behind the DL and protect him a bit and let him roam as needed.

And then draft a LBer this year to play MLBer and move Lee to strongside LBer.

I think then you have a formidable LBer set to support the front 7.

So draft me a LBer and a safety to help the Defense, please?

The Cowboys have informed agent Jordan Woy that they want Jason Hatcher and Anthony Spencer to return in 2014; Will let market dictate offer

Ahem. Knew that Spencer would be back, but I'm surprised about Hatcher.

Market dictate offer is the key here.....................we are not going to set the market, we are going to see what the going rate is for a 32 yr old DT and a guy coming off microfracture.
