It is just smart to have options for trades prepped before the picking starts. Gotta be pretty hectic no matter what. This way you can plan out your strategies in advance. Then comes the decisive 15 minutes....

I think he's suppose to be flying. Hence the "Flies to the ball" part under the pic.

Hope this isnt a repost, the guy at the ranch who posted it has about 200+ posts and is an "insider" so I don't think its just malicious garbage. Since were all waiting for the real deal to go on this one is a real good time killer just to dwell on until draft day.

DALLAS CLOSE TO TRADING OUT OF 18...DETAILS HERE!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all, I wouldn't post anything like this if it didn't have legs. A real good friend of mine, fellow cowboy supporter, and current NFL scout called me this morning with the following details:

Over the last 4 days, cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Coach Bill Parcells have been working hard on a potential trade involving the number 18 overall pick in this year's draft. My friend tells me that since last Friday morning, he can CONFIRM that the Cowboys have come into contact with the Buccaneers, Chiefs,Jets and the Jaguars about the possibility of swapping draft picks.

He then went on to tell me that a successful trade scenario is contingent on the likes of Santonio Holmes, Ernie Simms, and/or Manny Lawson being on the board at 18. He also went on to say that a friend of his that currently works as assistant public relations director for the Jacksonville Jaguars told him that if Florida State OLB Ernie Simms is still on the board at #18, then there is ALREADY a deal in place that would involve Dallas and Jacksonville exchanging Draft Picks.

Now I haven't been a fan of Trading out of 18, but I am slowly growing on to this idea. And I trust my friend's informations and take it as truth with little to no skepticism. Of course I don't expect you all to do the same, but as I said I wouldn't waste my time typing hot air. Over the last 2 months nearly a million posts have been dedicated to a trade scenario moving dallas out of the #18 spot........

You guys may finally get what you want.

This is so stupid. The fact they wrote Dallas and Jacksonville already have a deal in place is flat-out lying. No team in their right mind would make a deal like that four days before the draft. How does Dallas know who is going to be on the board at 18? What if they love Jay Cutler and he slides to 18? They still make the deal with Jacksonville because Ernie Sims is on the board? Give me a break. How does this guy get people to pay for this garbage.

Maybe Hos doesn't like Carpenter and that was his way of calling him a floaty? :p:

I was about to point out that the Commanders did it last year, but then I read the "in their right mind" part and decided against it.

I agree 100%. No team in their right mind would make that trade 4 days before the draft. However, teams often set up trades and agree on compensation, but only pull the trigger on the trade if the targeted player is available to the team trading up (the intelligent way, aka NOT the Dan Snyder way).

If we want Carpenter, we had better stick at 18 and take him.

This talk that he will be available late in the round is pure rubbish.

There are five legitimate first round linebackers and more teams that want them:

Wimberly
Lawson
Carpenter
Greenway
Sims

I am pretty convinced now there will be a run on the linebackers once Cleveland takes Wimberly or Lawson. I don't believe they will have change at Ngata or Bunkley. That leaves one LB for them. Then you have San Diego and San Francisco, New England right behind us that would probably take another if we don't plus Jacksonville later in the round. I also wouldn't rule out Philadelphia, Minnesota or Miami taking one ahead of us.

The only reasonable scenario with us trading down is that we have designs on another linebacker very late (Howard) or don't have designs on any at all and are looking for a defensive back.

I think AJ Hawk is a lagit 1st round graded LB.

It's not a deal written in stone. It's a contingency plan that teams make prior to the draft. There isn't enough time to call around and make deals with the clock running. So, teams call around and set up fictional senarios, so that if it actually happens, the deal is already in place.

So if he gets drafted, his new Zone nickname should be "Floaty Carpenter"

I luv it Rack... I dare someone to do it better. :laugh1:

Everybody seems to be so convinced that it's going to be a LB we're targeting. I am not so certain. If we did trade down to this area of the draft, OT, OG, TE, NT, Center or DB could all be targets.

Nick Mangold, Eric Winston, Leonard Pope, Davin Joseph, Gabe Watson, Allan, McNeil, Hill, Cromartie or maybe even a guy like White. Any of these guys would theoretically be available to go at 28.

Very possible, although I think the Eagles may take Mangold... I think Cromartie will be gone too...

The rest are highly likely!

I bet you anything it's not true. Teams call around all the time but they don't ever have anything set in stone like that. That's all media hype that fans eat up with a spoon. A million things can happen on draft day before the 18th pick. My guess is Jacksonville likes a couple more players in this draft besides Ernie Sims. This is just a lie to get subscribers. This is the best time for a guy like that to fool the public because anyone can make stories up about the draft. Then if he hits 1-out-of-100, he says he told you so. Plus, he knows some fans will bye any rumor he floats out there right now. Come on, don't fall into this guy's trap. Like the Cowboys and Jags are telling people about a trade they made. These war rooms are so secret they're like the Pentagon this time of year. I know, I have one down the hall from me and I couldn't tell you who they are going to draft if my life depended on it. I know teams call around all the time but my point is this isn't true and I think most intelligent people on this board agree with that assessment.

I agree I think there are many options for the Cowboys in this draft.
