iPhone 4 or HTC Thunderbolt?

I am upgrading phones a couple weeks, I have a blackberry storm at the moment and I am upgrading. I heard the iPhone 5 will be coming out around September so I'm wondering if its worth it to buy an iPhone 4 in May, and the new version comes out a few months later.

Do the iPhones really change that much from version to version? I have Verizon, so the only other elite type of phone they have is the HTC Thunderbolt, similar to the EVO but newer and I cant get an EVO lol

Well, the HTC Thunderbolt is a really good phone and so is the iPhone 4. Considering it appears that you're in the Dallas area, you'll have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network if you get the Thunderbolt. To me, that'd make the decision pretty easy.

However, keep in mind, the Thunderbolt doesn't have very good battery life. The iPhone 4, on the other hand, is really good in that department. I guess it depends on how much you'll be using it everyday and whether you'll have easy access to charge it.

I switched to Verizon from AT&T for the iPhone 4 (I've been an iPhone user for a while now) and I absolutely love it.

I think he was talking about battery life if you are just using it as a phone and not spending most of the time on it playing games.

I can go days without playing a game or listening to the ipod on it and the battery is still good.

If I play games or use other apps the battery drains pretty quickly.

Battery life is not a problem unless you in a position that you can't be around a computer or an electrical outlet anyway.

I have a spare USB cord that I use at work. So if I want to listen to the ipod on my phone or a podcast on my tunein Radio app...I just plug my phone into my computer with the usb cord and don't have to worry about the battery life.

I could do the same if I am at home but away from my computer and want to play games...I could use the usb cord with the electrical jack and plug it in.

I imagine there are some jacks that you could use in your car to charge it.

I have used the USB cord with the electric jack/plug while in a waiting room when I took the wife to a DRs appt. Just sat close to where an electrical outlet was and plugged it in...played some games while I waited.

So again...a lot of times the battery life span is not that big of a deal. Now for people that are on planes a great deal or out in areas with no electrical outlets and so on it can be different.

To the OPs question.

Find some consumer review sites or even some sites of average bloggers. Many have done tests where they compare the good and the bad between different smart phones.

You can find out which has better this or that and decide which areas are more important to you.

You can also ask a friend that has one or the other to let you mess with their phone for a few minutes, have them show you some stuff on it. Or try them out at a dealership. You might find that you just like the feel or look of one over the other while the other factors are pretty close.

Then of course you might just get a better deal with one or other and that might sway you.

You might have some come in here and bestow the greatness of one over the other or tell you how one is evil because the company or owner and blah blah blah.

But find some online comparison reviews, figure out which features are more important to you, go hold them in your hand to get the feel and actually looks of each one and figure out which one you like better.

In the end I think you probably would be happy with either one.

Go to Verizon and check them both out. Asking someone else will get their opinion when it's your opinion that counts! :)

I had IT team beta test both the iphone and the Thunderbolt because we needed to have a better option than the Blackberrys we were using in the field to access our corporate portal.

The Thunderbolt worked better with some of the applications we were already using (Like outlook etc). We decided on the Thunderbolt and we are going to have all the Blackberrys replaced next week with those.

Oh yeah, we are on the Verizon network.

I compared the Iphone 4 and my HTC Inspire for a solid week.

I chose the Inspire because of the bigger screen and the Android platform.

Still love it.

There are consistent rumors that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen. Also, it will be a major upgrade in hardware (RAM and processing power). All in all, if you're someone that cares about having the latest tech, then it's absolutely worth the wait. If you want the "elite" phone, waiting on the iPhone 5 will be your best bet. It may actually be announced in June, so you may not even have to wait until the fall. No one knows at this point.

If you use the internet quite a bit or watch a lot of videos I would go with Thunderbolt or wait for the iPhone5. The 4g is so much faster then 3g it is amazing.

By all means, don't buy a phone because of RUMOR of an iPhone5 version, that def will not be out before fall 2011. ;)

Access to Verizon's LTE network? Why even ask? :D

This is a no brainer. HTC Thunderbolt all the way!

I would love to have access to that phone and network. :laugh2:

Verizon will be here in Anchorage at the end of the year. They are immediately launching the LTE network on arrival. One of my offices recently closed numerous land offerings to Verizon for offices and towers around the state.

Alaska needs this competition in the WORST way. There is a company here (GCI) which has pretty much monopolized the entire cable industry and broadband. Nobody can compete w/ them for NET speed, and they charge you our the BOOTAY for access to it.

Sucks

Thanks for all of the answers, appreciate it. The battery life isn't a huge factor because I always have it on charge in my truck, over night and when I'm at work I might use it to text but usually its not even in use.

The screen is huge on the HTC, more so than the iPhone. I really don't know what the LTE network is, shows how much I know about that kind of thing but I am in the internet, using apps A LOT along with texting so it looks like the Thunderbolt is a lot faster. I looked up some reviews, comparison videos and the speed tests weren't even close. I'll check them out at the Verizon store today to get a feel for both.

I was told that you don't leave your phone on the charger. Only charge it when needed. It ruins the battery. I don't know if it's true of all phones but the HTC Hero I had terrible battery life.

It is true, but there are some phones that actually stop the charging process once it is full. My wife has the new Sidekick (Android based) and it tells her to remove it from the battery. On the other hand, my Nexus One appears to just stop charging once it hits 100%.

Yeah mine stops charging once its full but its never full, only in the morning. I just went to check them out and they said they are getting some new HTC phones in a month or so and iPhone 5 in the fall. Their only LTE network is the Thunderbolt at this time, the Thunderbolt looks pretty amazing visually but the iPhone is slightly easier to use.

Stop w/ that iphone easier to use BS. Android phones are NOT hard to use. The UI is similar AND you get muchhhhhh more system access once rooted.

Stop acting like these Android phones are your old 1905 VCR w/ the blinking clock light.

Call me crazy but I love full control of all of my devices. Having a vendor limit me in anything relating to my device, drives me insane.

I guess supporting this stuff really hasn't ever been an issue for me, personally.
