IPhone vs. Samsung

Is that true of their DSLRs too? If so, it would be a good reason for me to stick with Canon. It would be a shame because Nikon has done some great stuff with off-camera flash.

It's always been DSLR parts as who fixes the cheap one-shot cameras?

From what I've read now, after the MASSIVE blacklash. Nikon will now sell "select" repair parts, but not all.

Quote form this article:

The good news is that now, in a half-hearted step back, Nikon has started selling select (read: extremely limited) repair parts direct to consumers online through the Nikon Parts Store.
Yeah no, Nikon can still EAD. I will stick with Canon cameras.

No gps to track you. Best part.
True. But the downfall is IF your in a car accident and laying on an embankment with a broken leg, the police would be able to track you EVEN though you can't reach your cell phone. Having a tracking device does more good then harm, especially for emergency situations. Plus, you can always REMOVE your battery if you wish not to be tracked. Turning off the GPS won't help, you have to remove the battery if you do not wish to be tracked. I watch too much CSI. :muttley:

So I decided to go with the Samsung S8. Pretty slick phone so far though I am missing some of the iOS features I was use to. They both have thier good and bad. I just felt it was time for some change.

Is its battery removable. One of my pet peeves is a phone whose battery you're stuck with because it can't be changed out. Fortunately, my Note 4 has a changeable battery, and I did replace it with a better one. Plus, I can charge the old battery and keep on me as a spare.

Nope, it is not. I think a lot of manufacturers are heading that direction too.

I've had both. No big differences. Have iPhone now because of convenience more than anything. I don't do anything crazy with my phone. Take some pics. Twitter. Online. A few apps I actually use (MyFitnessPal and Garmin Connect). Texts and occassionally phone calls. I'm probably not the best test case.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to share, after having some time to experience the phone, I'm absolutely loving my Samsung Galaxy S8. Fantastic phone in numerous ways. The camera/screen resolution are top notch. The OS has been flawless for me and insanely customisable. Just a great overall device. I have no problems with iPhones, great phone as well, but I wouldn't even consider going back. Just my 2 cents.

Glad you enjoy your phone and the android exp.

I was hoping that would be the case and not like my wife he got it and did not like it so she switched back.

People should like what they get and when they switch sometimes whether from apple to andorid or the reverse...they are taking a chance that it might not work out for them.

So it is nice when it does.

Congrats.

The wife and I are due for an upgrade. I think I will go with the S8+....it seems to be about the same size as my Note 4 and the new note coming out soon looks to be a little bigger. I don't think I would want a phone any bigger than my note 4 is.

She is waiting for the new Apple phones to come out so we will probably get them at the same time and maybe by that time the new Note will be out and the S8+ will be a little cheaper.

I steer people away from Samsung Android phones. While some of their customization are cool, most are bug riddled and trash. Not to mention they are non-standard which means when you switch phones. You're likely to lose it disrupting your expected experience.

Pure vanilla Android is the way to go and the best place to get that is straight from Google.
you could also root the phone and install anything you like

Maybe a little longer by maybe 1/8" and a little skinner, basically more screen less bezel but pretty much the same size.

I switched from Note4 to Zenfone3 Delux to S8+

Truth be told, I almost did as well. I didn't care for the phone my first day and thought I made a big mistake. I considered going back and getting the iPhone7. I think we all become creatures of habit and often hate change. I pushed through my initial feelings and by day 2 was in love with the phone.

I am so glad you like the S8 so much. Coming from an iPhone veteran, that is a huge compliment to the android world. :) I love my S5, but if I could afford it, I would get the S8 in a heartbeat. I am in love with that phone, from everything I have seen about it. :)

I heard that there is a lot of unneeded stock Samsung apps that you can't remove and that the bixby button on the left can't be deactivated/reassigned...are those things true?

Samsung apps are not that bad better than provider bloatware. Every phone I have owned had some type of manufacturer bloatware. As for the Bixby button that is tru for now but it seems that early beta versions have a form of Bixby that I do not. For me the Bixby is useless for the most part.

You can shut down most bloatware in your settings.

Or you can get an app or apps that will give you the ability to shut them down ...like

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en

Bloatware is not as bad as it used to be anyway. It is one of those things that people use as a con that really is not bad. Most times you never have to worry about it and with the phones coming with larger storage sizes now it is not as intrusive to your storage size as they used to be.

I like Samsung due to the Note/pen.

Comes in handy when at meetings.
Hopefully the new one doesn't explode as I'm looking to update my old, but reliable Note 5

I like iOS more and have multiple apple products (macbook pro, airpods) so and it all integrates very well with the iPhone. I tried the Samsung Galaxy 8/8 plus in store and it was a very good phone with a very good display, but it wasn't enough to pull me away.

I started off with Android in the beginning with the HTC Evo and Samsung Epic.

I liked the IPhone when I had it but the storage inflexibility was my big deciding factor. My work requires me to open things like floorplans or large drawings sometimes and when you have to decide what gets erased it gets annoying after a week.

Or when you have to delete a bunch of files because of an IOS update.

Have had that happened on friends Iphones many times.
