We're talking about RETIRING a number!! NOBODY's number is retired here.

Do you honestly believe Romo has a shot at it?

A better question would be the Ring of Honor, since I don't think the Cowboys retire jerseys or numbers.........but even then, if Danny White isn't in the Ring of Honor, I don't see why Romo ought to be (and I am one of Romo's most consistent defenders/supporters on this message board.)

Jerry & company made 2 huge mistakes this off season. Franchising Spencer and extending Romo. Screw the salary cap flexibility. They should of just bit the bullet and let this year play out..

I've been very critical of Romo in the past, but the game IS NOT too big for him.
I just feel Romo's entire career has been mismanaged.
We've never put a great offensive line around him.
We've never really given him a running game, and when we did, we really didn't feature it.
We never really managed his Farvian qualities, and now when we're trying to do it, it's almost too late.
I should correct myself and say we did have one season where we put everything around him to succeed, and that season we got summarily bounced by the Giants.
I hope I'm wrong, but I fear this team will be mediocre for a long time.
And I feel because of bad management, we've wasted the careers of Romo, Witten and Ware.
As for Johnny Manziel, I'd be willing to take a chance on him. No one knows for sure who's going to be a great quarterback in this draft class. But I'd be more willing to take a chance on Manziel's intangibles.
Here's the thing though: I don't know whether he can thrive in Dallas. Jerry will try to market him, and I just don't know if Dallas would be a good place for Manziel to be.
Maybe with a more disciplined franchise like the Patriots. But Dallas? I think there's a complacency, a laziness, an entertainment-mindset here that wouldn't be conducive to a Johnny Manziel.

Agree, with your Romo comments.. Romo always got a little of this and a little of that... nothing that was a game changer. He could of changed that and demanded protection but its not his style....he is a non-confrontational type (nothing wrong with that). As for Johnny football, he wont be around when the Cowboys draft and will not be capable of sitting and watching for 2-3 years as a backup...he is to in-mature at this point in his football career.. One heck of a NCAA QB and is a blast to watch but so was Tebow........

Look like a lot of QB prospects coming next year.
Should Dallas use a 1st rounder for Romo's eventual replacement. I believe it will benefit the QB to sit at least a year like Aaron Rogers before playing.

what do you think? Who would you like to pick?

they just signed him to a long term extension so anyone they pick is going to have to sit at least 3 or 4 years so using a first rounder is ridiculous. I'd wait and see what Alex Tanney turn into in the next 2 years (2015) and see if he progressed enough to possibly be a starter 2 years from then (2017)... If you don't like what you see with Tanney in 2 years taking a Quarterback that you can develop in another 2 years time would probably be you're best bet but Romo is going to be the Quarterback for this football team the next 4 seasons at least barring injury. But if anything I'd take a quarterback in the 3rd or 4th round of the 2015 draft and give him a few years to develop behind Romo or use a first round pick in the 2016 or 2017 draft and give him 1 or 2 years behind Romo, way too early to be looking for the guys replacement when he signed a 108 million dollar contract in this past off season.

he's going to be better than Tebow but I'm not 100% sure he is a first round pick this year, Bridgewater (louisville) is the only lock to be a first round pick as a QB this year an will definitely be the first QB taken. But I agree Manziel isn't mature enough to sit behind someone for 2 or 3 years without causing problems. It's going to be interesting how it plays out with his draft status because the Browns and Jags both need a QB I just don't know for sure Johnny "football" is viewed as the second best QB prospect in this draft, either way Dallas doesnt take a QB for a couple more years

“Although we’ve just signed Romo, there’s a time when you start at quarterback, preparing for the future,” Jones explained. “We can’t talk about, I’m forbidden, from league rules of talking at all about an undrafted player, a player that still has eligibility. That has as much to do with your competitive aspect of other teams not liking that. In other words, what are you doing? Are you trying to recruit? Are you getting ahead of things?"

If Manziel is available anywhere near where we pick and we don't move heaven and earth to get him, we are ********. Guy is electric and for the second straight year, light years above any other player in college football. Cocky...yes...but, dang he's that good.
That said, I'm not sure Murray and McCarron shouldn't be our pick also if either is available. Not that I've totally given up on Romo, he's pretty good, but its time to get our next guy in here and there are a few pretty good ones coming out this year. Hopefully Tahj Boyd and Bridgewater will distract other QB drafting teams away from the good ones.
The way Murray is playing (and I've been a huge proponent), the RB from UGA (Gurly?) may be another "should be" pick in the second.
Otherwise, all picks should be OL and DL.

Yes you've got me there. If by carried you mean having much worse stats than in the regular season and that includes a 77 passer rating. 8-10 record.

Um, next I guess is a clever thing to say so
Next.

I wish Romo could get to 8 playoff wins and a SB birth.

we will see, I'm not buying it if we make the playoffs or get close to making the playoffs again and then take a qb with our first pick that usn't going to help us for 3 or 4 years, and they can't cut Romo without it being a cap disaster, if he wanted an upgrade at quarterback then he should have not extended Romo. Drafting a quaterback in the first rd would be a waste

Spencer - who knows. It is only for one year. We still have at least 14 games to go.

Romo - who did you want to play QB after Romo? Do you trade a bunch of picks to get what you hope to be a franchise QB with the top 1 or 2 picks? If you choose wrong, you have screwed the franchise for God only knows how long.

Romo was already under contract for more years I believe. A couple more 8&8 seasons a lot more heads gonna be cut.
