Is anyone else happy about our free agent losses?

I'm good with it, except for Leary but that was too much $$$

Given the comp that we will likely get, I would have traded each straight up for the draft picks .

Outside of Leary, they are all JAGs who got embarrassed by Rogers in the playoffs...............don't lose any sleep fellas

I am pretty much. Obviously it would've been nice to keep Leary but it was probably smart to let him go and roll with the cheaper, younger OG with the higher ceiling.

The defensive losses weren't anything special yet. You could argue that McClain was our best D-lineman early last year, but he fell off later in the season and has had a history of injuries. I'd like to see us add another stud DT to pair with Maliek. And sure Church was a team captain but he's not an exceptional talent. I was hoping Heath would get more snaps anyway. And we can always add someone like Peppers in the draft if we feel he's the best on the board.

All in all, we didn't lose anyone special. Our secondary will be light if we lose all of our free agents, but none of them are special anyway. Claiborne has All Pro talent but also can't be depended on to stay healthy.

We needed top-end talent on our defense. Nobody we lost was special. But there probably won't be any amazing talents available in the draft or free agency anyway.

i ll wait to see who is replaced with who. Its easy to say "they are all jags and can be replaced" thats true, they can also be replaced with new jags. This wont help us. We still need the qb hitting help. We needed a ball hawking FS, but im seeing that ship sail already. So now, if we are going to play cheap skates, again, we are wasting yet another season instead of making progress. Is saying 20 bucks worth it?

Free agency = over-paying. That's just how it works.

I generally agree with you, but do worry about replacing 3 or 4 of the key guys.

I want to keep Wilcox and Carr on defense. I am fine losing the rest.

It's an edgy time for all of us.So far I'm OK with whats happened but losing a 7 or so contributors might be hard to fill.
Coming together in training camp is the hope. We've watched Marinelli do some good coaching with less.

It is really hilarious how people are freaking out. These guys aren't difference makers. Keeping them we would still need to make some key free agent signings and draft really well.

Terrell McClain - we basically got one year out of him on a three year deal. He was excellent the first half of the season but then tailed off. He would have been fine as a $2-3m a year guy, but as soon as the purchase price went into the $4-5m a year range he was not worth it.

Jack Crawford - again, a cheap body for the last couple years - picked up some garbage sacks but outside of that was just a guy. He is getting 3.5m a year. Just not worth it.

Barry Church - I like Church, but he is a limited player that is a good in the box strong safety but is below average in coverage. He does get some points as a leader, but outside of that, does anyone really think it would have been a good move to pay him 6m a year? That is what the old Cowboys would have done....ala Flozell Adams.

Ron Leary - 8+ million a year. No thanks. He is the 4th best OL we have and the top 3 are all getting paid or will be. We have a guy that is cheap that can be moved right into the spot in Collins. You simply can't pay 4 OL among the highest at their position.

Claiborne has basically been a bust and can't stay healthy. It's not a huge loss. If he can be signed reasonably then I would be ok with it. If he is going to get $7-9m a year somewhere....let someone else pay that.

Exactly. As long as we upgrade I'm good with it. But if you replace them with other teams JAG's then I thjnk you take a step backwards. Time learning system and continuity, is not good if the talent is not any better.

Not happy. This week makes me uncomfortable every offseason. I just know now that it's going to happen and I gird myself for not freaking out. I do hate to lose Leary and Church. I'm going to hate to lose Terrence and Carr/Mo, too. Though I know all those guys are replaceable.

I do want to make sure we sign one of our CBs, though. Or get somebody equivalent right away. Do not want to go into the draft with Scandrick, Brown, and Whatshisface as the starters.
